It is astonishing that Kyle, Lonnie, and Rogelio grew up with these three as well as Catra, but they dont get the same hand extended to them that Catra does, or see Adora seem to care about them at all.
silly child stupid logic or basic reasoning don't matter all that matters is shipping, it doesn't matter if catra has been shown to be a monster or her motivations made redundant the moment adora asked her to come in the first episode we have to see her as the sympathetic character despite literally everything. And things like the show literally had adora realize catra isn't worth saving they'll just backtrack to make the ship happen. Yeah THIS is why it's bad when a writer has CLEAR, CLEAR!, favoritism for a specific character.
Something interesting about Lonnie, she's technically in the 80s series. She was Adora's 2nd and her best friend. Adora trusted her enough to respond to a message where Lonnie asked Adora for help leaving the Horde. It turned out to be a trap as the Horde are holding her father hostage and are going to send him to the mines unless Lonnie lures Adora to Beast Island. Obviously, the Horde was lying about setting her father free and she regrets betraying Adora. Righting the wrong Lonnie and her father escape Beast Island with Adora and she joins the Rebellion. This one off character had a better story in 80s She-Ra than a recurring one in Nu-Ra.
The new team acts like the original characters had no background and personally. Shouldn’t trust the people that haven’t the original when talking about the original
@@Green.Star_ks "No background and personality" I'm almost positive the people behind Nu-Ra had a chart that connected people with colored lines in place of a series bible. Yeah it's probably a coincidence that both series had a character named "Lonnie" or it was just on a list of names like Mara was.

"Who cares about enslaved child soldiers, we have to project our activism and ship characters who are our self insert avatars!" Kyle was the underdog, but Roghelio and Lonne are also better characters than the main focused Princesses. Quite a failure in the character developement department.

That would require learning sign language or finding someone who knows sign language and for as diverse as these women claim to be, I highly doubt they know any deaf people.
Probably one of the more frustrating aspects of how She-Ra was written was how unfocused it was. Like, if you're not planning on exploring an element of the setting don't spend a bunch of screen time drawing attention to it. You end up both distracting from what's actually supposed to be important and potentially getting people invested in something that's not going to have a payoff.
There was so many chances so many episodes they literally had 5 seasons they even made a little swiftwind shorts if they can't make some actual good writing 😐

“WE we’re your friends!” That one line is very telling, for a show about friendship and bonds this show never really had any genuine ones. The “best friend squad” felt so surface level and forced that it may has well been a shallow high school friend group that falls apart when you graduate to college. And the Horde group was never expanded on besides kicking Kyle down at every moment and the show forcing Catra and she-ra together, the lizard guy and whatever the other girl’s name is were there as props. The only mention of some form of companionship was mentioned off-screen by young Adora in a flashback and all it did was show yet another reason why Catra was awful and needs some mental help, not a romantic relationship with her emotional-punching bag.

It's such a huge misstep that Adora didn't try to convince Lonnie, Kyle, and Rogelio to leave instead of focusing on Catra, who never once wanted to listen to her. Lonnie was the most level headed out of the group and became a much better leader to the team than Catra was. I'm sure Adora could have convinced her that it was the best option for all of them. Also I really hate the whole "they're all dating each other" thing... like why does everything have to end up being romantic? Can't they just be like a family? Also I think a poly relationship for people who lived their entire lives being emotionally abused is not a good idea.

This is a copy of a comment I made on the Kyle video, it just fits here better: The lizard should have had SOMETHING TO HIM. Like, no ome understands him? BOOM, he uses hand signals. There, now we can make him have some more character and, the way this show was, he can be representation for mute individuals. His lizard people seem to only exist in the Horde but are rare, kinda like the Scorpions, so he could be part of a conquered people who was taken from his family and has had his entire culture taken away from him and erased as the Horde has wiped out his peoples culture during conquest. That can give him some conflict as he serves the horde, knowing what they've done, giving his coldness some depth. He rarely tries to talk and when he does it gets made into a joke, so, since the Horde, the bad guys I remind you, are a EVIL MILITARY STATE, they might not let him and the rest of his fellow people speak in hand signs unless given specific permission from commanders(who most likely don't know it themselves so never give the clear) literally making him and all lizards voiceless. They could even make it against regulations to let more than one lizard to serve in certain sized units to deprive them of unity or social interaction, making them socially deprived and easier to control for the EVIL Horde. Maybe he doesn't speak up for Kyle or try to stop the others both because he literally can't and that no one would speak up for him. Bonus, it would make the Horde TRULY REPULSIVE if that was the kind of thing they did to other species they conquered and consider less than under Hordak.
It could also set up a heartwarming characteristic of the Horde trio. We could find out that Loni and Kyle learned the sign language, either behind their commanders’ backs or under an excuse of “well, what if he needs to report something to us in the field?”, so they could understand their lizard friend when he “speaks”. Plus, once they leave the Horde, you could show them keeping a look out for any book or artifact from Rodego’s culture, since they know there is so little left of his whole civilization.
Rogelio, Lonnie, and Kyle should have been the main characters of the show and adora, bow, and glimmer should have been villains tbh. They're just a lot more interesting than the "bff squad", and while they have little backstory, they had soooo much potential with their character arcs. Talk about a waste!

One of my biggest thoughts about this aspect of the plot was why Adora never really warmed up to Kyle. The other kids seemed at most indifferent towards her, and Catra actively attacks her when she tries to be too close to her, so it’s surprising that she didn’t develop a stronger connection with Kyle since they both feel like outsiders, and I doubt he would reject her kindness.
True. However, if they get too close and too relatable, people could ship them. Catradora was always endgame, and we ALL KNOW heterosexuality doesn't exist in this show.

TLA had an episode where Zuko, Azula, and their friends had a beach episode. That episode saw how, for lack of a better term, outside they were for their ages and among their own people. She-Ra claims to be inspired by TLA, but never seemed to have taken anything of value from it
How- just how do anyone say THIS show is inspired by TLA all the main characters EVEN least important characters had amazing character development even the main evil Zuko had an AMAZING character change and he worked so hard to get everyones trust when they was also in war 😠😐

I think the whole show deserved better. Better writing, better character development, better designs, better character designs, better treatment and leadership, and better... everything. Prove me wrong.
The only thing i consider good/decent is the character designs. Most characters are either underdeveloped, still assholes or their whole personality is "gay"

I just wish the designs were used for characters I DID care for and not just some token character like Spins and Nets ectect.
The problem is that Kyle wouldn't be a wimp as a soldier. He'd either have bulked up (even if he was short) or died. This is how people use child soldiers. It's not nice and happy and light. This is not the sort of this thing you want to use in a kid's show, for any reason.
This show has so many potential characters and failed to utilize practically all of them. Either it be some of the princess, side characters or even like the horde members here. It is just clear that Noelle and others just did not care and shows by not only their poor writing, but their very poor use of characters.

The Horde Kids had so much Potential in the Story. It's a Shame they never got the Focus they deserve. I think I would have rewritten them like this: *Rogelio* : He was a bit of an Older Brother-Figure for the Group and sometimes helped Adora take care of the others. Later became the Muscle of their Team. Because he was mute, the other Kids didn't understand him at first, but managed to develop a Sign Language to communicate. Even Catra can use it, although she was always pretty bad at it-which led to an Inside Joke about her having a "Speech Impediment". *Lonnie* : Where Catra and Adora are Melee Specialists, Lonnie is pretty talented with a Rifle (let's just pretend for a Moment the Horde used Weapons beside Electro Batons). She is a perfectly good Soldier, but was never quite as good as Adora or Catra. *Kyle* : Kyle is small, weak, and not the best Fighter, which is why he often got bullied by the other Cadets and Catra. What he lacks in Strength however, he makes up in technical Knowhow. He knows how to repair most Machines or how to sabotage them....which is an Ability that comes in handy when the Team fakes their Deaths and Kyle rigs their Vehicle to explode to cover their Tracks. He also has a high Tolerance to Pain from Years of getting bullied and accidentally electrocuting himself a few Times.
See writers, a few more sentences devoted to each character, and their characterization is both vastly fleshed out and more interesting. Also, plus 1 vote for the Trio faking their deaths in the forest episode, and getting some freedom earlier instead of going back to Catra’s meltdown. I would also add Kyle’s ability being used later to royally screw over the Horde by crippling their robot production, even if only temporally. Bonus points if he does it in a way the frames Catra for it.

