      Thanks, Clive! 🙏It was such a beautiful day - but don’t bike up the Gold dust trail haha . The normal route would be much better (we shouldn’t have followed the race GPX as northbound bikers)! 😂

    I just finished bing watching this series of videos. Awsome your filming really gives as sense of the trail and the grind, the ups and downs I have seen a number documentaries of the Great Divide but this shows a better Idea of what it is like. I am a Colorado native and know the routs you are riding and you two are killing it. Fred I was so glad you weren't seriously injured in your crash, just be careful when in the tight areas and don't worry about filming.

    Thank you for another fun video! I rode through Como southbound on the GDMBR in August 2021 and stumbled into the "Como Hospitality Bunkhouse," where bikepackers can stay. It's a white 2 car garage converted into a "bunkhouse," with a fully stocked kitchen, shower, bathroom, beds, couches, entertainment center, and even a massage lounge chair! It appears at 17:35 on your video, with its door open and 2 cars in the driveway. It's relatively new and hopefully will appear on the ACA maps soon! As it turned out, you two didn't need it, as you rode all the way to Breckenridge! Big day! Maybe your viewers would appreciate that info. Cheers!

      Do you know how to get in contact with the bunk house?

    • @craiggroseth2032
      @craiggroseth2032 2 года назад +1

      @@leebarrett4709 No, I do not. A man and a woman (Jeff & Colleen) were working on the white house next door to the bunkhouse when I rolled into Como. I asked him where the Community Center was (where the ACA maps say you can camp). Jeff said, "Sure, you can camp next to that building and use an outhouse. Or you can stay in our bunkhouse for free." He added that everything worked, but the bunkhouse was full of stuff, as they're storing furniture inside while remodeling the house. They planned to open both in 2022. Unfortunately, I did not get their last names.

      That is great info. I guess we also didn’t try hard enough to find shelter. I thought we were still in good shape to make it to Breckenridge 😜

    Tough conditions but you were well-prepared for it! I hiked Collegiate Peaks many years ago and remember this area, including Buena Vista. This was a great look at the forest trails.
    Are you digital nomads or something? It is great that you can bike so many days of the year and don't have to go into the office!

    • @MarionandFred
      @MarionandFred  2 года назад

      Hi Marc, would love to hike the area too. Beautiful (my favorite word on the Divide 🤩)! No digital nomads 😜 We reached 10 year anniversary and took a month unpaid leave…gave us a lot of energy!

      @@MarionandFred that’s terrific. And now, with your wonderful videos, others can enjoy it too. I got to see things I would have not been able to see.

    Wow, that was one of the most memorable days on the Divide! Incredible scenery!!! Gold dust trail is beautiful, but really only for downhill (kind of obvious, but we just followed the race GPX 😂). The regular way up is best for northbounders.

    • @rneillmojo
      @rneillmojo 2 года назад

      Well the gpx is correct but there is a written addendum that states gold dust trail is only used by sobo

  • @yumyumhungry
    @yumyumhungry 2 года назад +2

    Gold Dust trail is one of the parts I'm fearing going SObo, because of my lack of technical skills

    • @marionkuhn6139
      @marionkuhn6139 2 года назад

      You can do it if I can do it (with some walking 😂) Otherwise you could just take the regular route (it’s a gravel road, looks neat). It’s right next to the gold dust trail so really not a big deal to skip the single track…or walk the sketchy sections…

    Another fabulous video. When you ride out of Hartsel is that Highway 24 with all the traffic? I heard that is a pretty dicey road. There is a detour. Did you take it?

    • @MarionandFred
      @MarionandFred  2 года назад +1

      Thank you Bret! Exactly, that is Hwy 24. And you can see the traffic in the video. It’s only 4-5 miles and then you get back on gravel. You can see it well when you klick the Strava link and zoom in. We did not take any detour. It was a little scary, but short. Probably the most traffic we ever encountered on the entire Great Divide 😜

    • @marionkuhn6139

      Thanks, Brett! Big trucks on that section too… but it was very short!

    Woo, big day, 14 hours elapsed time. As soon as I saw Marrion struggling with the bike in Salida I thought Fred is in trouble here, a kiss sorted things out, a nice touch. I have a question, which weather app were you using?

    • @MarionandFred
      @MarionandFred  2 года назад

      You are so right! Was a rough day. Decision point was Como. We did not really find shelter, maybe didn’t try hard enough. Didn’t want to camp in the rain - after such hard days we got a different perspective. And also got a little intimidated by the Ovando bear attack. I said to Marion let’s make it to Breckenridge and get a hotel, and take a rest day. I had not thought of the Gold Dust hike a bike….puuuh…. Weather app we used Windy.app - really great forecast for wind - which is important for some of the longer stretches in the plains - you ll see when we get to the Great Basin ;)
