Loved your Welsh mug, Kath! I am an American, of Welsh descent , living in Norway since 1981. We’ve done narrowboat vacations twice, and absolutely loved it!!! So I really enjoy watching your videos! I love locks!! (don’t like tunnels..) You guys are so amazing and resourceful and handy! You impress me all the time! Enjoyed the free firewood and free lunch! That would be me!
Hi both, fantastic video. Anna, gave my wife Karen the card today and she burst into tears, she loved it. She sends her thanks along with me. Keep up the great work
Love the serenity of the canal-side slipping by, just the rumble of the diesel underlining the quiet. The narrowboat slipping under the arch of a bridge going somewhere. At odd times there are boats tied up tight against a shore, the smoke drifting upward from the stack. It a leisurely pace allowing one to focus on the vegetation hugging the shore, hiding a creature or two. Then up ahead looms up the stone work of a lock and the heartbeat pick up.
Loved the idea of baking the potatoes in the stove, a few baked beans and some cheese, yum. Have to laugh at the fast foreword as you come back to the boat. Lol
We love the Llangollen canal. Your video brought back some happy memories. Love watching you as we no longer have our boat. Happy cruising to you both. xx
Lovely trip ladies. So wonderful to see the Llangollen as it should be travelled rather than the narrow boat park I saw in August 2016. Yes it was delightful but not a place for newbies or those with a gentle demeaned! Loved the aqueduct. Amazing engineering feat. Sort of Interesting would be the best person to help you with the locks Anna.
We are glad we picked off season to visit. We’ve heard plenty about how busy it gets and don’t think we’d enjoy it quite the same having to negotiate with lots of other boats!
Hi NB's what a beautiful day. The Llangollen canal is so pretty. Much prefer Autumn than busy summer. Hope you are keeping warm with the stormy weather we've had. Merry Christmas gang.. have a smashing Time...🐱🐈🎄🎅🏼🎁🐶🐾
That canal looks really nice. If you want to cook something fun on the stove take an apple, cut out the core, pour cinnamon and sugar in the core hole, wrap it in foil and cook on the stove for about 15 minutes. Remember when you remove the core you need to only go part way so the hole has a bottom to hold the cinnamon and sugar mix. I do campfire baked potatoes the way you did but normally don't cook them that long, it is a cook to your liking food so neither way is wrong.
Very nice indeed..... although it seemed the music was faster than the boat, still we love to share your adventures and so look forward to your postings. And a very nice "Tip of the old hat" to CC for the obligatory Heron Of The Day!
Morning :) Hi you two. I am watching your latest vlog at 6am - got all togged up to do a bike ride only to find I had a puncture! Came back inside and watched your latest video instead. Yesterday I did a 40 mile round trip along the Thames and then up the Grand Union to just past Bulls Bridge Junction. I love river/canal towpath rides. Perhaps I'll spot you one day. Keep on keeping on, I always look forward to your posts. Rob
Your film making and editing skills have come on really well. Really interesting camera angles and subject choices, makes for a really interesting watch. Keep up the excellent work :-)
Wonderful showcase of my FAV time of the year. Don't get much Autumn here in Central Florida, to my dismay. Those are what we call "camping potatoes!" YUM, especially with wedges of butter sliced in them surrounded by sliced onions and sprinkled with garlic powder. Just the smell of them gets the juices flowing...just sayin'!!! Enjoy and Happiest of Holidays to you both.
When I use to camp I would wrap up my whole meal [individually] meat veggies potatoes, throw them in the coals, flip every 15 min. Once after smelling it for 3 days these girls on the next site came over to see what I was doing, they were amazed. Corn on the cob is good too !
That was just wonderful . You make such entertaining vlogs and they’re so well filmed and edited. You’re both so funny and lovely. The jacket potatoes looked yummy and what a fantastic idea to cook them on/in the fire! X
Hi Ladies. I'm so pleased to see you enjoying The Llangollen. I've cruised it many times and loved it. I'm retired in Florida now so doubt whether I'll be cruising it again in person. Your videos are bringing back so many fond memories.