Bow actually offers him the Chance to come with them to Bright Moon, and while it is an incredibly tempting Offer, he decides to stay. He wants to convince Lonnie and Rogelio to come with him. Despite everything, he can't just abandon them. Adora warns him that, if he stays, Hordak might find out that he was the one who released Bow from Prison, but Kyle is willing to take the Risk.
@@DragoNugget Thank you. 😊 On paper, the Reboot is *amazing* ! I truly believe that this could have been an awesome Show. Maybe not the next Avatar or Gravity Fall, but definitely something good. That's an Opinion I will always defend. I actually set myself a bit of a Challenge: Tell my Version of She-Ra, with all the...."updated" Characters in the same amount of Episodes. So far, it doesn't look too bad, if I'm honest. Scorpia is still very friendly, but also a legitimate Badass that loves fighting- instead of Catra. Mermista actually cares about her People and her Kingdom, to the point where she would rather go down with it than give it up. Hordak and Entrapta are kindred Souls: Brilliant Scientists that do not really care about their Underlings, and who are stuck on a Backwater Planet full of People that don't appreciate their Genius. There won't be any shipping or romance, except for maybe between the already established couples: Mermista and Seahawk, Nettossa and Spinerella and Lance and George. Also, I fully intent on actually *using* the Idea that Bow has so many Brothers. (Seriously, Stevenson. Why establish the Fact and then never bring them up again? Were the other Kids just a Figment of Lance and George's Imagination?!?)
Fun fact: Lonnie is played by the same save VA who voiced Claire in Motorcity, a character I love an a show that I loved that did the whole 'diversity' thing better than this. But on that, this is why props goes to the OG show using only small number of human characters on the Horde side and focusing on them when needed. For the most part, the Horde army were robots which was done for 'safety' reasons when it came to moral guardians but one upside to the part of your enemy characters being non-human is that you can kill as many as you want and in various ways. Kyle, Lonnie and Rogelio however don't exist for any other reason other than superficial ones. We already know the deal with Kyle, him being a shallow punching back for Noelle and her crew's revenge fantasy, while Lonnie is 'Brown girl 1' and Rogelio is alien kid. In a better show, they would be apart of the Horde main baddies, each with a more unique aspect about them outside their gender and HUMAN race (cutting Regelio a bit of slack here because alien lizards are always cool) much like Scorpia and the original Entrapta, both being ladies with physical gimmicks but also having another purpose, serving as the tech and a fighter. If they wanted to do something with the three, that sort of dynamic could have been set up. Rogelio could have been the Beastmaster of the show, being physically strong and intelligent to his own character but also have the ability to handle (and control) various hunting animals as well as rare species the Horde would want to exploit for their powers. Imagine if things were handled better, Rogelio could have captured Swiftwing and tried to use his powers or they could have also found the lizard they mutated and turned it into an anti-Swiftwind with Rogelio being able to communicate with it due to them being close to the same species. Lonnie could have been the ORIGINAL tech expert on the team and have massive jealousy for Entrapta when Hordak gets her and finds that she is also a genious but unlike Lonnie may be willing to do certain things or h values her more for knowing more secrets about She-Ra that Lonnie was not able to figure out. If the idea was to keep Entrapa on the good side, Lonnie making tech to fight against her would have been great and even more, had they kept Shadowweaver on board longer, Lonnie could have gone to her for an unwilling 'partnership' to combine dark magic with tech like how things sort of worked with She-Ra to increase her powers, possible leading up to her failure. And we already know about Kyle. Kyle works as the character that eventually turns to the side of good as he reminds me of the character that Glimmer falls in love with who was a member of the Horde but despite her love she QUESTIONS him about his willingness to join but also LISTENS to him which is the important factor. In a better show, it wouldn't have been Bow and Glimmer but Glimmer and Kyle but I mean that if we made Glimmer a better character as well. The way she is now, being with her is a punishment more than a reward. At the end of the day, these three deserved 'better' but that goes so far when we're talking about a show who's main intention was never to entertain a stable fanbse, but just Noelle venting to the one she already had but with the skin of a new series that she had no hand in creating.
I personally prefer Lonnie is the Beastmaster role. Mostly because in her sole appearance in the original had them befriending a Dino/dragon and I love the idea of Lonnie adopting it.

@@CoolG97 Hell, we could have had an episode where in the middle of the 'war', the BFS run into Kyle and the others while some of the BFS are injured and the first one who tries to help is Kyle. Of course, Glimmer and Bow try to force him back because 'they don't trust him' but in a moment of actual character development, Adora could stop them and tell them that Kyle DOES know how to treat and help with injuries, both physical and magical. It COULD have been a start on some redemption and character building but NOPE.

You guys always present such interesting analyses and alternate takes on the Princesses of Power characters. They sound much more compelling that what I've heard and seen in the show (I've mostly seen your videos and only a few actual episodes to be honest). I wish to see a video on what went wrong with Catra's arc and how it could have been done better. I'll say it right now: NOT destroying the universe just to spite Adora would be a definite plus.
A) i would actually love to see them write there own she-ra/heman comic series (they clearly are fans & know there stuff) if they got a good artist I think it would be a big hit b) alternate option for catra have the destroying the universe but done BACKTRACK on adora cutting ties with her and pull an azula style thing
This show was just about Noelle. Terrible world building, plot, and character arcs. All of that thrown away for shipping and Noelle writing for her self asserted fanfic.
Noelle spewed some nonsense about wanting to make She-ra non-white, and that Lonnie was her original design for the new protagonist instead of Adora. Just throwing it out there
She had a chance to make Huntara black (the OG 80s version was based on Storm of the X-Men and Grace Jones) and she blew it and made Huntara a purple Powerlifter instead.
You see the issue here is you were expecting “compelling drama” but the people working on this show only care about melodrama, shipping, and mommy issues. Characters, story, themes, compelling drama? No time for that, not when you can joke around about a supposed deadly war.
I mean they were the only ones she talked to as kid I think most would assume they were all best friends, but of course cat girl is selfish so she's going to want to hang out with the adora more than others
Even if they weren’t actually friends in the horde, they would have been the closest thing to friends any of them would have had at the time. I would have been happy with even just exploring *any* relationship they had with each other in the horde. Were they neutral to each other, with Adora’s commander training keeping her away from them except for meals and training exercises? Were the horde trio hostile/cold to her, either because of the favoritism Shadow Weaver gave her or because Adora wouldn’t listen when they tried to warn her about some of her “mother’s” tactics? They could have pretty much done anything, but instead we got mostly nothing.
Apparently, Kyle and Rogelio used to be a couple, this wasn't something confirmed on twitter, Kyle's locker in a flashback has his and Rogelio's name inside a heart... this one random fact is light-years more interesting than Gaylo (Catradora)
It's amazing how much filler was in the show, even when they tried to make it an arching drama thing. These guys could've been the Team Rocket trio of this show.
I liked the show when i watched it but the more i think of it after, the more i go "oh man, this really did suck". Of course, doesn't help that Catra is a HUGE trigger for me (reminds me of someone who did horrible things blah blah ptsd). There were so many different things they could have done but they didn't. Plus, considering most characters are self-inserts, eh??? Its really unprofessional
Don’t worry, Catra rings all kinds of alarm bells, even for people without PTSD. Especially the more people think back over her character arc. I can only imagine that she is like a bad ghost given form for people who have lived through a relationship like how she treats Adora and everyone around her. Especially since the story very obviously does *not* call her out on her tactics.
I feel like Kyle would be a great character to be the one character that understands Rohelio [or however you spell his name]...kinda like Raph from Transformers Prime being the only human to be able to understand Bumblebee.
Fr the show would be "The three hord kids" (The story of three kids trying to Escape their homes to go to the outside world but will they survive the outside world meet many people trying to get away from their so called "homes") you see how so interesting that sounds little girl just picking up the sword and just magically having powers there's so many other shows that did that already
Something that always bugged me about this show, and these Horde kids are a part of that, is how the Horde even formed in the first place. If life is so miserable in the Horde and everyone knows it down to the children raised in it then how did Hordak build an army in the first place? Overwhelming power can go a long way to getting you supporters but Hordak's tech, especially before the recruitment of Entrapta, isn't strong enough to tackle the teenage princesses and their powers and early on he would have been fighting Queens who had full mastery of theirs. He managed to get some kind diplomatic deal going with the Scorpion people but that shouldn't have worked out either since the Black Garnet would have given the Queen of the Scorpion people more then enough might to fight off the early Horde. This all ties back into another aspect of the Horde kiddos that's underutilized; their status as lifelong Horde members that aren't Adora. They would have been a really useful tool to explain the history of the Horde and the benefits that made joining it in the early stages seem like a better deal than sticking with the established kingdoms. Kyle and the Cadet kids are a valuable window into the motivations of the Horde outside of the one or two people at the top but they're too busy being used as punching bags to tell us anything.
Original had it so the planet was just overwhelmed by the Horde, they had more firepower and Etheria is more magic over tech. Much like a lot of other things that doesn't exist anymore and just raises more questions.

