It is a great feeling to know that there are people that appreciate music like this. From a bass player Thank you for hearing. And sharing the things that music the medium conveys.
Stuart Zender is an amazing bassist, no doubt! But he was in the company of some of the most amazing musicians living at the time who were all in their twenties. Please give love to the unbelieveable Toby Smith(R.I.P.) on keyboards, lyrical genius Jay Kay, the super funky Derrick McKenzie on drums and that killer horn section. Jamiroquai was one of the best live groups in the world performing in the 90's!
This firmation is like the USA nba all star team. Jordan era. There isn't a single flaw in this band. Every single body is tearing the shit out of their instruments and Jay (his voice). Just perfect dude.
Most great bassplayers start playing good, mature basslines in their late twenties, at best. Zender started playing bass at 16 when he worked as a circus artist(!), played in a punkband(!) for 2 yrs, joined Jamiroquai and from the start played genious, funky basslines on a level far above most players before and after him. A true bass prodigy.
Love Zender's use of space.. doesn't fill up the holes with grace notes but does add them tastefully.. bloody overplaying bass players don't get the negative space concept
He had a good groove for sure. One of the better British bass players, IMO. He borrowed heavily from American greats like Bootsy, Jamerson, Graham, Miller, Jaco, etc., but made it his own at times as well. Return of the Space Cowboy is my favorite Zender album.
not really, jamiroquai is fine now with paul turner, they have their own eras, stu would be more suitable with the old funky hobo-style jamiroquai, but paul will suit better with nowadays jamiroquai
Agree. While I like this era the best and nobody can top Zender, I think Paul Turner is the 2nd best bassist they've had over the years. That dude is a beast, too.
Seriously, Mike Smith, the saxophonist, was/is obviously influenced by John Coltrane. Gotta love how the ending solo sounds like a straight tribute to the legend. Anyway, this has got to be one of Jamiroquai's best performances ever. I am watching this again after years, and I'm immediately pulled back into their groove.
Stuart's timing and fleetness of funk just grew and grew. Listen to this in '97 at Phoenix. He's even more completely, completely on it. Come back and hear here how he's just A TAD behind on some licks. He just got better.
@@sarascarpati887yes. From What i understand. He was 17 when he joined the band. And 18 when they recorded. And 19 on a world tour…. As the most prominent bass player in the industry. It’s incredible.
Because the whole band line up has completely changed. Stuart Zender co-wrote many of the tracks on the first 4 albums as did Toby smith (who sadly passed away). They did away with the horn section, Sola the percussionist and Wallace the Didge player. I think Derrick is still on drums. This is when Jamiroquai were at their best imo.
Recently saw JK on his motorbike. My mrs and i were driving into brighton for the weekend and i saw him heading out. Didn't quite catch what bike it was but he had a feather in his open face helmet and shades on. Always loved jamiroquai since acid jazz days so it was a great way to kick off the weekend. Great memory.

You guys always celebrate Stu Zender, and you're right to do so. But you always forget the big influence Toby Smith gave to the band back then, in fact the whole band, Simon Katz, Derrick McKenzie...
god, he sings well in Lives. His performance is just.. incredible.. i knew him but never really listend him.. only now i see he is a great singer!.. and i was searching This track from long time ago.. thx satanpolenc

Dude, ive been trying to learn his style for a few years now, maybe one day ill understand where he comes from musically. No one holds a candle to his style, not even fyffe or turner as badass as they are, though fyffe was kind of closeish but not really.
Everyone in the band was under 25 at the time, amazing

Jaqueline Moreira ye this guy is.... wonderfull
+Jaqueline Moreira His groove is soo tight !
kid could sure play.... still can, no doubt.. just wish he would!
If JK had actually paid him what he was worth he would probably still be in the band ;-)
he's a god
It's rare you ever get to witness such a natural bassist such as stuart zender. The man had the groove. Nobody could take it from him.
I just learnt this bass line and then Zender plays it here completely differently to the album version... so smooth
Stuart is as smooth as hot butter!
The guitarist also deserves some love played tight af funky ah and right in the pocket great guitar tone
RIP original keyboardist and songwriter Toby Smith....epic song, huge loss :((
Amazing producer..i think he and Stu Z had a lot to do with jamiroquai sound..
There is no bass player like stu, Jamiroquai was never the same without him.
Such a groove, such a creative bass player.
it doesnt seem to be stu
@@levanidusIt's DEFINITELY Stu.

From 1993 to 2003 this band one of the best on planet hands down. M
The band lost its edge when Stuart lefted. What a talent.
I agree.
An amazing bunch of the coolest cats! The very best version of Jamiroquai!

amen bro
it's what i love about him and Esperanza Spalding.. the art of leaving stuff out.
So true, and I love his passing notes too.. not what a lot of players would choose.. makes him very interesting to listen to

yeah I do love it when people keep it in the pocket

Really hope Jay Kay could make up with him and bring him back! without Stu jamiroquai is just a normal band

Qué barbaridad, cómo toca Stuart Zender!!!
Give me back the Jamiroquai like this!!!!
I love this more than I can breathe, it reminds my little cat right now, I used to singing this song 😍😻💃💗🎶🙀😅😿😪
I miss REAL organic music so badly ..Jay Kay what a gen you are !
Wonderful band - absolutely brilliant bass player.
What a driving bass line! Stuart Zender 👍
Mr Zender you are just innnnncredible on this song 'live" brilliant
His voice is stellar an his groove is universali.
Best version ever that zender groov3 is 🔥
this version is waayyy better than the album version
jaykay is always better live. it's a rare thing these days
I agree. Oh man, it's really time Jamiroquai making a new album.
No fucking way, it lacks the magic of the string section.
It's all about Stu and that bass.
play a bassline like that is just ORGASTIC *--*!!
Jamiroquai for the fucking win!
There will never be another Jamaroquoi. I love the atmosphere his music creates and remember the day I finally owned his album.
Impeccable voice!!
This is the first Jamiroquai bass line i learnt back in 98. Thanks to a good friend of mine Dave Troke.
Back when the line up for this band was at its best.
100%!
Jay i can't live without your music 🎶 there i said it!❤️
Stuuuart Zenderr!! Geniooo!!
Jamiroquai forever. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
insane songggggg one of the grooviest bands in history and they were just under 25 years old 🤯
Been some great musicians in this band over the years but only one legend.
Jamiroquai without Stuart and Toby aren’t Jamiroquai...
This, Corner of the Earth, and Space Cowboy are flippin’ awesome man. Earth Wind and Fire would be proud.
Stu was just 18 or 19 years old in this gig and yet have so much feel and just too tight. That Bassline is untouchable.
Now I close my eyes and dream of Peace and Jamiroquai
wow! these musicians are incredible also the bass player & drummer really lock in their stuff!
Why can't Jay Kay go back to writing jams like this. This is why I listen to Jamiroquai to this day. Music of my soul
