- "The Maid" Director: Ezra Stone. Writers: Hugh Wedlock, Howard Snyder, Jesse Goldstein, Phil Sharp. The episode opens with Joan and two friends, played by Sondra Gould (Gladys Kravitz #2 on "Bewitched") and Sheila Bromley having lunch at a Chasen's-like restaurant named Phebe Warren's (anyone care to shed some light on the name?). The friends are bragging about how they couldn't live without their respective maid/cook. Joan finds Tillie (Virginia Rose), a star-struck girl who fills the bill very well. In order to keep her she and Brad convince Tillie that they are friends with a bunch of A-Listers. This spawns some fun impressions of Ronald Coleman and Clark Gable by Jim Backus, and a bouncy Bette Davis from Joan. Tillie's biggest heartthrob is Rodney Parker (Phil Van Zandt-he played Dr. Carlos Salazar in the IMJ "Jealousy" episode and also the evil Dr. Jeckyl in the Three Stooges 3D short "Spooks" and many other TV and film projects.). Brad and he turn out to be Frat Brothers and Brad asks him to come to dinner. Rodney comes up with an alternate plan, which affords Joan the opportunity to flaunt her physical expertise and show just how far she'll go for a laugh!

What a different life in the 50's. Glad I was there growing up.
Homemade pot roast and hand made pie...yum...
Back in the days when many folks had a live in maid...
I Love old Shows 💖
I have seen a few of Joan's comedy movies. she is hysterical, imagine her and Lucy and Eve Arden together, what a laugh.
Joan Davis...the queen of comedy
we got our first black n white large screen, blonde cabinet with doors tv in march '52....this is one of the first evening tv series i remember watching....Sat morns Sky King, etc were totally the kids menu. Thanks for posting and the wacky memories of this series. LOL
Joan is so much better than Lucy. I binge-watch Joanie & never get tired of her hilarity!
There's Sandra Gould. She was a scream in the Brady Bunch episode with Rachel the goat. I believe she appeared in the very first I Married Joan episode. Others may love Lucy, but I am wild about Joannie.
I have 54 episodes on dvd of I married joan.i wish the whole series was on dvd.i love the theme song.the show is so homey and relaxed.
Joan Davis was completely crazy. In the funniest ways. I love this show and the movies she was in. She knew how to make great comedy.
I think her simple facial expressions made any schene funny
I always loved this show. Joan Davis was very talented. I didn't know until years later that the woman who played Joan's sister in this series was actually Joan's daughter in real life. Also interesting that this show didn't use an orchestra, just accapella singing.
THIS SHOW IS SO FUNNY!!!! 😃😀😜
Loved it!!!
LOVE this show!!!
Me too! What a joy!!!❤❤
Joan Davis....the tops....like Gracie Allen! Bebe Daniels
Loved Joan, & Lucy,....Doug West, is a friend of mine,,his mother also had a comedy show back then,, Eve Arden.
Another great lady of comedy, Miss Arden!
Eve Arden was extraordinary! She was one of a kind!
Lucy and Eve were also great friends. Has Doug ever talked about his mother's connection with Lucy?
😧😧😧Its mr. Howl!!!! Thanks for posting!
SO FUNNNY!
Great funny stuff!
at 1:13 the women in the middle is SANDRA GOULD best known as the 2nd MRS. KRAVITZ from BEWITCHED!!

25:42- "....was brought to you by GENERAL ELECTRIC!
Remember- 'You can put your confidence in GENERAL ELECTRIC'!"
Love this
IT'S MRS. KRAVITZ!!!
Right......Lenny Kravitz's mother.
I didn't know " I Married Joan existed until this year thanks to UTUBE . I remember her in the movie " Hold That Ghost " co staring w/ Abbott & Costello. She was a GREAT actor & hilarious comedian !!!!!!! 😜 I don't know why she wasn't as famous as Gracie Allen, & Lucille Ball ? What happened ? She had it all !!!
She died too young perhaps in 1961-62. And the show stopped to run because she was the producer of the series. Like Lucy her show didn't run for longer times, it cut short for the above mentioned reason. However it's really sad as she had great physical comedy style like Lucy, facial expressions like Vivian, energy like Carol and great comic timings like Ann Sothern. I don't know about Gracy Allen and Eve Arden as I did not watch their shows.
Yes she died when she was middle age.her daughter and two grandsons died in a fire in 1963 so they could not carry on her legacy.sad.joan Davis deserves better.
I am so grateful for UTUBE so that I can she her shows … She was fantastic ♥️
Is that Mrs. Kravitz from Bewitched? That voice gives her away.
im1who84u ...Yes, that's the second Mrs. Agnes Kravitz, Sandra Gould.
*Gladys Kravitz
I Love Lucy....But I love Joan too.
So do we! Thanks for watching.

I wish I could sing with them..
Wasn't Joan strong and physically active.
yes he was.
@@sharksport01 She
Abners wife was a beauty at one time lol
Didn't the maid play a Hillbilly girl in "My little Margie the Hillbillie"?
Was'nt this a Lucy plotline in 1955?
Yes
I believe this show came before Lucy
@@eleanorfuflia687 I Love Lucy came before I married Joan.
There was an episode where |Lucy hired a maid but the plot was completely different.
Rodney Parker was played by actor Phil Van Zandt, who later committed suicide because of gambling debts and a failing movie career.
MsMUSIQMAKER I
Somewhat better than Lucy! Less screaming, less grimaces and just more credible...the absolute better comedienne!!!! Of course Lucy is great..still....
123pailin Thanks. Please keep watching!
Maybe for your tastes. But, clearly, the public disagrees. As much as I love older classic television, a show like this is just too sluggish and sedate for most modern viewers. A quaint show but nothing like Lucy. And honestly, the writing and acting is somewhat stiff and I'd argue LESS credible than Lucy.
@@julianregis8608 Sluggish and sedate?
They stole quite a lot from Lucy.
The other way around...
I married joan did not ripoff from I love lucy.lucille ball admitted she borrowed from baby snooks.many episodes of I love Lucy were retooled watered down reworks and remakes of balls radio show my favorite husband.
Who the fuck is rodney parker???
take off I don't like
Wow Brad left the office early and gave his secretary the afternoon off, awwwwwwe the good old days when a man can have an affair with his secretary and his wife is none the wiser:-)
She talks with her mouth full and warsh's her clothes.