@@CoolG97 exactly. In the original, Etheria was a sword & sorcery world and The Horde arrived with their tech and their numbers that could match up and sometimes defeat magic users. Many magic users died or were captured by the Horde and sent off somewhere. Or like how The Horde teamed up with the harpies of Talon Mountain to finally topple Queen Angella and King Micah to take over Brightmoon. But fighting all of those magicians left the horde depleted, which is why they can't move on Mystacor. But nah!!! Scrap all that lore! Etheria is now a tech-based magic planet! And the first ones were just going to blow the planet up as a weapon against Horde Prime!
@@unigenius Hordak himself knew magic, he could shape shift parts of his body at will. His army had aliens that also had powers. Some parts of Etheria still didn't take the Horde seriously. Silneas thought the Horde wasn't a problem because they were underwater (a mermaid kingdom UNDERWATER well that's silly) but then came a submarine. Nope all gone, the Horde having a literal galaxy of resources? Nope, only this single planet. And frankly Nu-Etheria is just stupid, it's not magic it's tech wait no there is magic but it's blocked by the tech. Old Etheria was simple, fire beings gave people magic and now chill in the planets core waiting for someone to ask fo the strength they had all along.

And you just hit on something that super bothered me about the new series, MERMISTA AND SALINIAS!! Why is the kingdom not underwater? Why is she the only Indian-coded character and nothing else about Salinas seems inspired by India? Why is she a girl that can become a mermaid instead of a mermaid that can become a human?
What about this show that didn't fall flat? Incompetence only ever displays incompetence, that's why everything interesting we could have got, never happened and everything that was dumb, was brought to the forefront! The whole show is a missed opportunity, this could have been on par with He-Man 200X, or the 2012 ThunderCats reboot, or even the Voltron shows, only problem was, they got the worst possible team to bring it to fruition and all we got was a comedy scene that wasn't funny, interesting and went on for far too long!
I have been working on my own outline for the show with the same number of episodes and coming up with arcs for both the princess characters and the Horde characters. Here's how I would have done Rogelio’s arc: Season 1: Rogelio can do anything that a lizard can (inspired by Tsuyu Asui from My Hero Academia), but he keeps his abilities to himself because he doesn’t want to be treated differently by his teammates. Throughout the series, situations keep happening that force him to use his abilities, and his teammates prove that they don’t care about that. Rogelio’s abilities include: Moving his eyeballs independently in order to see in two different directions at the same time, which gives him a 360-degree view around himself. Using his tongue to smell, catching scents in the air, and then taste them in his mouth. Shooting his tongue out far and super-fast. Detaching his tail and re-growing it later. Wrapping his tail around things to help with climbing. Holding his breath for half an hour. Walking on water, as long as he stays up to speed, about 5 feet per second. Changing the color of his skin, using color swaps to regulate his body temperature. Rogelio is in a relationship with Kyle and they have been in a relationship since before the start of the series, but they are keeping it a secret from Shadow Weaver. Lonnie, Adora, and Catra know. (Shadow Weaver knows too, but she’s using her knowledge to manipulate them.) Rogelio can speak normally, like Catra (but when he is upset or frustrated, he speaks using guttural speech sounds (grunting)) Rogelio has put everything he has into blending in, the opposite of Catra who has put everything she has into standing out. After Adora leaves, Catra, Lonnie, Kyle, and Rogelio form a She-Ra retrieval team under Force Captain Octavia. Rogelio doesn’t want to deal with the fact that Adora left. He becomes unresponsive to conversations about her, and he clings harder to his remaining teammates, struggling to keep the peace between them. During meetings where they discuss their plans to capture Adora, Rogelio always seems anxious, and usually plays with his cup and ball, during the meetings and not participating in discussions. After he sees She-Ra in action for the first time (Usually it’s he and Lonnie vs Netossa and Spinderella), Rogelio becomes a bit closed off. He refuses to believe that they will get Adora back and doesn’t see the point in trying. This causes Kyle and Lonnie to becomes frustrated with him. Rogelio wasn’t as close with Adora as Catra or Lonnie, but they did have a pretty strong friendship. Adora was the only one on the squad who understood him when he talked in grunts, and she often snuck him bugs and small animals when she snuck out of the fright zone with Catra (Rations make him sick, so he usually looks for food elsewhere in the fright zone.) Rogelio has a habit of eating when he’s stressed, and he uses food as a comfort. He starts eating a lot more after Adora leaves. Kyle wants to talk to Rogelio about his feelings about Adora and his unhappiness in the Horde. Rogelio is usually the mediator and counselor of the team, mostly having to keep Lonnie and Catra from fighting, but he can’t seem to handle conversations about Adora, and whenever Kyle tries to bring up the idea of them leaving too, Rogelio shuts him down. Rogelio is devastated when Kyle helps Bow escape and runs off with the rebellion. Season 2: Catra is now Force Captain and is put in charge of Lonnie, Rogelio, and Entrapta. Rogelio doesn’t respect Catra as a leader, so he doesn’t really listen to her. Rogelio takes Kyle’s abandonment hard and blames himself. He retreats into himself and checks out. We get a flashback of Kyle asking Rogelio out, and of a couple of happier moments between them. We find out Rogelio’s backstory: Rogelio grew up in a small village on the outskirts of the fright zone. He and his mother were mistreated for their appearance, and none of the children in the village liked him. After his mother passed away, Rogelio was homeless in the village and no one would take him in. When the Horde invaded the town, Shadow Weaver took him in and brought him to the fright zone. There he met Kyle, Lonnie, and Catra. He quickly became best friends with Lonnie and Kyle. (Rogelio didn’t meet Adora until he was 12. Catra didn’t really like him when they were young.) Lonnie eventually gets sick of Rogelio’s wallowing and manages to get him to open up about his feelings. They both wonder if they were responsible for driving him away (Lonnie worries it was her teasing, while Rogelio wonders if it was his refusal to listen to what Kyle was saying.). Lonnie promises that she won’t leave and the two promise to be there for each other, even if that means putting up with Catra. Entrapta makes Rogelio uncomfortable, since she seems curious about his lizard abilities and keeps messing with him During confrontations with She-Ra and her squad, Rogelio tries his best to stay away from Kyle. Kyle does try to talk to him about it. Rogelio stops him from apologizing, he asks Kyle if he’s happy. Kyle says that he and that he’s finally found where he belongs. Rogelio says that’s all that matters. Kyle hugs him and then they go their separate ways. Rogelio notices that Catra is stressed by her role as force captain and he tries to talk to her. Catra snaps at him and that’s the last attempted conversation they have this season. At the end of the season, Catra is sent to the crimson waste. Rogelio is shell-shocked at the loss of another teammate. Season 3: While Catra is in the crimson waste, Lonnie, Rogelio, and Entrapta are the only members of the She-Ra retrieval team left. Lonnie is made Force Captain. Lonnie does her best to take charge, while Rogelio is just numb. Rogelio clings very tightly to Lonnie this season and seems to become like her shadow. It causes tension between him and Lonnie. She voices an idea and Rogelio instantly agrees. She trains, and Rogelio will sit nearby, snacking on something that he found. She snaps at Rogelio and he just takes. Lonnie becomes disillusioned with the horde, realizing that her position as Force Captain hasn’t actually affected anything. Lonnie is struggling to cover her basis, worried that if she fails to capture Adora, she will be fired like Octavia, or shipped off to Beast Island like Catra. Lonnie becomes a shorter fuse, and, as she feels the walls closing in on her, she broaches the idea of leaving with Rogelio. Rogelio quietly askes Lonnie if she’s going to break her promise. Lonnie tells Rogelio to wake up, and that the Horde doesn’t care about them. She says that if they leave, then they can stay together. Rogelio doesn’t respond and Lonnie walks away. When Rogelio goes looking for her, Lonnie is gone. Rogelio doesn’t tell anyone that Lonnie is gone and tries to keep it a secret. Hordak eventually figures it out and bring Rogelio to his chambers to confront/punish him. Luckily, Catra returns, having captured Adora. Things take a turn when Catra has Entrapta sent to Beast Island and pulls the switch on the portal in the season 3 finale. It turns out that Catra and Rogelio’s idea of a dream world is the same: All of them together in the fright zone. Season 4: Catra and Rogelio are the only ones left. Catra is racked with guilt over her actions in the finale. Catra tries to take out her feelings on Rogelio and starts to push harder, while Rogelio starts to increasingly shut down. Rogelio becomes unresponsive, pushing Catra away. Catra becomes more aggressive and belligerent and Rogelio responds by not responding. This causes Catra to snap at Rogelio to leave, and Rogelio snaps for the first time in the series, raising his voice. He lets her know that she wasn’t the only one who was abandoned and that he also lost everyone. He lets her know that he isn’t going anywhere and that no matter how she treats him, she won’t drive him away from the only place that’s ever felt like home to him. Catra and Rogelio’s relationship begins to improve after that. Rogelio and Catra are both the only members of their squad who are animal-like in nature. As such, Rogelio felt a connection to Catra, but their difference in handling their appearances put a bit of a rift between them. Rogelio has always admired Catra’s self-confidence and admits that he enjoyed her brashness. Rogelio becomes like a safe harbor to Catra, someone she can let her guard down around and relax. Catra lets Rogelio know her intentions to rescue Entrapta from Beast Island. She asks Rogelio to cover for her, and he agrees. When Catra returns to the Horde with Kyle and Meelog instead of Entrapta, Rogelio is surprised but pleased. Kyle and Rogelio make up. Lonnie also returns, with information on how to take down Hordak. Over the course of the season, they formulate a plan to take down Hordak, Meelog keeps the Imp away from them. In the finale, Catra faces Hordak, aided by Rogelio, Kyle, and Lonnie. Rogelio goes all out, using his lizard abilities without fear. Season 5 Rogelio, Lonnie, Kyle, and Scorpia have joined the rebellion. Rogelio is struggling at first to adjust to living outside of the fright zone and feels uncomfortable around the members of the rebellion. They treat him kindly though, and Rogelio eventually stops wearing his Horde uniform and changes into something more similar to the rebellion’s style. In the finale, Rogelio, Kyle, Lonnie, and Catra are all together. Scorpia lets them know that they are always welcome in the Fright Zone (her kingdom, now that Hordak and Horde Prime are gone.) Rogelio reveals that he and Kyle are going to travel and see what the world has to offer.
Also, Rogelio’s animation is terrible in his face when he does his speech, his eyes keep shifting and the animators don’t seem to know where his eyes are placed and how far they are apart. It makes his face look thin and wide every second 3:07
...Nobody had any serious hope for this show, they literaly brought a shadow director to do the job because the diversity hire did not have the skills for it. What is one more mistake on the pile?

