where did you say not to travel to again?
🕷️ 😱
Thank you so much for actually doing the research to understand the transmission, rather than telling people it’s a CVT like most reviews I’ve seen. You’re a true enthusiast!!
is there still a CVT or no?
@@IsaacPoopsAlot Although Honda calls it ECVT, it doesn't have the belt that traditional CVT has, so nothing related to the CVT except the name.
@@IsaacPoopsAlot No CVT, the electric motor is mechanically geared to the final drive gear and differential. The engine is geared to the generator and can operate and charge the battery independent of the drive wheels. It can also drive the wheels using a clutch, but independent of the main electric motor and at a fixed gear ratio for higher speeds.
Agreed, CVTs are meh but eCVTs are awesome technologically and generally very reliable
@@kencai6803 eCVTs don't have a belt either.
Have 200 miles on my 2023 Sport Touring….everything I hoped. Very comfortable, handles great, fun to drive. Paid MSRP. Waited a month for delivery. Happy new Honda owner👍
How you like it now that it has been 5 months?
Are your MPG low like a lot of people online are claiming??
I absolutely love these new Honda interiors! Very clean design with plenty of buttons, which I really appreciate!
I fucking agree
i can't agree more, buttons, knobs are better than the silly screen.

This CR-V reminds me of the station wagons I saw as a kid. Roomy, practical, and rock solid.
This is one of the best designed crossovers ive ever seen.
The first crossover that I wouldnt mind owning
LMFAO
What about the bronco sport?
@@masonwilliams1810 it’s ugly af
@@foxisglee you gotta look at it for what it is. It’s a crossover and there’s not a single crossover that looks better IMO.
The bronco sports are all being recalled lol they are exploding 🤣
Looks like Honda has hit 👊 it out of the park with this CR-V redesign. Nice looking vehicle! Good 👍 review! Greetings from Dallas, TX! 👏
Like the way you clean your shoes 👞 off before you enter the vehicle each time. Tells the type of guy you are. Clean.
Ahhh, I'd been waiting for your review of the Sport Touring Hybrid!! We're looking at this to replace our 2018 CR-V EX. As always, you discuss all the things I wanna know about. Thank you!
This version of the Honda hybrid drivetrain is really cool, and I like whatever trickery they're doing here to make it seem like it's upshifting near redline - something a lot of CVTs do now, but it usually sounds fake and annoying. From what I understand, it works as a series hybrid (ICE used only as a generator) 90% of the time, but when you step on it there's a clutch and gear set that allows the engine to drive both the generator and output shaft simultaneously, more like a Toyota or Ford hybrid. Totally seamless in operation, unlike the old IMA hybrids. AFAIK Honda began using this system with the original Accord Plug-In (a very rare car, too ahead of its time) and I agree, a bigger battery and plug would be a nice upgrade on the CR-V too.
Great review, Tedward! Can't wait for the 2024 Prologue.
I have a 2021 CRV Hybrid and I am very happy with it, I am surprised that they have taken some of the features that I and probably others like out of the 2023 version. For one, the flat cargo area, and secondly the rear seat release in the trunk, and lastly no fog lights. I do like the updated screen, the traditional shift handle and the hill descent feature, although putting my current CRV in sport mode when descending does help keep the speed fairly well controlled. All in all the new version is nice, but I'll hold off on upgrading for a few more years.
I do think they leave room for updates in the new lifecycle especially for things like fog lights
Do you have a spare tire in your model?
No, it didn't come with one on the 2021 CRV Hybrid, I thought about purchasing a doughnut version you can buy online but until I do a long trip as in cross-country I will hold off. To be honest for local or small trips I am not that concerned, I have been driving for 60 years and have had a flat tyre maybe twice in that time, so fingers crossed.
@@mikebowden4244 Keep in mind the technology will let you know when your tires need help.:
TEdward - Hands down the BEST CR-V Hybrid review on RUclips. 👏
You explained the non-CVT e-hybrid system like no one has yet to do👍. In fact, the entire narrative of your review was excellent. Its earned my subscribing to you channel.
By the way, what was the setting you used to activate the “Re-Gen Feature”?
