The beautiful setting of Lenzerheide in the Swiss Alps hosted the fifth round of the Mercedes-Benz UCI Mountain Bike Cross-Country World Cup. Italy’s Luca Braidot managed to hold off South African Alan Hatherly in a sprint finish to take his first World Cup win. A sprint finish is exciting enough though this doesn’t quite tell the story of the dramatic sixth and final lap that had seen Braidot, Hatherly, Mathias Flückiger and Nino Schurter racing as a lead group on that lap.
The group's lead was exchanged several times between Braidot, Flückiger and Schurter as the lap progressed, and it seemed that Flückiger and Schurter had broken away from the other two and would fight it out for the win. However, unseen by the TV cameras covering the event, Flückiger and Schurter had a coming together. When the group came back into view of the cameras, Braidot and Hatherly were ahead of Flückiger and Schurter.
There were chaotic scenes in the finish area at the end of the race. Braidot was overcome with the emotion of his win, as was Schurter, who had come in fourth. Schurter was visibly upset at how the race had ended. Everyone wanted to know what happened between Flückiger and Schurter and tried to make sense of what had just gone on in the last few minutes of the race.

Can't believe that at the year of 2022 they're not able to have cameras around every part of a track...
As far as I heard the camera shots were not from Red Bull but from a swiss production. Still it's strange that we didn't get any further information what happened in the trees.
@@tinoschneider6350 Not sure but it was something fishy 🐟
Its only going to get worse next year
As per reporter, the two clash handlebars and both crashed. I think mathias was the one who initiate it that is why they both crash and Nino was so angry to mathias as seen in the video. It was suppose to be mathias vs nino last sprint 💔
wow congrats Santa Cruz team
MTB such a wonderful sport, Nino is a living legend!
Grande Luca! Hai fatto onore all'Italia!
Felicitaciones a Braidot y Hatherly.
First time I saw Nino showing intense anger.
Nino is and will retire as a Legend. Math may win some world cups but will always be remembered as a bitter swiss runner-up.
Wish there was footage of this little dust up
Nice Replay .. but why this silly "background music" just disturbing
Being so close to being able to break the record in his home race, I could understand why he'd be a bit pissed. Really the only last thing to achieve for him in the sport at this point.
Was hoping for the moment no one seen ;) Thanks anyway!
After all the bad words and reaction from Flückiger last year, where Nino pass him in a tight space without touching him, to be crown World Champion. This just happens in this race. What a "coincidence". I hope that there is some kind of footage so that clarification and maybe justice can be made. Sometimes people need to learn the hard way. But my thoughts is that there will be no more true champions like Absolom and Nino if this kind of stuff happens without consequences. Ultimately who is going to loose is the sport with fans moving away in disappointment for no clarification on this situations. Just my thoughts...
Way to go buddy!
Can anyone tell me what Nino said to Flukiger after the finish line? I could not understand
He said: ,, youre crazy for real‘‘ and then flückigers coach said he should chill
@@Eine_Banane_ist_gelb Thanks man! 🤝
looked pissed.....they cut the camera right when he was about to explode
You see the disappointments from nino. Somethings went wrong in the tress.
Nice video red bull great job really nice content.
can anyone tell what did nino said to flueck in 8:42 or just some ear overheard it thanks
great
Buongiorno leggenda!
Y la parte donde supuestamente Fluckiger tira a Nino?
Win by default!
That's racing. Great work by Luca to be in the mix at the end. If anybody thinks he doesn't deserve it, then they need to think about how much work he put in over years to be there. Reminds me of Steve Bradbury (Aussie short track speed skater at Winter Olympics).
Somos muy afortunados de tener a Nino. Es un crack pero soy yo el único que piensa que después de este incidente con Fluky, ! Casualmente! ! Le metieron la sanción que a la postre a sido nula. No se da que pensar.
tendrás tu revancha NINO
I predicted that would happen after Matthias got pipped twice before. Everything was teed up for fireworks
As Mathias said, its racing. No one would like that to happen. Mathias is strong Just like Nino. They should settle the fight at Andora.
🇧🇷🇧🇷👍🏻
Brasil Avancini!🚵💥
Nino, only Nino CHAMPION XCO....
What happen nino?
Crashed with Fluckiger, their bars collided which caused them to fall. Total waste for a Swiss 1-2
@@martsmarts thx for your informations sir 🙂🙏
Not the first time Mathias did something like this. He is bitter and can't beat the old, so why not just take him out.
THAT'S RACING!!!! Get over it!! My goodness me, these riders are there to win a bike race. If it gets to agressive then take up golfing.
Fluck should not be allowed to join any WC race in the future. No piece of any sportsmanship in his heart. He don't want his countryman to win on their Homeland.
Have you seen them crash, do you know it was him, did he do something on purpose? This is racing, if someone overtakes you and you can't handle it and crash, it's racing