I've been wanting to write a She Ra fanfic where I start over and give some characters from this reboot the attention and potential they deserve, but now that I'm back in college, it's hard to find time. I can at least work on ideas for it, though. Here's what I'd do for the Horde trio: So they all grew up in the Horde with Adora, and they're all friends. I want to make them all adept fighters and give them individualized weapons. For Kyle's mistreatment, I'm changing things around. He is actually a good fighter, but when sent on his first mission, he can't bring himself to hurt or kill innocent people. He isn't killed, but he is now disgraced among his fellow soldiers. Everyone mocks him, even Lonnie, with Rogelio and Adora being the only ones who don't give him crap. After Adora leaves, we can see how hurt the trio is after Adora leaves. For Bow, have him actually listen and sympathize with Kyle's story. He invites Kyle to the Rebellion and he becomes a double agent in the Horde for a bit. Eventually, Lonnie finds out about this and his also hurt by his betrayal. Kyle asks her while she always bullies him, and she says she didn't want to be ostracized and bullied as well. After tearfully apologizing, Lonnie is invited by Kyle to leave with him and join the Rebellion. She agrees, but the two are stopped by Rogelio. However, he overheard the whole thing and is coming along too. The 3 make the trek until they reach Bright Moon. Adora reunites with them, apologizes for not helping them sooner, and invites them to the Rebellion. Also, we can also have the trio join missions with the Princesses and other members (Bow, Seahawk) so they can gain their trust and becomes their friends too. Well, that was a typeful. a while back I had an interesting idea for how some of the horde soldiers could have joined which also could show some world building, maybe instead of the horde abusing them all there life it was one of the kingdoms, they lived under a corrupt king, lived in squalor and in the end it created a "some men only want to watch the world burn" who accepts the cruelty of the horde because it wasn't the cruelty of the kingdoms , it may be a simple thing but it would have given some characterization to the cadets, provided some worldbuilding showing there are some corrupt kingdoms and gives motivation to the protagonist (aka the princess who will lead kingdoms) in doing good inside there kingdoms which for this shows worth could just be set pieces with how little importance they have
Those two really didn't make any impact. Unlike Kyle who the show tried to make the punch line which had the opposite effect of making him endearing. They were just kind of there and forgettable which the show even points out with Adora not even caring about leaving them. Even the drama like Lonnie and Adora, there was really no connection since the _show_ only _told,_ which is never good. They were only relevant when plot tried to make them when the showrunners remembered they were characters. I honestly don't even remember their names until they're said. Their only real use the show cared about with them was shipping fodder, when Kyle wasn't canon fodder.
Kyle is only known because people call his name when something bad happens like “way to go KYLE!” or “let’s blame KYLE!” the other two are pretty much the lizard guy and not catra.

Its... honestly still amazing to me, the fact that this show has remained relevant in popular culture, even has multiple entries in tv-tropes, I guess.... people really don't care how badly written something is as long as it gives them the basics and some breadcrumbs of good ideas.
@@cartoonking1789 I'd like to believe that but again, it has multiple entries on tv-tropes, even if that's only because of twitter and tumblr, those sites still have a lot of reach in the online pop culture, especially the sites I visit that are considered niche have members that give praise to the show. I'm honestly flabbergasted.
It would be funny how much missed potential there was writting wise if it wasn't sad. They got 50 episodes approved since the beggining and couldn't make a cohesive world with that. Instead they spent so much of that time in fller and rushing arcs. Now the original She-Ra was episodic and yet it fleshed it's world in a more natural way, and had stonger character moments for secondary characters, they were competent. So the new she-ra staff has no grounds to call names the original show when they couldn't be competent enought to make something great with what they had.
You two hit the nail in the coffin on my thoughts on the hole thing. I honestly for me it would have been cool to see kyle,rogelio and lonnie along side double trouble actually being a team and go to there own thing. But that’s just me
Imagine if She-ra had the entire first season with Adora in the Horde. It would be an entire season to see Adora’s life and relationship with people of the horde. An entire season of her seeing the war from the horde’s perspective and seeing her internal conflict with what she knows it’s requested of her and what she thinks it’s the right thing to do. An entire season of Adora going on missions against the rebellion while she sees all the destruction and pain her side is causing before making the decision to leave. It would make much more sense if her decision to leave the horde was made after more deliberation from her part. Leaving everybody and everything she knows is a big deal. Also, it would be an opportunity for Glimmer to start gaining respect from her mother entirely by herself without the help of She-ra. And then the season finale had Adora switching sides and becoming she-ra for the first time.
Is it possible that if you go back to She ra, you can talk about the relationship between Adora and Catra as couple and the awkward abusive parents allusions they both have with Shadow Weaver when the other horde kids didn't
It's quite telling of the show's priorities that they said on twitter that these three ended up in a joined relationship. I'm not a fan of the resolution, but hell, I would have taken that being setup and developed in the show over what we got, because that's at least something.

Adora could have led a rebellion to get a bunch of horde kids out of the horde. I’m pretty sure the OG adora/she-ra did this in season 1, only it was people of etheria that hordak had enslaved and was then sucking the life out of.
You know if you ask me I feel like this she ra would be interesting if we saw stories and characters of people who weren’t from the past show a bit and characters from the sides like characters effected by the war and characters who are soldiers for the horde and resistance kinda of like Star Wars the clone wars with the clones I love it when stories focus on minor characters more and it could show just how much more of an impact and how important the war really has on others but sadly they didn’t
There were only mostly flashbacks of Catra hurting someone and catra not get her away though the "show" Even a episode at the end of the series trying to redeem a character she scratches the side of a Adora's cheek just because Lonnie is talking to her. Like Wow so no one sees how out Control she is and how a abusive she as a person😐
They deserved so much more, the lack of the Horde kid trio in S5 was a major bummer not going to lie but I understand why other things got the spotlight instead. If we do get any additional material I hope to God we get to see more of them.

I personally still question why out all the hundreds of animal people 'who aren't already nearly human' seen Toung-lasher was the only one who ever spoke. It brings the whole of Etheria into legitimate questioning. If people with non-human 'snout' faces can't talk than what is Swiftwind?
This show is so bad, has so many plot holes and bad character decisions and could end up having kids thinking Catra's behavior to Adora is normal in relationships! It makes me so uncomfortable when I see people everywhere singing the show's praise
Lonnie in particular could have been better utilized in the series as well as her relationship with Adora. I am at least glad that Lonnie, Kyle, and rogelio were able to leave the Horde together.
We COULD have seen them grow and change and become more than bit characters but that would require this show to cut down on useless filler for a show the production team knows only has 52 episodes. -_-
This show is mostly filler and shipping which is a waste of money. They could have made a better show with less episodes. So many shows have less episode but have done so much more in plot character development and themes. The only people who simp for this show are shippers.