Thank you for honest what really matters for average car driver. Some reviews go on forever n who really cares about 0-60.
saw this on the road the other day, fell in love with the look of it😍
This is precisely why I love Tesla. To get certain features in all of the other brands you gotta nickel and dime between trim levels (like here you don't get rear USB charging ports on lower trims), while Tesla has the same interior and features for ANY version. The only difference is do you want extended range, AWD or performance. It just MAKES SENSE!
Daily Tedward !!! WOW
It's starting to grow on me, definitely gotta do the sports touring
I must admit too, mostly I don't like CVTs but this CVT actually sounds realistic which I appreciate. Love the new looks of the CR-V! It's really nice!
No CVT! Direct drive.
@@TedwardDrives That is so interesting! It reminds me of it so that's why I said it! Haha
You heard the engine noise, not the transmission...

@@michaels3003 how does this new ecvt work
Tedward, I'm discovering your channel, it's a pleasure to watch your reviews !
Just subscribed 😁
MSRP is just below 40,000. Dealers, at this point, have a very limited supply coming in (Nov.), so prices I've found are a bit higher for now. I was quoted, a drive out the door price of 45,000+.
I live in jersey. The Honda dealers here sell at MSRP. Which is still a huge markup but it’s not like what you’re talking.
I love this. Idk about other parts of the US, but the dealership that I work at, the hybrid crvs have their own engine and tranny made In Japan, whereas non hybrid trims’ engines and tranny are made in US or Mexico. Thats another plus for the hybrid version!
Somehow the new dashboard interior reminds me of a 1970's muscle car. I love it!
Its inspired by the old ‘70s ‘80s hondas
I absolutely love all of Hondas vehicles plus they make the best suvs 🤷🏾♂️ to me and I also love Subarus 😍😍😍😍
I'm surprised it still doesn't have cooled seats!
Great video as always sir. A buddy of mine has one coming in another month or so. The stoke for him is real - had to come right out to your channel to see what you said about it :)
Thanks for explaining all the hybrid modes. Hope to get one these wheels soon👌
the best hybrid crv in the SUV class, in this area, friends, the atmosphere is good
The EX and EX-L models of the CR-V have rear USB c ports as an option!
the crv looks like a massive, refined improvement on its predecessor
even with the higher prices all round it should be a good sell
1.5 with the price , are you stupid or what
@@gangkilo9859 its larger and the interior is dramatically better. The 1.5 is not that big of an issue here. The best option to get is the hybrid, which Honda wants most of CRV sales to be for this generation, or at least a significant percentage.
Holy shit that looks great! at that price I'm buying!
man this crv is next level. much improved from previous generation.
Just came from the dealer, they had a "Market Adjustment" price of +5995.00, bringing the total sticker to $46,000 here in SoCal. Seriously WTF
New subscriber here after watching the best review on the Sport Touring that I've seen anywhere. Looking to trade our 8 year old Forester Touring for one of these or a '23 Rav 4 Limited Hybrid sometime after the first of the year. Just waiting to see if this economy will turn around before peeling out $40K. 2022 has been a tough year on finances...
I have a 2023 Sport Touring secured with a February build date!! I cannot wait!
Definitely prefer analog displays over Digital...analog "makes a face" and provides more information to the operator...said differently, we humans can process more information from an analog display than digital...regardless, enjoyed the excellent review.
I love that the 4 Cylinder is actually quite audible while full throttle.
Are there any new SUVs in America that come with a manual gearbox by any chance?
If yes, I'd love a review of one.
Don’t think so in 2022. The last CUV Honda offered with a manual was the last-gen. HR-V, but they discontinued the manual after just one year cause nobody bought it. I don’t think there’s a market for a manual-equipped CUV anymore.
(Well, other than the Subaru Crosstrek.)
Mazdas maybe? Literally every Mazda crossover in Europe also comes with a manual (although most of them can't equip AWD if you choose a stick, AFAIK). Might be similar in the US?
The Mazda CX-5 came with a stick up until 2019-2020 IIRC. Otherwise, nope. CVTs and slushboxes all the way down, bar the occasional DCT for your fancier models.
