Yes. This is my favourite track from the album he eventually produced with Dave Gilmour. Prefer it even to Octopus. Did Gilmour use the original track recorded with M Jones then?
+Poetic?Maybe. Gilmour had nothing to do with this. Fortunately Syd had already "mixed down" this track before Gilmour appeared - so he couldn't even make a mess of that (as he did with "Late Night")
Yeah. Malcolm Jones also had some criticism of Gilmour regarding Madcap . Said that he couldn't believe that he'd left Opel off the list of tracks for the album.Hard to believe Gilmour when he says he didn't know it existed until years later.
Poetic?Maybe. I would have to check. There is a desc on wiki that we could check the source of but I want to say yes this was the Jones recording. They had to add vocals to alot of them later.
Sucks when no one really grasps how great Syd Barrett was and how great he could have been. He was a true genius. It is tough for a listener to grasp how imaginative and how cool Barrett made the psychedelic era of Pink Floyd sound. He just had a way of reaching out to the ears.
I never cared about playing guitar until I saw Syd using a zippo lighter and making strange noises, at that moment it felt like a whole world of possibilities had opened up and I imagine this is what noise , shoegaze and post-rock guitarists saw in him too
I find it truly amazing he was in the studio next door to the Beatles and then Lennon later, tripping and chatting with them. Lennon and Syd tripping... Coulda' been a whole new LP right there! Film exists.. I wonder if there was ever a spoken word tape/mix in the bootleg pipeline? God.. To die for.

Under caul, actually. There was long a tradition of superstition around babies being born "under a caul" - residue from amniotic sac, which tied them into supernatural awareness.
David Gilmour transcribed the poem at the end of “No Man’s Land” from the multitrack tape. It was published in Rob Chapman’s book, _The Lyrics of Syd Barrett_.
@Zan Atoll Tell me, tell me, tell me, you need - need me so well Shut your shop, shut your shop, listen, listen, the horizon glows like a dove and I see From a mild, shiny ocean, choke and weave in a spinning wheel Pick up and tell love to me, open your door Musty sugar with dust making stale it crows the near day The Cockerell, listen, listen, short choose of play, Freedom of emotions and cracking my spleen 'cos we be us Is wishing - pick up and tell love to me - open your door Find - all I wish is shiver and whine the mean could no notice to be as they be Give a lot - listen listen - the grave sing you her song - heavily spaced All the crockery, china, war and spreading a spinning wheel Opening, what a roll but you open the door, some time, long ago Stream cool shallow water - seen a lot, seen a lot
There is a big element of Soft Machine here, but it's interesting to hear it in a rockier context, in contrast to their other work from this period which was very much more jazz-oriented.
+Adam H Soft Machine only played on "No Good Trying" and "Love You". And all the guitars are Syd's. Soft Machine didn't even have a guitarist, except for some early recordings with Daevid Allen.
Hello Adam H, Syd Barrett's rhythm section on "NO MAN'S LAND" and "HERE I GO" are Bassist WILLIE WILSON from JOKER'S WILD and Drummer JERRY SHIRLEY from HUMBLE PIE. THE SOFT MACHINE back up SYD on "LOVE YOU" and "NO GOOD TRYING." Raul..😐
There were some fine collaborators on his solo albums actually. Of course Gilmore and Floyd’s organ player would get royalties and all that. In fact, at the time Floyd was struggling and wasn’t a sure thing so of course an alignment with Syd of some sort was in order even though they were busy....
Always Syd B. will be satisfied with his technique and his art of playing. It always seemed beyond his ambition and his ideal, and if he worked hard, the result inevitably filled him. However everything he created frustrated him, it always seemed to him that he could do better, "better to see" ..
Very cool Psychedelic Pop tune! Nice distorted Guitars by EL SYD! Great rhythm section of Bassist WILLIE WILSON, from David Gilmour's former band JOKER'S WILD, .and Drummer JERRY SHIRLEY from British Pop/Rock band HUMBLE PIE.
Most of the time a pioneer is lost. The first ones on a new continent don't last long. The first brave souls headed to Mars probably won't last long after they set up the colony. Sometime in the 1990's this sound really hit FM radio. Its pioneer, Syd, long lost.
Very few have lived to tell the feeling they had while in No Man's Land...battlefield?....prison yard with double barbed electric fence with armed guard towers?...when I live (attempt escape) I die (guards obliged to shoot me)
Quick question, while I know quite a bit about Syd I've always been unclear about one thing. On Madcap Laughs the songs that Syd recorded with Soft Machine, were all the guitar parts Syd or was he just rhythm?
He didn’t even sweep up first. The legend he was. When Mick Rock came to take these photos Syd had just rolled out of bed, Iggy was knocking around naked!

juan roberto Navarro your not Jim Morrison !
yes he is.
You're* on my pissy diamond
He’s up there with Dylan and Tim Buckley
I LOVE SYD BARRETT RIP 🧸
Syd Barrett captures a moment in time and tells us like it is as only he can.
I love that deep low tone of his voice its hypnotic 😎 Syd was truly very unique, he's not your common pop artist.
Hi I recommend an indie song called 'Looking Into The Mirror' By Robert Nix
He wasn’t a pop artist
Was he even Pop?
Such a happy throwback to psychedelic rock. Syd Barrett was a genuine artist!
A true genius. without him , no pink floyd would have ever existed.

I do
Just another 3 chord druggy who ended up in mommy's basement.
you can't forget Syd
Syd never really got the respect due to him for his guitar playing. Especially all of the different tones and creative sounds he put out there.
I never cared about playing guitar until I saw Syd using a zippo lighter and making strange noises, at that moment it felt like a whole world of possibilities had opened up and I imagine this is what noise , shoegaze and post-rock guitarists saw in him too
Very earthy...sweet and masculine....I love it!
No Man’s Land is 1 of my favorite songs on The Madcap Laughs. I Love it!
Fantastic sound. Syd Barrett is the best!!!!!!
musical genius, absolute genius
such a banger
SYD BARRETT THE BOSS !!!! Allways for ever !!!!
The boss of what?? Totally overestimated, someone else who's legend totally outshines his 'talent' 🙄
It sucks that younger fans never really heard older Pink Floyd before they became the huge phenomenon they are now.