For a group that played at least somewhat important roles in seasons one to four, it's disheartening to see them just left out entirely of the show's final outing save for a single cameo 😟
This series had probably a lot of potential similar to a squeal anime I grew up watching a least this series didn’t have the “protagonist” become the villains henchmen again at the end
We see a repeating theme in this show. They leave so many elements unexplored. This could have been an excellent series. Bad writing and a rush to slam an agenda home makes this a mess of dead end story elements, plot holes and one very expensive poorly written fanfiction.
I really wish these three were in an epilogue or something. I really wanted to know what happened to them and if they were able to be happy together as the true best friend squad.
With Swiftwind he's just a horse who's been exposed to the transformation for too long but with Rogelio he is an individual of a species who quite possibly are able to write and communicate and design complex mechanisms.
not fully related but I hate the names they gave for the characters they added into the series, like come on they just do the most typical everyday names possible (lonnie, kyle, Rogelio) like compare it to some of the old names bow, spinnerella, netossa, frosta there clearly pun based and yeah it may be on the nose but I like jojo and they use literal songs/bands for names but the point is you should have catched on to the naming convention, and even if you didn't use names that sound like they'd be from a futuristic/fantastical world not stuff like Aaron A Aaronson
Lonnie is from the original series but the others are clearly lacking. Replace "Rogelio" with Scales, Gatar, or Camain. Kyle is a bit tricky, (it's actually Bow's real name) but maybe something to reference his last place role in the Horde (I personally have a Kyle-like character named Zed because that's how some people say "Z" but that won't work in She-Ra.) or him being the 'joke' Jester or Quinn maybe?
Well, the thing is most of the MOTU characters have 'normal' names outside of what their hero names are. He-Man is just ADAM. Man of Arms is named DUNCAN and Bow's actually name....IS FUCKING KYLE. YUP.
If I had a time machine and an executive at Netflix, I'd use the Delorean to first, go back and never let Noelle Stevenson near She-Ra; hire you two, and make sure there's no severing of the connection to the rest of the MOTU mythos and lineage. Every time you guys review, you do so while clearly explaining the missed opportunities the writing and production team missed by a landslide. I'd rather pay you guys for content than have what we got shoved in our faces. I wonder how Mattel is enjoying the no toy-sales and the damage to their brand? Maybe not enough given we haven't heard any halt or plug-pulling of the other MOTU stuff that sounds questionable.
The thing is that all the people in the show that look human. Are the descends of the first ones. Thats why they look the same as Adora. She is the only full blooded alien. That mean she isn't a human shes an alien on the planet eatheria. Everything else is the planetary natives. It a magical planet so most of the non-human characters are just the natives.
It is astonishing that Kyle, Lonnie, and Rogelio grew up with these three as well as Catra, but they dont get the same hand extended to them that Catra does, or see Adora seem to care about them at all.
silly child stupid logic or basic reasoning don't matter all that matters is shipping, it doesn't matter if catra has been shown to be a monster or her motivations made redundant the moment adora asked her to come in the first episode we have to see her as the sympathetic character despite literally everything. And things like the show literally had adora realize catra isn't worth saving they'll just backtrack to make the ship happen.
Yeah THIS is why it's bad when a writer has CLEAR, CLEAR!, favoritism for a specific character.

Something interesting about Lonnie, she's technically in the 80s series.
She was Adora's 2nd and her best friend. Adora trusted her enough to respond to a message where Lonnie asked Adora for help leaving the Horde. It turned out to be a trap as the Horde are holding her father hostage and are going to send him to the mines unless Lonnie lures Adora to Beast Island. Obviously, the Horde was lying about setting her father free and she regrets betraying Adora. Righting the wrong Lonnie and her father escape Beast Island with Adora and she joins the Rebellion.
This one off character had a better story in 80s She-Ra than a recurring one in Nu-Ra.
The new team acts like the original characters had no background and personally. Shouldn’t trust the people that haven’t the original when talking about the original

Honestly the writer really missed an opportunity to make Rogelio used sign language to communicated (kinda like General Amaya from the Dragon Prince)

Probably one of the more frustrating aspects of how She-Ra was written was how unfocused it was. Like, if you're not planning on exploring an element of the setting don't spend a bunch of screen time drawing attention to it. You end up both distracting from what's actually supposed to be important and potentially getting people invested in something that's not going to have a payoff.
There was so many chances so many episodes they literally had 5 seasons they even made a little swiftwind shorts if they can't make some actual good writing 😐

“WE we’re your friends!” That one line is very telling, for a show about friendship and bonds this show never really had any genuine ones. The “best friend squad” felt so surface level and forced that it may has well been a shallow high school friend group that falls apart when you graduate to college. And the Horde group was never expanded on besides kicking Kyle down at every moment and the show forcing Catra and she-ra together, the lizard guy and whatever the other girl’s name is were there as props. The only mention of some form of companionship was mentioned off-screen by young Adora in a flashback and all it did was show yet another reason why Catra was awful and needs some mental help, not a romantic relationship with her emotional-punching bag.
Honestly, I hated the Term "Best Friend Squad." It felt so stupid and forced.

It's such a huge misstep that Adora didn't try to convince Lonnie, Kyle, and Rogelio to leave instead of focusing on Catra, who never once wanted to listen to her. Lonnie was the most level headed out of the group and became a much better leader to the team than Catra was. I'm sure Adora could have convinced her that it was the best option for all of them.
Also I really hate the whole "they're all dating each other" thing... like why does everything have to end up being romantic? Can't they just be like a family? Also I think a poly relationship for people who lived their entire lives being emotionally abused is not a good idea.
This show can’t comprehend relationships that aren’t romantic, every “friendship” in this show feels fake.

The lizard should have had SOMETHING TO HIM. Like, no ome understands him? BOOM, he uses hand signals. There, now we can make him have some more character and, the way this show was, he can be representation for mute individuals. His lizard people seem to only exist in the Horde but are rare, kinda like the Scorpions, so he could be part of a conquered people who was taken from his family and has had his entire culture taken away from him and erased as the Horde has wiped out his peoples culture during conquest. That can give him some conflict as he serves the horde, knowing what they've done, giving his coldness some depth. He rarely tries to talk and when he does it gets made into a joke, so, since the Horde, the bad guys I remind you, are a EVIL MILITARY STATE, they might not let him and the rest of his fellow people speak in hand signs unless given specific permission from commanders(who most likely don't know it themselves so never give the clear) literally making him and all lizards voiceless. They could even make it against regulations to let more than one lizard to serve in certain sized units to deprive them of unity or social interaction, making them socially deprived and easier to control for the EVIL Horde. Maybe he doesn't speak up for Kyle or try to stop the others both because he literally can't and that no one would speak up for him. Bonus, it would make the Horde TRULY REPULSIVE if that was the kind of thing they did to other species they conquered and consider less than under Hordak.

In a show about shipping? No way, that would take away from the shipping.
It could also set up a heartwarming characteristic of the Horde trio. We could find out that Loni and Kyle learned the sign language, either behind their commanders’ backs or under an excuse of “well, what if he needs to report something to us in the field?”, so they could understand their lizard friend when he “speaks”. Plus, once they leave the Horde, you could show them keeping a look out for any book or artifact from Rodego’s culture, since they know there is so little left of his whole civilization.
Rogelio, Lonnie, and Kyle should have been the main characters of the show and adora, bow, and glimmer should have been villains tbh. They're just a lot more interesting than the "bff squad", and while they have little backstory, they had soooo much potential with their character arcs. Talk about a waste!

One of my biggest thoughts about this aspect of the plot was why Adora never really warmed up to Kyle. The other kids seemed at most indifferent towards her, and Catra actively attacks her when she tries to be too close to her, so it’s surprising that she didn’t develop a stronger connection with Kyle since they both feel like outsiders, and I doubt he would reject her kindness.
True. However, if they get too close and too relatable, people could ship them. Catradora was always endgame, and we ALL KNOW heterosexuality doesn't exist in this show.

TLA had an episode where Zuko, Azula, and their friends had a beach episode. That episode saw how, for lack of a better term, outside they were for their ages and among their own people. She-Ra claims to be inspired by TLA, but never seemed to have taken anything of value from it

The problem is that Kyle wouldn't be a wimp as a soldier. He'd either have bulked up (even if he was short) or died. This is how people use child soldiers. It's not nice and happy and light. This is not the sort of this thing you want to use in a kid's show, for any reason.
This show has so many potential characters and failed to utilize practically all of them. Either it be some of the princess, side characters or even like the horde members here. It is just clear that Noelle and others just did not care and shows by not only their poor writing, but their very poor use of characters.
They cared about shipping and mommy issues but I can’t say they cared about much else.

The Horde Kids had so much Potential in the Story. It's a Shame they never got the Focus they deserve.
I think I would have rewritten them like this:
*Rogelio* : He was a bit of an Older Brother-Figure for the Group and sometimes helped Adora take care of the others.
Later became the Muscle of their Team.
Because he was mute, the other Kids didn't understand him at first, but managed to develop a Sign Language to communicate. Even Catra can use it, although she was always pretty bad at it-which led to an Inside Joke about her having a "Speech Impediment".
*Lonnie* : Where Catra and Adora are Melee Specialists, Lonnie is pretty talented with a Rifle (let's just pretend for a Moment the Horde used Weapons beside Electro Batons). She is a perfectly good Soldier, but was never quite as good as Adora or Catra.
*Kyle* : Kyle is small, weak, and not the best Fighter, which is why he often got bullied by the other Cadets and Catra.
What he lacks in Strength however, he makes up in technical Knowhow. He knows how to repair most Machines or how to sabotage them....which is an Ability that comes in handy when the Team fakes their Deaths and Kyle rigs their Vehicle to explode to cover their Tracks.
He also has a high Tolerance to Pain from Years of getting bullied and accidentally electrocuting himself a few Times.
See writers, a few more sentences devoted to each character, and their characterization is both vastly fleshed out and more interesting. Also, plus 1 vote for the Trio faking their deaths in the forest episode, and getting some freedom earlier instead of going back to Catra’s meltdown. I would also add Kyle’s ability being used later to royally screw over the Horde by crippling their robot production, even if only temporally. Bonus points if he does it in a way the frames Catra for it.