No. The manual SUV market does not exist. If you absolutely HAVE to have a stick, you're going to have to stick to wagons if you want utility.
The only new CUV with manual is the Crosstrek, but we'll see after the 2024 crosstrek redesign comes
the hybrid crv is just simulating gears like the civic hybrid, feels like a dct
For your information - Honda does not supply those cars at all in most of the state in US. You will come to the dealer and they will tell you to wait one year or so to get hybrid version. Honda is not interested to distribute hybrid cars, they want to sell non-hybrids mostly in most of the state I have been.
Amazing presentation ❤❤
Can you tell me what color that is? Canyon river blue metallic maybe?
Correction: Rear seat USB ports can be installed by the dealer as an option.
I liked even the older gen...my only concern the power was so so...good epty, but loaded with 4 people or some load in trunk, it gave me worries about power on highways. Nice car though, very comfy and enjoyable.
LMAO I'm dying laughing at that tarantula at the end, it'd be hilarious if while you were looking at that one another one jumped in the car....
Was about an hour drive to the hotel and I kept freaking out thinking they must have made it into the car 😆
@@TedwardDrives thats the southwest for you, I lived in Arizona for a few years and I found probably 15 scorpions in my house in the time I lived there
NOPE
@@TedwardDrives LMFAO
I don't think they can jump very high or maybe not at all.
Great looking car. You will never find this car for under $40k.
What makes you say that?
@@familydad3241 they have them, a few anyway, and we want them. You’re not getting this car for anywhere near MSRP.
@@CageyLeigh who's they, dealerships? You must not know placing special orders must be for MSRP.
after i get my first car i think im going to buy a suv to go along with it
Thanks for a nice review. That’s impressive. As I know it’s 6th generation of CR-V. No way to miss a chance to buy this Hybrid.
I’m driving Honda Legend. In my opinion it’s top comfort from Honda you can get.
Now if dealers would just get them in so we can buy them!!!!
Exhaust tips at the front. 😁
I love my CR-V Sport Hybrid ❤️🔥
The old hybrid engine was port injected amd based on the R20. Given this has GDI, this must be a different engine than 2022 CRV hybrid. Is this sill based off the R20 or is it K20-based now?
a CRV can hit corners n carry speed ,cars are handlin better ever year WOW😂🤣
I have an old Altima and looking into getting a CR-V hybrid sport touring mainly to get more space, features, and better gas mileage. I test drove the ‘23 RDX and was truly impressed because it didn’t even feel like I was driving an SUV. I guess that’s due to Acura’s SH-AWD system. However, I was disappointed when I learned how horrible the gas mileage is not only on the RDX but also the MDX 😢. Does the CR-V handle like a car especially when going around steep corners or is there some body roll?
I actually prefer the little chode shifters like on the VW GTI, or a puck like on the Fords. No reason for a large lever if youre not using it non stop like a manual
I am not understanding why they eliminated the remote garage door opener. Seems a little lame. I do love this CRV though.
Honda guy here. Things I noticed on Honda cars are fitment of panels are a level down from VW (for example) for the same category of the car. This should be improved without any excuses. Highway noise which is related to acoustic insulation of cabin. Updates of some components is not with trend now. This car particularly has standard stick shifter, but more and more cars are switching to buttons shifters. Button shifter gives you clean look of central console. Partially analog driver info system. Classic look of that system as well. But, don’t get me wrong, all these marks are fixable by Honda. Their doctrine is get a quality of engine and components, and keep the price of the cars within competitors. Other manufactures balance that in fav of cosmetic looks, more modern amenities, but likely more glitches with engine and components.
Kinda disagree. Some of the new vws have some rough fitment. Id4 felt really cheap, for example. Also honda had push button transmissions since last generation, in fact they were one of the first carmakers to put push button shifters in recently
Does this guy work for Honda? Lol nice pov
Great review
Sounded like a lot of engine noise. No sound deadening on the underside of the hood. Probably just bare carpet with no sound deadening either. Remember when cars had sound deadening under the carpet. Guess this is how they cut out weight.
