Unbelievable country. Super fast, futuristic, clean, and so much respect and manners! The attendant actually looked back and bowed to the passengers!! That is unheard of anywhere else. I love Japan, and I cannot wait to visit the most advanced country on earth one day! :)
7:00 Beauty of well trained employees. They can export the train but they can't export that politeness. Did you notice nobody was even paying attention?
Almost sounds like an aircraft, speeding up, then slowing down for the next stop. Still in awe of the smoothness of the Shinkansen; and the professionalism of the crew aboard. Much respect and thanks.
What professionalism! That attendant @ 06:34 ; not there to give crap; not to give herself prestige ; not to take crap; All I can say, I wish most government departments had this attitude
Ben in China that would be wrong to claim that Japanese people are polite because they are well paid. Throughout Asia, customer service is really important and there lies the major difference with the West.
I like going back to Japan again and again, sightseeing is very enjoyable, nature, temples/shrine, the harmony of modern and ancient, and Japanese women.
At around 5:56 p.m. on October 23, 2004, a direct earthquake of magnitude 6.8 occurred in Niigata Prefecture. A total of eight cars, except for No. 7 and No. 6, of the "Toki No. 325" train from Tokyo to Niigata, which was running in a 10-car formation between Urasa and Nagaoka stations of the Joetsu Shinkansen near the epicenter, derailed. At the time of the earthquake, the train was traveling at a speed of about 200 km/h. The emergency brakes of the early earthquake detection and warning system were activated, and the train came to a stop about 1.6 km from the derailment point. There were no casualties among the 155 passengers and crew on board.
I recently went on a 10 day holiday to Japan, and I didn't want to come home! The hospitality was fantastic, the people friendly and polite, and everything was spotless! We traveled a lot on the shinkansen, and listening to the announcements on this video brings back fond memories!
After going through comment section, I would like to visit Japanese atleast once in my lifetime, not just to experience these bullet trains but to experience Japanese politeness and respect...
Having just came back from Japan for the first time, I can vouch for how amazing the Shinkansen is. They perform as great as they look - super fast, quiet, and very comfortable (ample leg room). Did the Tokyo to Osaka express line (Hikari) which took just over 3 hrs. Yes, the Shinkansen is not cheap, but bought a 7 day rail pass for about $US300 and trust me it's great value with unlimited travel on Shinkansen, JR network (short distance) and airport rail. You will be doing lots of train trips to get around in Japan. It's truly a fabulous and interesting place with such polite and respectful people!
Thanks a lot for posting a clip featuring the excellent ride of the Nozomi Superexpress. I hope that I will be a passenger on the bullet train again before long.
This is a great video. You have captured just what it is like on the fantastic Shinkansen. Much better of course to actually be on it, but it brings back so many memories. Many Thanks. Brian. New Zealand.
Oh makes me homesick for my home away from home but less then 3 weeks to go and will be there again enjoying all that Japan has to offer including Shinkansen!
sam witwicky Was fabulous as always. This year went from Tokyo to Kagoshima in the south end of Japan and had a wonderful ride as always!!! I think next year when back we're going to try out the new train and experience that one!!
When I went to Japan, I always go to everywhere by train. I remember at ride chikatetsu densha.., and my favorite destination is Osu-kanon Lol.. Someday I will go to Japan again with my family (I hope..)..
Wow so cool! Thanks for posting this up for us to see! I always wanted to know what it's like riding the Shinkansen so thanks for that! I didn't wanted it to end lol
Motors, actually. But I know what you mean. Only a train lover knows what this means. And the clacking of the wheel boogies as they roll from one set of rails to the next unwelded set of rails. As Neil Diamond sang long back, "What a beautiful noise".
Sat in one from Tokyo to Osaka. Cabin was damn cosy, had a nice bento meal during the ride and enjoyed a short nap and waking up shortly to beautiful scenery on route. Only in Japan 😍😍😍
Superb! The speeding outside view sure make me dizzy. Wow! Such clean and tidy trains and very disciplined people. They do deserve such a neat and smart railway system.
Sneeki Breeki It's almost impossible to exect it from the stupid and meek Japanes government. Japan has changed so much. Fifity years ago, Japan was totally differnt from what we see now. It is no longer a good country. Japan is now the country with the fourth largest number of immigrants. Many of them live here illegally. If you have lived in Japan for more than one year even if you are living in the country illegally, you can get a green card. It is totally insane!!! What country are you planning to come to Japan from? I don't think it is a good idea. Japan has been taken over by Koreans and it may become a second Korea or China in the future.
Tommy Mika I am Filipino but not stupid enough to commit crimes on a country that i was not born in. I just want to live in Japan because of the opportunities and beautiful sceneries. I want to live a very peaceful life too
Well, first, thank you for such a positive comment to Shinkansen. I didn't mean to be so negative. It was a personal opinion. I know how nice shinkansen is, and I'm proud of its system and service as a Japanese. I just thought if it's a lil more reasonable, then I can use more frequently. Anyway, I want to try British train someday:)
I just came back from Japan a week ago and rode a bullet train on a few occasions. It is quite embarrassing how the world's third largest economy (Japan) has the most efficient and fastest trains in the world compared to the world's largest economy (USA). In one of my Japan guided tours, the tour guide mentioned that the JR Lines in Japan has just built the world's fastest bullet train with the maximum speed topping at 370 mph. That's LA to San Francisco in one hour.
There will be high speed Shinkansen trains that will be running between Houston, TX & Dallas, TX within the next 5 to 10 years, that is just the beginning.
I've visited Japan and done this exact ride in 2024, and two big things have changed - one for worse and one for better. They don't do any trolley service anymore, I've heard because of a lack of available labour due to Japan's population being in decline now, although I personally didn't mind since there's always plenty of interesting "ekiben" to choose from to take on the train. They've also gotten rid of the designated smoking areas - now you can't smoke on the train at all, which I'm low key shocked that it took them that long to phase out completely. The smoking culture must be stronger there.
Texas will soon have a rail line between Dallas and Houston with the N700 Shinkansen similar to this one making it the first bullet train line in the country.
MrWalker1000 There are two: One from LA (I think) to Las Vegas which is being assisted by a Chinese company and has a high chance of being built and one from San Francisco to LA which has almost no chance of being finished because the project has already been screwed up.
Sitting on the Shinkansen, watching Fuji-san in the horizon or going through the many tunnels of Kyushu, that is moment where you are thinking "wow... Now I am really in JAPAN". ^_-
Straordinaria educazione dei pendolari, qualcosa di unico, un silenzio che solo nei monti riesco a trovare. Complimenti davvero. Qui in Italia ci sarebbe stata gente che urlava e schiamazzava dal primo minuto all'ultimo !!!