That's how you cook potatoes over an open fire when you're camping. Cut up the potatoes in chunks, add butter, salt and pepper plus onions and peppers, and you have to best country potatoes ever. Nothing tastes better than potatoes cooked over an open fire.
Just having my breakfast watching your adventures great Vlog with some beautiful video footage along the way and blue sky's fantastic it might be cold but those potatoes are just what you need to warm you up after cruising along and they looked great. I like the crispy skin the best. Enjoy and catch you in the next one.
Good morning ladies. Yet again another wonderful vlog. You always seem so cheerful yet look like your freezing. You are always smiling. Have a good Christmas and new year.
More lift/swing bridges with the controls on the opposite side as the landing! A bit of a nightmare for us solo boaters... I'll have to make sure I've got some visitors on that stretch next year. :-)
The bypass flows are the fiercest on the system. The method if angling into them as you approach the lock and then syraightening up at the lasf minute is the only one we found when travelling upstream. It's caused by the waterfalls that heads to the reservoir alongside Huddleston locks that United utilities use for water supply to south Cheshire. The water is allowed to flow from the river dee at llangollen to hurlreston. No doubt you will have noticed the flow slowing you down at narrow bridgehlles and in the two tunnels as you head up towards llangollen. Keep videos coming. Enjoying them.
It’s coming down hill when your bow gets knocked off by the bywash before you are completely out of the lock I find more difficult. Perhaps bow thrusters are the answer.
Hey, an idea for a "let's see what kind of amusing reactions people have" video - in the middle of a full marina, get up around 05:45 in the morning and use a petrol powered leaf blower on your roof.
Have to agree about autumn - stunningly beautiful, but the leaves do become a wee bit irritating in the prop after a while! Another lovely vlog ladies, spuds look superb. 😊
The Llangollen looks lovely. It will be a welcome relief after cruising through masses of weeds and overgrowth on the South Oxford canal this year! Have a great Christmas.. will there we a youtubers' Christmas meal this year?
If I may offer a recipe on your potatoes. Dice them up into 12.5 cm squares, add tomatoes, green peppers, and whatever suits your fancy. Put some dollops of butter and add your favorite spices. Put the mixture in aluminum foil and put in your fire. Depending on how hot it is inside the stove, turn the packet every 5-10 minutes. You’ll have to try it a couple of times to get everything just right. If you make too much add some beaten eggs in the morning, it makes a very tasty breakfast. Love your channel.
Hi you two 💁💁 another wonderful vlog of your canal adventures in 🏴. I thought that your driver was a bank robber at first with her face covered up and you were making your getaway! Those run offs are a pain and yes it does look as if you could be drawn down them! Of course in the lock you must keep away from the fill otherwise you could sink. Were you ever in the Scouts because I used to do my spuds in the fire ash that way as you say foc. Does Ewart need a brush off on the roof as leaves are building up. I am watching you whilst counting monies raised at Asda in Gravesend yesterday by the Rotary Club on behalf of our Foodbank. Regards to you both 💁💁 and the cats 🐈🐈 have a drink 🍷🍷
Not sure how many days delay you are uploading but... Do be careful going over the 2nd aqueduct! As soo as you are off it it’s a hard left to Llangollen before the marina, then the canal gets epic. You will be thankful for doing it out of season
Since going under bridges, etc., make you nervous Anna Marie, know you aren't the only one. Here's a video that shows a large vessel going under the Vicksburg, Mississippi bridges with a cross current. It's a wild ride every time! ruclips.net/video/xTy-g-ZKp30/видео.html
Perfect way to do baked potatoes. You can do entire meals in foil like that. Do you have Pinterest? If not, I can sent you some recipes to try. Yummy. Stay warm. Save gas!
Looks like a very pleasant, quiet journey and those taties look fine! At those bridges, the mechanism appears to be on the opposite side to the tow path. How would a solo narrowboater negotiate them?
The solo boater has to pull up close to the bridge and climb off with a rope, open the bridge, get the boat through and then jump off again on the wrong side with a rope to close. It’s a crazy design, not sure why the mechanism is on the wrong side to the lock landing. It’s not unique to this section either!
Thinking free, do you ever pop "through the hedge" before setting out in the morning to see if there are any mushrooms in the fields? Over time you'd get to know the good places to look.
