Lots of children have the body but not the spirit for it. I had the spirit but definitely not the body. Back in the early 1970's, my darling, amazing, incredible ballet teacher had the tough conversation with me about exactly that. At 12 years old my dream came to an end that day. I continued to take ballet classes up to the age of 22. At 22 my back issues really kicked in and I sadly had to find an alternative form of exercise. I admire all dancers/athletes, it's a huge amount of hard work and dedication. All I can say to the young people out there don't give up and fight for your dream. 💖

standards re: the ballet body are as much about practicality as they are about aesthetics. An obese dancer will never be as agile, flexible, or easy to lift as a thinner one. A too tall one will again be hard to lift. Too short and they will stand out in the corps.

I’m sick and disabled partially paralyzed never danced a day in my life but I LOVE BALLET! I’m SO SO excited for this!
I appreciate this my mom was youngest principal ballerina in Canada at her time being principal dancer with Alberta ballet for 25 years!! Ballet is everything to us
In fact, dancers are athletes. I liked knowing that the New York Ballet sees dancers as athletes and prepares them for the job market. Very true documentary.
omg this is my type of show. I did ballet for 2 years when I was younger and I wish I had continued. But it looks like they're giving these dancers/athletes the credit they deserve. I wish they could have also shown ballerinas in other countries too like the UK, France and Russia though
Finally! A realistic depiction of ballet and dancing! Thank you very much Disney!
I can’t thank you guys enough. I feel like dance doesn’t get as much credit as I deserves. I hope people that watch this they are inspired to try this amazing piece of art❤️❤️. I can’t thank DISNEY enough
Please put the show back it was so good
Was it removed from Disney+? I can't find it by search or anywhere
Why did y’all remove it tho
I looked forward to seeing this. When this came, I downloaded the whole season. I’m addicted to this
Ballet is beautiful.
On Ponite was most favorite documentary that I really enjoyed watching on Disney+ that because I love dancing and also love to learn some beautiful dance moves.
My friend once auditioned and got into one of the top companies. She quit two months in because of how much it impacted her life and she was physically getting sick from dedicating every day to dancing. and she’s one of the best dancers I know
I actually started at a new studio about a year ago, and Taela was still there for a few classes before she left for New York! She's so talented and sweet I hope she does well!!
I've gotten really into learning more about and watching ballet. It's gotta be one of the hardest things I've ever seen. If I could relive my childhood (even though I'm only 17) I would have chosen ballet as my extracurricular. I chose piano and violin instead, which is still amazing! Violin is said to be one of the hardest instruments
is it just me or did they take it off of disney+??? i cant find it and when i search it up its not there
Lots of children have the body but not the spirit for it.
i love how the date that this comes out is the date we have our opening night for our comedy version of the nutcracker since we couldnt do our regular:)
I've been waiting for a ballet movie other than ballerina for so long now!! I'm so excited!!
Right? But Ballerina was good tho I must say.
can we take a moment to give credit to disney for calling dancers athlets
Is Ballet not very popular or respected in America? ....because in Europe everyone knows how much work goes into it.
It seems that in this comment section, people are surprised that dancers could be taken seriously.
This made me remember the dream I had more than 30 years ago. Sadly, I have to hang my pointe soon because I was diagnosed with scoliosis at 13. It was really hard work back then, but all I remember now is the thrilling and amazing experiences. I'm so happy to see the burst of dreams in those toung dancers 💜💜💜
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms featured a ballet which told the story of the Four Realms. That dance is so Russian. My normaliteer character, Quota Polunin (Caroline Sunshine), she is both a tiki dancer and a ballerina. She's also Russian.
Just re-started my Disney plus subscription for the sole purpose of rewatching this as part of my new holiday tradition only to see it’s gone 😭. Please share if anyone is able to figure out a way to acquire from some other source!
I know!! I spoke with a Disney agent and he said that if we write enough "feedbacks" in the app they will put It back. There has to be enough request though so PLEASE write a feedback!!
Yayyyyyyy!!!!! I love not only having more dance movies (we don’t get a lot of them) but thank you for using real dancers!!
this looks so good! love diving deep into the lives of full time ballerinas. there passion is so hard and I think it will open the eyes of many after watching this
Why did they remove this? It was one of my favorites😭
Mine too
Its so sad. They also removed Sound Of Music which was also a favorite
Where did they go? I’m glad they took away the Hip Hop Nutcracker, but not On Pointe. It’s one of my favorite Disney+ originals. I love it so much, I downloaded the entire season.
You can't watch it anywhere. Its gone
Why did Disney+ take it off?! Why?!
Why isn't this available on Disney+ anymore?
For real! I was in this too!
They mentioned my old ballet school and I freaked out
i'm excited to watch this bc ik the harsh reality of being a ballet dancer and hopefully this shows how much time and effort is put into a performance :)
This is going to be so great. I wish I was given the opportunities those young children are given to excel at dance when I was their age, but I love watching ballet!
Please second season! 😢
I hope Disney also makes a documentary for figure skating :D
Also lots of children have the spirit but not the body for it 😭 I will never be able to dance professionally because of my build
Same! It really stinks
0:41 too bad there are also many dancers who have the spirit but not "the body" as according to the standards of companies.
standards re: the ballet body are as much about practicality as they are about aesthetics. An obese dancer will never be as agile, flexible, or easy to lift as a thinner one. A too tall one will again be hard to lift. Too short and they will stand out in the corps.
@@ameliam1957 I’m a dance nerd, been a dancing for 10 years, I’ve read misty copelands biography. She said that when she gained a little weight, she wasn’t even over 100 pounds, that’s how underweight she was. And yet, the people she was dancing with, told her she needed to lose weight. It’s not about practicality. It’s completely unreasonable.
But that's not what she said at all. She said they may have the body, but not the spirit. 🙄
Thank you Disney! I love ballet and it makes me feel free!
me a tap dancer tap is hard
HOW THE FLIP DO THESE PEOPLE STAY ON POINT FOR LONGER THAN A FEW SECONDS!
TBH I DONT EVEN KNOW HOW I DO IT 😭😭 IT STILL ASTONISHES ME HOW I HAVENT BROKEN ANY TOES-
I'm doing both ballet and tap and OMG TAP IS SO HARD MY ANKLES DONT MOVE LIKE THAT 😭😭
I would watch it, but as a dancer, I think it would be too stressful for me!
did anyone else watch that youtube show about sab like two years ago? lol
@@saraharper yess!
Yes!!
disney coming through right when i needed some motivation for dance
Ballet is a stunning artform but people don't realize how truly unforgiving it is on the body. I attended this school for five years. It was brutal. I'm so happy Disney is putting Ballet in the forefront!
As a ballet dancer myself I'm excited for more people to get exposure to real ballet instead of just stereotypes
They not ready for the pain
Hi! Does anyone know where I can find the documentary? :) I don’t see it on Disney+ anymore or anywhere. I’d love to watch it again. Thank you!
actually cried when you called us athlete’s 😌 i dont hear that appreciation a lot lol
This actually looks pretty cool.