Kyle gets treated much more fairly in my Version. Bow actually offers him the Chance to come with them to Bright Moon, and while it is an incredibly tempting Offer, he decides to stay.
He wants to convince Lonnie and Rogelio to come with him. Despite everything, he can't just abandon them.
Adora warns him that, if he stays, Hordak might find out that he was the one who released Bow from Prison, but Kyle is willing to take the Risk.

On paper, the Reboot is *amazing* ! I truly believe that this could have been an awesome Show. Maybe not the next Avatar or Gravity Fall, but definitely something good.

I actually set myself a bit of a Challenge:
Tell my Version of She-Ra, with all the...."updated" Characters in the same amount of Episodes.
So far, it doesn't look too bad, if I'm honest.
Scorpia is still very friendly, but also a legitimate Badass that loves fighting- instead of Catra.
Mermista actually cares about her People and her Kingdom, to the point where she would rather go down with it than give it up.
Hordak and Entrapta are kindred Souls:
Brilliant Scientists that do not really care about their Underlings, and who are stuck on a Backwater Planet full of People that don't appreciate their Genius.
There won't be any shipping or romance, except for maybe between the already established couples:
Mermista and Seahawk, Nettossa and Spinerella and Lance and George.
Also, I fully intent on actually *using* the Idea that Bow has so many Brothers.
(Seriously, Stevenson. Why establish the Fact and then never bring them up again? Were the other Kids just a Figment of Lance and George's Imagination?!?)
Fun fact: Lonnie is played by the same save VA who voiced Claire in Motorcity, a character I love an a show that I loved that did the whole 'diversity' thing better than this.
But on that, this is why props goes to the OG show using only small number of human characters on the Horde side and focusing on them when needed. For the most part, the Horde army were robots which was done for 'safety' reasons when it came to moral guardians but one upside to the part of your enemy characters being non-human is that you can kill as many as you want and in various ways.
Kyle, Lonnie and Rogelio however don't exist for any other reason other than superficial ones. We already know the deal with Kyle, him being a shallow punching back for Noelle and her crew's revenge fantasy, while Lonnie is 'Brown girl 1' and Rogelio is alien kid. In a better show, they would be apart of the Horde main baddies, each with a more unique aspect about them outside their gender and HUMAN race (cutting Regelio a bit of slack here because alien lizards are always cool) much like Scorpia and the original Entrapta, both being ladies with physical gimmicks but also having another purpose, serving as the tech and a fighter. If they wanted to do something with the three, that sort of dynamic could have been set up.
Rogelio could have been the Beastmaster of the show, being physically strong and intelligent to his own character but also have the ability to handle (and control) various hunting animals as well as rare species the Horde would want to exploit for their powers. Imagine if things were handled better, Rogelio could have captured Swiftwing and tried to use his powers or they could have also found the lizard they mutated and turned it into an anti-Swiftwind with Rogelio being able to communicate with it due to them being close to the same species.
Lonnie could have been the ORIGINAL tech expert on the team and have massive jealousy for Entrapta when Hordak gets her and finds that she is also a genious but unlike Lonnie may be willing to do certain things or h values her more for knowing more secrets about She-Ra that Lonnie was not able to figure out. If the idea was to keep Entrapa on the good side, Lonnie making tech to fight against her would have been great and even more, had they kept Shadowweaver on board longer, Lonnie could have gone to her for an unwilling 'partnership' to combine dark magic with tech like how things sort of worked with She-Ra to increase her powers, possible leading up to her failure.
And we already know about Kyle. Kyle works as the character that eventually turns to the side of good as he reminds me of the character that Glimmer falls in love with who was a member of the Horde but despite her love she QUESTIONS him about his willingness to join but also LISTENS to him which is the important factor. In a better show, it wouldn't have been Bow and Glimmer but Glimmer and Kyle but I mean that if we made Glimmer a better character as well. The way she is now, being with her is a punishment more than a reward.
At the end of the day, these three deserved 'better' but that goes so far when we're talking about a show who's main intention was never to entertain a stable fanbse, but just Noelle venting to the one she already had but with the skin of a new series that she had no hand in creating.
I personally prefer Lonnie is the Beastmaster role. Mostly because in her sole appearance in the original had them befriending a Dino/dragon and I love the idea of Lonnie adopting it.

@@CoolG97 Hell, we could have had an episode where in the middle of the 'war', the BFS run into Kyle and the others while some of the BFS are injured and the first one who tries to help is Kyle. Of course, Glimmer and Bow try to force him back because 'they don't trust him' but in a moment of actual character development, Adora could stop them and tell them that Kyle DOES know how to treat and help with injuries, both physical and magical. It COULD have been a start on some redemption and character building but NOPE.

You guys always present such interesting analyses and alternate takes on the Princesses of Power characters. They sound much more compelling that what I've heard and seen in the show (I've mostly seen your videos and only a few actual episodes to be honest). I wish to see a video on what went wrong with Catra's arc and how it could have been done better.

I would have been happy with even just exploring *any* relationship they had with each other in the horde. Were they neutral to each other, with Adora’s commander training keeping her away from them except for meals and training exercises? Were the horde trio hostile/cold to her, either because of the favoritism Shadow Weaver gave her or because Adora wouldn’t listen when they tried to warn her about some of her “mother’s” tactics? They could have pretty much done anything, but instead we got mostly nothing.

I liked the show when i watched it but the more i think of it after, the more i go "oh man, this really did suck". Of course, doesn't help that Catra is a HUGE trigger for me (reminds me of someone who did horrible things blah blah ptsd). There were so many different things they could have done but they didn't. Plus, considering most characters are self-inserts, eh??? Its really unprofessional
Don’t worry, Catra rings all kinds of alarm bells, even for people without PTSD. Especially the more people think back over her character arc. I can only imagine that she is like a bad ghost given form for people who have lived through a relationship like how she treats Adora and everyone around her. Especially since the story very obviously does *not* call her out on her tactics.
I feel like Kyle would be a great character to be the one character that understands Rohelio [or however you spell his name]...kinda like Raph from Transformers Prime being the only human to be able to understand Bumblebee.
Those three could have made a way better spin-off show or something.

Something that always bugged me about this show, and these Horde kids are a part of that, is how the Horde even formed in the first place. If life is so miserable in the Horde and everyone knows it down to the children raised in it then how did Hordak build an army in the first place? Overwhelming power can go a long way to getting you supporters but Hordak's tech, especially before the recruitment of Entrapta, isn't strong enough to tackle the teenage princesses and their powers and early on he would have been fighting Queens who had full mastery of theirs. He managed to get some kind diplomatic deal going with the Scorpion people but that shouldn't have worked out either since the Black Garnet would have given the Queen of the Scorpion people more then enough might to fight off the early Horde.
This all ties back into another aspect of the Horde kiddos that's underutilized; their status as lifelong Horde members that aren't Adora. They would have been a really useful tool to explain the history of the Horde and the benefits that made joining it in the early stages seem like a better deal than sticking with the established kingdoms. Kyle and the Cadet kids are a valuable window into the motivations of the Horde outside of the one or two people at the top but they're too busy being used as punching bags to tell us anything.
Original had it so the planet was just overwhelmed by the Horde, they had more firepower and Etheria is more magic over tech.
Much like a lot of other things that doesn't exist anymore and just raises more questions.

@@CoolG97 exactly. In the original, Etheria was a sword & sorcery world and The Horde arrived with their tech and their numbers that could match up and sometimes defeat magic users. Many magic users died or were captured by the Horde and sent off somewhere. Or like how The Horde teamed up with the harpies of Talon Mountain to finally topple Queen Angella and King Micah to take over Brightmoon. But fighting all of those magicians left the horde depleted, which is why they can't move on Mystacor.
But nah!!! Scrap all that lore! Etheria is now a tech-based magic planet! And the first ones were just going to blow the planet up as a weapon against Horde Prime!

Some parts of Etheria still didn't take the Horde seriously. Silneas thought the Horde wasn't a problem because they were underwater (a mermaid kingdom UNDERWATER well that's silly) but then came a submarine.
Nope all gone, the Horde having a literal galaxy of resources? Nope, only this single planet. And frankly Nu-Etheria is just stupid, it's not magic it's tech wait no there is magic but it's blocked by the tech.
Old Etheria was simple, fire beings gave people magic and now chill in the planets core waiting for someone to ask fo the strength they had all along.

