The Joy Ranch of South Dakota - Best Kept Secret in the Midwest

The Joy Ranch of South Dakota is an amazing non profit 126 acre refuge in Florence, SD with core mission of using horses as instruments of healing since 1989, helping challenged individuals get a chance to meaningfully connect with horses. Joy Nelson and her staff are changing lives every day through the experiences they provide to those with disabilities and challenging life circumstances. The entire facility consisting of 16 beautifully themed hotel rooms, expansive meeting rooms for events, on site dining, 1880's themed Western Main Street, old country church and one room schoolhouse, riding trails, camp grounds, even a lake with boating and fishing, are all barrier free, no stairways, completely accessible for those with disabilities. The 1st Annual Joy Ranch Rendezvous event will be held on site on Saturday, August 19, 2023 with Machinery Pete and film crew there filming for special episode of Machinery Pete TV Show. The event kicks off a drive to raise funds to help The Joy Ranch expand - double in size - to help address the tremendous need of those with disabilities and challenging life circumstances. 13 food vendors will be there. The One Armed Bandit - well known from the national rodeo circuit will be there to perform his amazing stunts. Simulated gun fight on Main Street at High Noon. Old time Western activities. My daughter was a counselor there for several summers, its a fantastic place and an amazing get away. Very therapeutic just being there. Joy is one of Gods earth angels.