Well done girls, another lovely vid. Lift bridges.....pain in the.......more so when your single handed, but its all part of the fun. Just wondering, do you spray a little oil on the foil before you put the spuds in the fire or not? Lovely feeling when you get free heat for your food, then top it off with free fuel for the fire, win, win.....looking forward to the next vlog.
You should put the spuds in the fire 'without' the foil - gives them a WHOLE LOT better taste and crispy jackets (Why they're called 'Jacket-Potatos' ---- Yum-Yum ;-)
There really is no other way to deal with cross currents on lock entrances. Locks designed for large scale commercial operation on rivers get bashed all the time during high river conditions because of this.
I love your videos. They remind me of home.😊 How are you meant to operate the lift bridges if you drive your boat alone? There doesn't seem to be a mooring on the side of the canal you need to be on to operate the lift mechanisms. p.s. I live in Thailand.
You have to pull up on the other side- I think it is in one of our Llangollen vlogs where we meet a single handed lady and she does it. Some time after Beaten by the locks.
Good work Ladies, sensible cooking/eating. - Your PV panels should be much more productive if you can remove any leaves .. as any shaded section switches the whole panel off eh. Cheers from NZ.
Thanks for the tip. We generally try to keep them clear but at the moment we are lucky for 0.5amps so not really worth the effort. They aren’t high enough watts to keep us going in summer let alone in the grey days of winter.
Hi. What months are considered fall in your part of the world? We are planning a trip to the UK next year (2020) and want to hire a narrowboat in the fall for a week to 10 days. (Are the canals open for the most part?)
@@TheNarrowboatExperience, thanks for getting back to me. The temperature isn't an issue but the scenery, boat traffic (low), and the canals being open are most important. As well, we'd like to visit unique pubs within walking distance of moorages.
The winter maintenance program typically starts at the beginning of November and runs until March - during this time some sections of canal are closed. Canal and River Trust publish the stoppages on their website. Some hire boat companies only operate between March and end of October, and again over Christmas/New Year. Individual hire boat companies will be better able to advise as they will be more familiar with the traffic levels on the section you can travel from their hire base.

Hi Ladies been following you both for a while since you moved permanently on your Narrowboat.Just to confirm did you both used to work and travel from the boat to your jobs?So I pressume you are not in full time jobs now and use the Narrowboat videos etc as your income as by the video title it seems its really cheap to live on a Narrowboat almost free?Could you do a video vlog explaining how its possible to live on a Narrowboat without work and how to manage and survive without permanent work income.Love you both and your videos btw atb Mike
The comment about 'free' was the heat for the potatoes was already heating the boat- so we didn't use gas. Then we scavenged the wood for 'free' heating. We always keep our budgeting at a low rate. By no stretch of the imagination could we live off of RUclips! I paint and sell my artwork and Kath works online. We both work full-time hours in a very flexible way.
@@TheNarrowboatExperience Thank you for your reply.I wasnt inferring you both lived off the proceeds of RUclips, sorry if my comment suggested that and I apologise if I offended you.I think its great if people like yourselves can make an income like you say from selling Artwork etc and other ways without having to go to a 9 to 5 Five days a week type of employment. So all credit to you both and I think you both are a lovely couple who work well together in your relationship and always come across happy. atb for now and safe and happy boating/cruising Michael

hi girls have you been following the news about the awful incident at chester zoo as the they confirmed today that some frogs birds and insects perished as they couldn't get to them as they were next to where the fire started also they reckon it was an electrical fault not a member of staff smoking as some people were speculating that as a cause yesterday plus there were some very bad comments posted about it as one said a big BBQ at chester today which was well out of order and made me mad, the zoo was reopened today though and this morning they had already received over £30.000 in donations the British public putting their hands in their pockets once again to help all the poor animals what a kind and generous nation we are when it comes to something like this
As you showed in the current video, one must remember to watch the current on this current canal, entering and leaving locks. This may not be the time or place to ‘go with the flow’. I saw how narrow the locks are, as you had previously commented, and I also see why Munchkin and Alice are in their beds, which provide warmth and some protection from the shocks of bumping the walls.
