Wilko was special. When you can create something unique and original in a blues format like this.....that's something. RIP brother, you were one of kind.
Wilko and his mentor Mick Green most under rated guitarists ever both could do the work of two guitarists rhythm and lead at the same time......brilliant
This American grabbed a copy of "Down By the Jetty" in 1975 after seeing Bob Andrews and Brinsley Schwarz's names on the back. Man, was I impressed. Even more so when "Malpractice" came out and I realized that Wilko was just the kind of guitar player I wanted to hear in an era that featured nothing but excessive noodling. I'd never heard this before but it's a great slice of history and watching the man whirl around the stage like a demented dervish is definitely worth the price of admission! Thanks for posting this.
Pete i like your reply ,, what a fantastic sound , it a wonder this striding guy as any fingernails on , his facial expressions are beyond reason ,, what a complete package , i adore him always Jane x
Hello Pate…weirdest fact about Wilko. His guitars are likely other unique makes. He had ONE or TWO, especially made for him. Not a FENDER, ( and i kidd you not)
In case you are wondering where this is, its filmed in Auckland New Zealand, I think it was 1985 at a long gone venue called Mainstreet. The bass guitarist is Neil Edwards, someone will know the drummer. he did three or four songs, Back in the NIght was awesome. Stevie Ray Vaughan appeared this night also, which was an unexpected appearance. , it was an amazing night.
Ah, notre bon Wilko ! Nous pouvons dire que nous l’aimons celui-là ; si le monde du rock était à son image, le rock pourrait être notre musique soufie. C’est en tout cas une belle vidéo, merci.
Wow - I've never seen this before! Any idea if there's any more and who the other muso's are? And I love the bits of dub-style echo thesoundman put on to some of Wilko's choppy chaords in the breaks...
This was at Mainstreet in Auckland New Zealand. The rhythm section are Neil Edwards (bass) and Dennis Ryan (drums). Wilko was touring as part of The NZ All Stars Band. RIP Wilko x
The description of the vid doesn't mention the other fairly insignificant band he was in, Ian Dury and the Blockeads. Also the description calls the Clash, Pistols etc as new wave, that is a ridiculous insult
He’s an entertaining idiosyncratic guitarist and I enjoy listening to him. He’s written some great songs. He is not a great guitarist at all, and he can’t sing.
@@redrobefan You’re right. Clapton IS a rotten singer. If he’d only learned to be a decent sideman maybe the world would be a better place. He only had a career in the seventies because of Carl Radle. And he’s a racist.
Richard Wilco is in a class of his own hes talented , a genius and very dramatic , i adore his facial expressions ,, most of all hes a superb guitar player ,, Mr clapton as no fun about him in fact hes a genius performer ,,, full stop ....Wilco is a man of all seasons xx Jane xx He strides more across the stage , that would cover the London marathon lol x Jane x
see all the girlies in the front row get scared there when Wilco lit them up? ROFL I sure hope to hell that Wilco formed an impromptu band on the GoT set when work wrapped up and entertained the crew. Oh, what a party that would to have been part of!
There's only one Wilko Johnson..RIP🙏🏽

That punk...
Wilko is the only one pub rock legend ! Go to Wikopedia !!!

Ayer en el festival Altaveu de mi ciudad. Impresionado por su curiosa técnica y sus tablas y energía con esa edad. Muy grande

Taken in New Zealand where Wilko did a tour with some of NZs top blues players. Those are all NZ players backing Wilko.
This was at Mainstreet in Auckland New Zealand. The rhythm section are Neil Edwards (bass) and Dennis Ryan (drums). Wilko was touring as part of The NZ All Stars Band. RIP Wilko x
Superb ! Not sure who the musicians are ? Probably a transition between Solid Senders and Ian Dury. 79/80?
Hey Patrick - that video was takin in New Zealand with an all Kiwi Backing band. I was at this show standing next to the guy that made the video.
@@MrRetromaniacs what year was this Graham? 😎🎸
@@patrickhiggins6726 i d hazard two guesses… maybe ‘79…or else 81/82
@@frlango6082 cheers 👍😎🎸
Dr. Feelgood was not the same without Will&Co
Sorry - meant to say that the Blondie song sounds like 'All through the city'
Funny that there's a comment about Blondie in the notes -
The riff before she sings on 'Picture this' obviously owes a nod to 'Down by the Jetty'
Wilko+Blondie= Oh My Lord!

No one will hold it against you
Wilco is better than Clapton .
Easy to be

What year was this?
Somoene here say 1979 (the red shirt years) but could be later. Somethin tells me it was b4 THE BLOCKHEADS album, which I think was released in 1981
Ilyn Payne is in a band. Well I'll be damned.
Depeche Mode have a song that sounds like it's very much inspired by this one....😅
