This Sonata by the relatively unknown composer Sergei Lyapunov (brother of the famous Mathematician) is almost completely absent from the repertory of pianists, despite being a very well written and beautiful piece. Its one movement form is based on the sonate from Liszt, combining three movements in one, within the structure of the sonata form. It's length (about a half hour) and pianotechnique also remind of Liszt, with it's octaves, fingerruns and contrast between the almost pompous fortissimos and religious contemplating passages. The musical melodies however are very russian in tone. The long neverending melodies evoke the wide russian landscapes, with a dramatic almost martial main theme, and the russian orthodox chanting in the middle part.
This performance isn't perfect yet, but I wanted to share it anyway to show this wonderful piece to the world.

C'est une très belle oeuvre, trop rarement jouée, de même que l'ensemble de l'oeuvre de Lyapunov. Merci de nous en faire profiter ! Et Bravo !