Loved your Welsh mug, Kath! I am an American, of Welsh descent , living in Norway since

Annamarie I love your sweatshirt, are you allowed to say where you bought it 😍
The one with the swans? About three years ago at TK MAX.
How long have y'all been living on your boat?
Good work Ladies, sensible cooking/eating. - Your PV panels should be much more productive if you can remove any leaves .. as any shaded section switches the whole panel off eh. Cheers from NZ.
Thanks for the tip. We generally try to keep them clear but at the moment we are lucky for 0.5amps so not really worth the effort. They aren’t high enough watts to keep us going in summer let alone in the grey days of winter.
you can also cook on your engine
Mythbusters did a programme about cooking on a engine and exhaust.
Hi. What months are considered fall in your part of the world? We are planning a trip to the UK next year (2020) and want to hire a narrowboat in the fall for a week to 10 days. (Are the canals open for the most part?)
Maybe try to google the months and temperatures to see which one you like.
Oh Anna your not old enough to be forgetting things, dont start writing yourself notes, then forget the note(like i do)😂😂😂😂😂
I'm getting so forgetful lately and I'm 41, it does worry me lol
@@KellyC77 😁😁oh I was about the same age I started(58now)have you started walking in a room then standing there thinking?????? 😂😂😂Just laugh out loud I do, it comes to everyone, when I was younger my mam used to go through every name in the house and I used to laugh at her and say keep going mam you will get there in a minute😂😂now I'm doing the same
@@johnneal7832 Yes I always walk in rooms then stand there wondering what I went in for 🤔🤔🤣. Or I will think about something I want to Google get the page on and can't remember for the life of me what it was I needed to search for.. drives me crazy sometimes, we have had Alzheimer's in the family and it does worry me sometimes but I guess I shouldn't stress to much about it.

Do you find any chestnuts along the cut?
We’ve never looked!
Hi Ladies been following you both for a while since you moved permanently on your Narrowboat.Just to confirm did you both used to work and travel from the boat to your jobs?So I pressume you are not in full time jobs now and use the Narrowboat videos etc as your income as by the video title it seems its really cheap to live on a Narrowboat almost free?Could you do a video vlog explaining how its possible to live on a Narrowboat without work and how to manage and survive without permanent work income.Love you both and your videos btw
atb Mike
So all credit to you both and I think you both are a lovely couple who work well together in your relationship and always come across happy.
atb for now and safe and happy boating/cruising
Michael
Hi, I wasn't offended. I just wouldn't want to misrepresent out youtube income. It sometimes pays our diesel but it is very fickle. Thank you so much for your support and encouragement. x
>^..^< Hot Potatoes, Yummy Potatoes, Bacon Bits n Potatoes, Steamy Potatoes, LotsO Butter and Potatoes ect. Do you roll them at the half hour mark when in your fire? Cooking them on a specific species of wood can both add or detract from the flavor I hear.... Enjoy Ladies............
No. Just throw them in and then eat.
Try wrapping food in foil, pl;ace it on the engine exhaust manifold to cook.
But the exhaust is round....
:)
hi girls have you been following the news about the awful incident at chester zoo as the they confirmed today that some frogs birds and insects perished as they couldn't get to them as they were next to where the fire started also they reckon it was an electrical fault not a member of staff smoking as some people were speculating that as a cause yesterday plus there were some very bad comments posted about it as one said a big BBQ at chester today which was well out of order and made me mad, the zoo was reopened today though and this morning they had already received over £30.000 in donations the British public putting their hands in their pockets once again to help all the poor animals what a kind and generous nation we are when it comes to something like this
Over £100,000 has been raised according to the BBC article I just read. That's double what they hoped to raise.
Such a terrible event. Glad they have raised so much money.
What the fuck has that got to do with canals?
As you showed in the current video, one must remember to watch the current on this current canal, entering and leaving locks. This may not be the time or place to ‘go with the flow’. I saw how narrow the locks are, as you had previously commented, and I also see why Munchkin and Alice are in their beds, which provide warmth and some protection from the shocks of bumping the walls.
Luckily bumping has reduced as we have progressed!
excellent production!....cc will be jealous... lol. but not keen on male singer...