Why is she the only Indian-coded character and nothing else about Salinas seems inspired by India? Why is she a girl that can become a mermaid instead of a mermaid that can become a human?
What about this show that didn't fall flat? Incompetence only ever displays incompetence, that's why everything interesting we could have got, never happened and everything that was dumb, was brought to the forefront!
The whole show is a missed opportunity, this could have been on par with He-Man 200X, or the 2012 ThunderCats reboot, or even the Voltron shows, only problem was, they got the worst possible team to bring it to fruition and all we got was a comedy scene that wasn't funny, interesting and went on for far too long!

I have been working on my own outline for the show with the same number of episodes and coming up with arcs for both the princess characters and the Horde characters.
Here's how I would have done Rogelio’s arc:
Season 1:
Rogelio can do anything that a lizard can (inspired by Tsuyu Asui from My Hero Academia), but he keeps his abilities to himself because he doesn’t want to be treated differently by his teammates. Throughout the series, situations keep happening that force him to use his abilities, and his teammates prove that they don’t care about that. Rogelio’s abilities include: Moving his eyeballs independently in order to see in two different directions at the same time, which gives him a 360-degree view around himself. Using his tongue to smell, catching scents in the air, and then taste them in his mouth. Shooting his tongue out far and super-fast. Detaching his tail and re-growing it later. Wrapping his tail around things to help with climbing. Holding his breath for half an hour. Walking on water, as long as he stays up to speed, about 5 feet per second. Changing the color of his skin, using color swaps to regulate his body temperature.
Rogelio is in a relationship with Kyle and they have been in a relationship since before the start of the series, but they are keeping it a secret from Shadow Weaver. Lonnie, Adora, and Catra know. (Shadow Weaver knows too, but she’s using her knowledge to manipulate them.)
Rogelio can speak normally, like Catra (but when he is upset or frustrated, he speaks using guttural speech sounds (grunting)) Rogelio has put everything he has into blending in, the opposite of Catra who has put everything she has into standing out.
After Adora leaves, Catra, Lonnie, Kyle, and Rogelio form a She-Ra retrieval team under Force Captain Octavia. Rogelio doesn’t want to deal with the fact that Adora left. He becomes unresponsive to conversations about her, and he clings harder to his remaining teammates, struggling to keep the peace between them. During meetings where they discuss their plans to capture Adora, Rogelio always seems anxious, and usually plays with his cup and ball, during the meetings and not participating in discussions.
After he sees She-Ra in action for the first time (Usually it’s he and Lonnie vs Netossa and Spinderella), Rogelio becomes a bit closed off. He refuses to believe that they will get Adora back and doesn’t see the point in trying. This causes Kyle and Lonnie to becomes frustrated with him.
Rogelio wasn’t as close with Adora as Catra or Lonnie, but they did have a pretty strong friendship. Adora was the only one on the squad who understood him when he talked in grunts, and she often snuck him bugs and small animals when she snuck out of the fright zone with Catra (Rations make him sick, so he usually looks for food elsewhere in the fright zone.)
Rogelio has a habit of eating when he’s stressed, and he uses food as a comfort. He starts eating a lot more after Adora leaves. Kyle wants to talk to Rogelio about his feelings about Adora and his unhappiness in the Horde. Rogelio is usually the mediator and counselor of the team, mostly having to keep Lonnie and Catra from fighting, but he can’t seem to handle conversations about Adora, and whenever Kyle tries to bring up the idea of them leaving too, Rogelio shuts him down.
Rogelio is devastated when Kyle helps Bow escape and runs off with the rebellion.
Season 2:
Catra is now Force Captain and is put in charge of Lonnie, Rogelio, and Entrapta. Rogelio doesn’t respect Catra as a leader, so he doesn’t really listen to her. Rogelio takes Kyle’s abandonment hard and blames himself. He retreats into himself and checks out.
We get a flashback of Kyle asking Rogelio out, and of a couple of happier moments between them. We find out Rogelio’s backstory: Rogelio grew up in a small village on the outskirts of the fright zone. He and his mother were mistreated for their appearance, and none of the children in the village liked him. After his mother passed away, Rogelio was homeless in the village and no one would take him in. When the Horde invaded the town, Shadow Weaver took him in and brought him to the fright zone. There he met Kyle, Lonnie, and Catra. He quickly became best friends with Lonnie and Kyle. (Rogelio didn’t meet Adora until he was 12. Catra didn’t really like him when they were young.)
Lonnie eventually gets sick of Rogelio’s wallowing and manages to get him to open up about his feelings. They both wonder if they were responsible for driving him away (Lonnie worries it was her teasing, while Rogelio wonders if it was his refusal to listen to what Kyle was saying.). Lonnie promises that she won’t leave and the two promise to be there for each other, even if that means putting up with Catra.
Entrapta makes Rogelio uncomfortable, since she seems curious about his lizard abilities and keeps messing with him
During confrontations with She-Ra and her squad, Rogelio tries his best to stay away from Kyle. Kyle does try to talk to him about it. Rogelio stops him from apologizing, he asks Kyle if he’s happy. Kyle says that he and that he’s finally found where he belongs. Rogelio says that’s all that matters. Kyle hugs him and then they go their separate ways.
Rogelio notices that Catra is stressed by her role as force captain and he tries to talk to her. Catra snaps at him and that’s the last attempted conversation they have this season.
At the end of the season, Catra is sent to the crimson waste.
Rogelio is shell-shocked at the loss of another teammate.
Season 3:
While Catra is in the crimson waste, Lonnie, Rogelio, and Entrapta are the only members of the She-Ra retrieval team left. Lonnie is made Force Captain. Lonnie does her best to take charge, while Rogelio is just numb. Rogelio clings very tightly to Lonnie this season and seems to become like her shadow. It causes tension between him and Lonnie.
She voices an idea and Rogelio instantly agrees. She trains, and Rogelio will sit nearby, snacking on something that he found. She snaps at Rogelio and he just takes. Lonnie becomes disillusioned with the horde, realizing that her position as Force Captain hasn’t actually affected anything. Lonnie is struggling to cover her basis, worried that if she fails to capture Adora, she will be fired like Octavia, or shipped off to Beast Island like Catra.
Lonnie becomes a shorter fuse, and, as she feels the walls closing in on her, she broaches the idea of leaving with Rogelio. Rogelio quietly askes Lonnie if she’s going to break her promise. Lonnie tells Rogelio to wake up, and that the Horde doesn’t care about them. She says that if they leave, then they can stay together. Rogelio doesn’t respond and Lonnie walks away. When Rogelio goes looking for her, Lonnie is gone.
Rogelio doesn’t tell anyone that Lonnie is gone and tries to keep it a secret. Hordak eventually figures it out and bring Rogelio to his chambers to confront/punish him. Luckily, Catra returns, having captured Adora. Things take a turn when Catra has Entrapta sent to Beast Island and pulls the switch on the portal in the season 3 finale.
It turns out that Catra and Rogelio’s idea of a dream world is the same: All of them together in the fright zone.
Season 4:
Catra and Rogelio are the only ones left. Catra is racked with guilt over her actions in the finale. Catra tries to take out her feelings on Rogelio and starts to push harder, while Rogelio starts to increasingly shut down. Rogelio becomes unresponsive, pushing Catra away. Catra becomes more aggressive and belligerent and Rogelio responds by not responding. This causes Catra to snap at Rogelio to leave, and Rogelio snaps for the first time in the series, raising his voice. He lets her know that she wasn’t the only one who was abandoned and that he also lost everyone. He lets her know that he isn’t going anywhere and that no matter how she treats him, she won’t drive him away from the only place that’s ever felt like home to him.
Catra and Rogelio’s relationship begins to improve after that. Rogelio and Catra are both the only members of their squad who are animal-like in nature. As such, Rogelio felt a connection to Catra, but their difference in handling their appearances put a bit of a rift between them. Rogelio has always admired Catra’s self-confidence and admits that he enjoyed her brashness. Rogelio becomes like a safe harbor to Catra, someone she can let her guard down around and relax.
Catra lets Rogelio know her intentions to rescue Entrapta from Beast Island. She asks Rogelio to cover for her, and he agrees. When Catra returns to the Horde with Kyle and Meelog instead of Entrapta, Rogelio is surprised but pleased. Kyle and Rogelio make up. Lonnie also returns, with information on how to take down Hordak. Over the course of the season, they formulate a plan to take down Hordak, Meelog keeps the Imp away from them.
In the finale, Catra faces Hordak, aided by Rogelio, Kyle, and Lonnie. Rogelio goes all out, using his lizard abilities without fear.
Season 5
Rogelio, Lonnie, Kyle, and Scorpia have joined the rebellion. Rogelio is struggling at first to adjust to living outside of the fright zone and feels uncomfortable around the members of the rebellion. They treat him kindly though, and Rogelio eventually stops wearing his Horde uniform and changes into something more similar to the rebellion’s style.
In the finale, Rogelio, Kyle, Lonnie, and Catra are all together. Scorpia lets them know that they are always welcome in the Fright Zone (her kingdom, now that Hordak and Horde Prime are gone.) Rogelio reveals that he and Kyle are going to travel and see what the world has to offer.