I've been asking myself the same question... I've been all over Europe and parts of Asia. I love this country very much. I just wish that some of our priorities were a priority
Well done keep it up Japan..... we Indians doesn't jelous from any country, we believe on that if any country give the new thing to this world we should apprecaiate to them.
This makes me extremely disappointed with the Acela Express in the US. It tops at 80mph because the government isn't willing to invest in infrastructure for the bullet trains. I drive 80mph on the freeway...
I think the railways in US were nationalized and changed to AMTRAK. !n 1970s most of railways were managed by the mnistry of transpotation.LDP divide this national entity into 9 local ralway companies with job cut of 120000.Democrats in US cannot do this because they are supported by the railway union. However, i once took a train from Penstation NYC to Boston and felt this line had specutacular view along the Long Island.Bon Voyage for your next trip.
I agree Amtrak is the pits when compared to other world wide rail systems. When compared to airline prices a rail system would be great competition at least along the main corridors like east and west coasts. Cross country might not work as well but would be a great alternative to air travel for sure.
One of the recent problems is Chinese tourists from Mainland China. Places like Kyoto are filled with Chinese. They are so rude and have no manners. They throw away garbage and take a pee everywhere. We don't want them to come.
All Japanese proud of Shinkansen. Because it is convenient, comfortable, and more than anything else it is safety! Maintain cars , inspection and modifying the line all of the night.

Ben in China I lived three years in China and what you described is true but is perhaps more due to the customer behaviour ;-)
I have found that most Japanese are very professional regardless of their job or wages.
Ben in China It is nothing to do with the wages. This is their culture. Western service people are so much rude which reflect their rude culture.
You guys should just shut the fuck up and stop doing generalism, this is just stupid.
I like going back to Japan again and again, sightseeing is very enjoyable, nature, temples/shrine, the harmony of modern and ancient, and Japanese women.

If I'm not mistaken, the Shinkansen system has a perfect safety record.
Right. 0 fatalities since the first day of service, in 1964.

Yes, and it’s still perfect. Even in 2021
Was on a train in 2011 when the earthquake happened. Train started braking nearly the second the alert came over phone. Very safe

Old Japanese tradition. It is to respect that person you meet.
someday i will go to japan.. i love japan country and culture
I will take you...
People say someday never do it. Do it now.
In my opinion, the best in all of this is to hear the motor sound when the train gains speed...

I like how the staff bow to everyone before they start inspecting your ticket. Outside of Japan, staff loudly demand to see your ticket.

But I hear Japan has a terrible crime problem, maybe they should open up their boarders!