Cool video…. Go Honda Hybrid go…
Thank you for sharing i just subscribed your channel ❤ from Australia

It’s tarantula mating season in the hot dry hills inland California. Every year, mid October horny giant spiders come out of their lonely homes in the daytime looking for love. I’ve been on a few back country hikes spider-watching hikes to see them, they might be scary looking but they eat pests and bugs and are harmless to us, they’re good friends.
According to my math though, it would take at least 5 years at today’s crazy high gas prices for the hybrid to break even with the gas model. It’s not really financially worth it tbh. But it does come with other extras I guess.
It is a little bit less slow than the other models. Unless you live in CA (where people make a lot of money), the gas prices are not "crazy." The previous prices were somewhat too low, so the price difference is exaggerated.
Is the hrv now supposed to replace the crv? The starting msrp for the crv is now 31k which is a bit more than its usual competitors like the cx5, rav4 and rougue
Its basically the size of a crv from the mid 2000s
CRV type R slap a turbski in there and make a performance hybrid 😂
12:17 Intresting...so what the different between this engine and nissan kick engine?
Oh come now, that far away tarantula wasn’t the most horrifying thing you’ve ever seen in your life. Now, if his big brother was climbing in through the open driver’s window, that might have been the most horrifying thing you’d ever seen in your life.
They are not aggressive; just big.
@@michaels3003 Yes, but it would still be a startling and possibly horrifying experience.
@@adamesd3699 , a snake would be much more horrifying. Especially one climbing on the other side of the vehicle 🙂.
So i was looking into this CRV but the sport touring MSRp is 40,100 and after all accesories and blah blah its 46-49 for that sport touring. I will go with the Rav4 hybrid
That engine noise winding up is not really pleasant at all... was it all fake?
this car looks like a rav4 prime on steroids😂
Why dont manufactures put a battery's recharge module on rear axle which run independently from the engine? If doing that, the battery is always in recharging status.
That would put an enormous amount of drag on the engine. It would be incredibly inefficient
When you need to slow down, like when you came around a turn, you said you used some regen. I assume it was so you didn’t have to actually press the brake pedal. What if you just want to drive it normally? Just put your foot on the break to slow down a bit? I’m test driving one today and that regen paddle stuff seems just too confusing.
The car will regen on the brakes as well. Don’t worry
From some angles it remindes me of a VW tiguan
A great car from america! I wonder how many features would be removed when it hits overseas 🍚🙈🙉🙊
Brother in law just got a 2023 Honda CR-V. It’s nice but I don’t but I prefer my 2018 Honda CR-V.
How are the seats as far as comfort? My 2017 seats are really uncomfortable on long trips
How about compression of a cabin noise level to other cars in this segment?
Subaru Forester is much quieter. Test drove a 2023 CRV last weekend and then a forester. CRV is pretty loud on the highway at 65+ mph . Under 35 MPH it was quiet though
What’s up with the shifts? Gears on a hybrid?
probably two reasons. one is because it makes the typical user more comfortable vs hearing it sit at redline. and two its an Atkinson cycle engine and they typically are most efficient in a narrow power band. it may be just capitalizing on that.
@@TedwardDrives right but from what I know most hybrids only have one gear so did Honda make a hybrid engine with gears or is it just acoustic sound effects?
@@liiontommy they reduce prm from engine.
Awesome !
Tom! What does ‘MVH’ mean or stand for?? Thanks ;)!
NVH is Noise Vibration Harshness
Lots of road noise though
Only on the Loud af road. Really wasn’t bad on normal roads
If I get the FWD, would it feel less controled and powerful?
Any suggestions for a spare tire solution?
La mejor 🙌 👍
204 hp vs. 219 hp for the Rav4 Hybrid. The Rav4 Prime has 302 hp!!
Yes but the prime is also a $40k car.
@@ValkenDnB So is this more or less.
@@tlr-nut7275 we don’t know. If it’s less than it’s not a fair comparison. If it’s the same then it’s a fair point. From my experience at a Toyota dealer, the rav4 prime are 60k-70k believe it or not because of mark up
I don't know if the 302 is a real number or a marketing term.