Also, Rogelio’s animation is terrible in his face when he does his speech, his eyes keep shifting and the animators don’t seem to know where his eyes are placed and how far they are apart. It makes his face look thin and wide every second 3:07

I've been wanting to write a She Ra fanfic where I start over and give some characters from this reboot the attention and potential they deserve, but now that I'm back in college, it's hard to find time. I can at least work on ideas for it, though. Here's what I'd do for the Horde trio:
So they all grew up in the Horde with Adora, and they're all friends. I want to make them all adept fighters and give them individualized weapons. For Kyle's mistreatment, I'm changing things around. He is actually a good fighter, but when sent on his first mission, he can't bring himself to hurt or kill innocent people. He isn't killed, but he is now disgraced among his fellow soldiers. Everyone mocks him, even Lonnie, with Rogelio and Adora being the only ones who don't give him crap. After Adora leaves, we can see how hurt the trio is after Adora leaves. For Bow, have him actually listen and sympathize with Kyle's story. He invites Kyle to the Rebellion and he becomes a double agent in the Horde for a bit. Eventually, Lonnie finds out about this and his also hurt by his betrayal. Kyle asks her while she always bullies him, and she says she didn't want to be ostracized and bullied as well. After tearfully apologizing, Lonnie is invited by Kyle to leave with him and join the Rebellion. She agrees, but the two are stopped by Rogelio. However, he overheard the whole thing and is coming along too. The 3 make the trek until they reach Bright Moon. Adora reunites with them, apologizes for not helping them sooner, and invites them to the Rebellion. Also, we can also have the trio join missions with the Princesses and other members (Bow, Seahawk) so they can gain their trust and becomes their friends too.

a while back I had an interesting idea for how some of the horde soldiers could have joined which also could show some world building, maybe instead of the horde abusing them all there life it was one of the kingdoms, they lived under a corrupt king, lived in squalor and in the end it created a "some men only want to watch the world burn" who accepts the cruelty of the horde because it wasn't the cruelty of the kingdoms , it may be a simple thing but it would have given some characterization to the cadets, provided some worldbuilding showing there are some corrupt kingdoms and gives motivation to the protagonist (aka the princess who will lead kingdoms) in doing good inside there kingdoms which for this shows worth could just be set pieces with how little importance they have
Those two really didn't make any impact. Unlike Kyle who the show tried to make the punch line which had the opposite effect of making him endearing. They were just kind of there and forgettable which the show even points out with Adora not even caring about leaving them. Even the drama like Lonnie and Adora, there was really no connection since the _show_ only _told,_ which is never good. They were only relevant when plot tried to make them when the showrunners remembered they were characters. I honestly don't even remember their names until they're said. Their only real use the show cared about with them was shipping fodder, when Kyle wasn't canon fodder.
Kyle is only known because people call his name when something bad happens like “way to go KYLE!” or “let’s blame KYLE!” the other two are pretty much the lizard guy and not catra.
Lonnie only matters because she's BROWN.

Its... honestly still amazing to me, the fact that this show has remained relevant in popular culture, even has multiple entries in tv-tropes, I guess.... people really don't care how badly written something is as long as it gives them the basics and some breadcrumbs of good ideas.

It would be funny how much missed potential there was writting wise if it wasn't sad. They got 50 episodes approved since the beggining and couldn't make a cohesive world with that. Instead they spent so much of that time in fller and rushing arcs.
Now the original She-Ra was episodic and yet it fleshed it's world in a more natural way, and had stonger character moments for secondary characters, they were competent. So the new she-ra staff has no grounds to call names the original show when they couldn't be competent enought to make something great with what they had.
You two hit the nail in the coffin on my thoughts on the hole thing. I honestly for me it would have been cool to see kyle,rogelio and lonnie along side double trouble actually being a team and go to there own thing. But that’s just me
Imagine if She-ra had the entire first season with Adora in the Horde. It would be an entire season to see Adora’s life and relationship with people of the horde. An entire season of her seeing the war from the horde’s perspective and seeing her internal conflict with what she knows it’s requested of her and what she thinks it’s the right thing to do. An entire season of Adora going on missions against the rebellion while she sees all the destruction and pain her side is causing before making the decision to leave. It would make much more sense if her decision to leave the horde was made after more deliberation from her part. Leaving everybody and everything she knows is a big deal. Also, it would be an opportunity for Glimmer to start gaining respect from her mother entirely by herself without the help of She-ra. And then the season finale had Adora switching sides and becoming she-ra for the first time.
Is it possible that if you go back to She ra, you can talk about the relationship between Adora and Catra as couple and the awkward abusive parents allusions they both have with Shadow Weaver when the other horde kids didn't
It's quite telling of the show's priorities that they said on twitter that these three ended up in a joined relationship. I'm not a fan of the resolution, but hell, I would have taken that being setup and developed in the show over what we got, because that's at least something.

Adora could have led a rebellion to get a bunch of horde kids out of the horde. I’m pretty sure the OG adora/she-ra did this in season 1, only it was people of etheria that hordak had enslaved and was then sucking the life out of.
You know if you ask me I feel like this she ra would be interesting if we saw stories and characters of people who weren’t from the past show a bit and characters from the sides like characters effected by the war and characters who are soldiers for the horde and resistance kinda of like Star Wars the clone wars with the clones I love it when stories focus on minor characters more and it could show just how much more of an impact and how important the war really has on others but sadly they didn’t
There were only mostly flashbacks of Catra hurting someone and catra not get her away though the "show" Even a episode at the end of the series trying to redeem a character she scratches the side of a Adora's cheek just because Lonnie is talking to her. Like Wow so no one sees how out Control she is and how a abusive she as a person😐

They deserved so much more, the lack of the Horde kid trio in S5 was a major bummer not going to lie but I understand why other things got the spotlight instead. If we do get any additional material I hope to God we get to see more of them.

Lonnie in particular could have been better utilized in the series as well as her relationship with Adora. I am at least glad that Lonnie, Kyle, and rogelio were able to leave the Horde together.
We COULD have seen them grow and change and become more than bit characters but that would require this show to cut down on useless filler for a show the production team knows only has 52 episodes. -_-
This show is mostly filler and shipping which is a waste of money. They could have made a better show with less episodes. So many shows have less episode but have done so much more in plot character development and themes. The only people who simp for this show are shippers.

For a group that played at least somewhat important roles in seasons one to four, it's disheartening to see them just left out entirely of the show's final outing save for a single cameo 😟

This series had probably a lot of potential similar to a squeal anime I grew up watching a least this series didn’t have the “protagonist” become the villains henchmen again at the end
We see a repeating theme in this show. They leave so many elements unexplored. This could have been an excellent series. Bad writing and a rush to slam an agenda home makes this a mess of dead end story elements, plot holes and one very expensive poorly written fanfiction.
I really wish these three were in an epilogue or something. I really wanted to know what happened to them and if they were able to be happy together as the true best friend squad.
Seriously one off characters from the original series got better treatment then this trio.

With Swiftwind he's just a horse who's been exposed to the transformation for too long but with Rogelio he is an individual of a species who quite possibly are able to write and communicate and design complex mechanisms.

not fully related but I hate the names they gave for the characters they added into the series, like come on they just do the most typical everyday names possible (lonnie, kyle, Rogelio) like compare it to some of the old names bow, spinnerella, netossa, frosta there clearly pun based and yeah it may be on the nose but I like jojo and they use literal songs/bands for names but the point is you should have catched on to the naming convention, and even if you didn't use names that sound like they'd be from a futuristic/fantastical world not stuff like Aaron A Aaronson
To be frank, Lonnie is actually from the OG series as a one off character.

Replace "Rogelio" with Scales, Gatar, or Camain. Kyle is a bit tricky, (it's actually Bow's real name) but maybe something to reference his last place role in the Horde (I personally have a Kyle-like character named Zed because that's how some people say "Z" but that won't work in She-Ra.) or him being the 'joke' Jester or Quinn maybe?

Well, the thing is most of the MOTU characters have 'normal' names outside of what their hero names are. He-Man is just ADAM. Man of Arms is named DUNCAN and Bow's actually name....IS FUCKING KYLE.

If I had a time machine and an executive at Netflix, I'd use the Delorean to first, go back and never let Noelle Stevenson near She-Ra; hire you two, and make sure there's no severing of the connection to the rest of the MOTU mythos and lineage.
Every time you guys review, you do so while clearly explaining the missed opportunities the writing and production team missed by a landslide. I'd rather pay you guys for content than have what we got shoved in our faces.

The thing is that all the people in the show that look human. Are the descends of the first ones. Thats why they look the same as Adora. She is the only full blooded alien.
That mean she isn't a human shes an alien on the planet eatheria. Everything else is the planetary natives. It a magical planet so most of the non-human characters are just the natives.
