The host of this video, Paul, died in March of 2022. Good to see he lives on through RUclips. R.I.P. my old friend. Many good memories, and you will always be missed. Despite his professional demeanor in this video, Paul was one of the funniest people I've ever known. Also one of the smartest.
Just bought a 99 vette and the fl tire sensor was reading inaccurately. Did this and everything is working perfectly now. God bless you for making this tutorial 10 years ago lol
Thank you! went to Americas Tire to have TPS installed on my 2001 C5 and they were having a hard time getting them programmed. I could wait around any longer and told them I will try to figure it out, or if needed call a dealer and if they charged me I told them I want that amount removed from the bill Americas Tire said I could bring it back when "I had more time"and they would get it done...I already waite 2 hours while you installed the system then jacked around with it for 30 minutes trying to figure it out, no thanks. Got home, searched the net and found this, 5 minutes later, TPS is programmed!..Oh, I I didn't need a ring magnet, I used my telescoping tool magnet, worked like a charm...Thanks again.
Great training video. I just tried in on my 2004 and now all 4 tires register correctly. You just saved me buying new TPMS sensors at my next tire change. I did not have one of those fancy round magnets, but my simple little cheap magnet did the trick. Thanks a million!!
Perfect,,,,,I followed this and it fixed my problem the very first time,,,,,,,note,,,,almost any magnet will work,,,,,I did not have one with a hole in it,,,,Thanks
Thank you! The tire store here in Homer Alaska told me they did not have the fancy equipment to train my tires!! They could have googled this just like I did. Spent the whopping $6.00 Amazon, for the magnet and now I am good to go! My Corvette is 2002. Again Thank you!
Worked like a charm after the dealer attempted to install aftermarket sensors, said I had a bad receptor antennae - reinstalled my old sensors (thank god) and this video saved my baby! Thanks! (Found magnet through google btw.)
Just bought my first Corvette yesterday , a 2000. Got 2 miles away and up popped the warning saying , service the tire pressure monitor system. New tires were put on a month ago and the previous owner didn't want to deal with the relearning process. I freaked out till I saw this video. To good to be true ???? So I grabbed a small magnet off my refrigerator and tried it. It only took this GIRL 5 minutes and one try. Yeah even a girl can do it. Thx again, I love you Corvette guys. ... Wink wink.
Paul, just wanted to say Thank you for your easy to understand Fix on the C5 Tire reset. I disabiled and can't do much anymore but I was able to pull it off the 2nd time I tried. I think I ran out of time on the first try. Thank you Steve
Worked perfectly on my 2000 C5 convertible. A strong magnet was definitely a must. I first used a telescopic bold retriever and it wasn't strong enough. Then tried a magnetic nut/bolt holder (bowl) and it worked just fine. BTW, these are the original 14 year old TPMS on my car and the batteries in them are still kicking.
@corvette4554 I'm not sure where that one came from. A strong enough magnet in any shape should work when held right next to the valve stem - the circular one just makes positioning it easy. A search for "ring magnet" on Amazon will get you what you're looking for.
Had a Right Front sensor put in and went through your setup. Took the car for a ride and the left Right Front pessure displayed. However, it seems the rears, which were displaying before now read "Left Rear XXX. Right Rear XXX", Also displayed is "SERV. TIRE MON. SYS". The Rear Left tire did give a horn beep but never registered on the display. I'm sure it's something I did. The magnet I'm using is a fairly large ring maybe it needs to be smaller. Any help would be appreciated.
It sounds like you may have a failing/failed electronic brake control module. Have you pulled codes? Also, it's worth noting that by this point, the batteries in C5 Corvette TPMS senders inside the wheels are all well past their expected service life and if they're out of juice, there's just no way I am aware of to reset the computer to ignore them.
This procedure is for factory TPMS sensors. It should be noted that many aftermarket sensors cannot be learned to the vehicle with a magnet. The difference being that you must let air out of each tire and wait for the horn to honk/beep.
uploadthis2011 this is true there is an alternate method where you have to have exactly the right PSI at each tire and the car will determine which location is which based on the PSI. Forgot about that until you mentioned it but I remember now seeing it in the FSM. Thanks!
I'm getting new wheels and tires already mounted and forgot all about the tire sensors. I DON'T NEED THEM AND HAVE BEEN DRIVING SAFELY FOR 45 YEARS WITHOUT THEM. Whew. So I just need to disable the system, because my current sensors are still mounted in my wheels and tires, and I was going to sell them as is. I don't want to take everything to a dealer, dismount both sets and mount everything again. I just want to disable the system. Trust me, I won't die without them.
Can you change the pressure that sets off the warning? I have different tires that take a higher pressure so my warning is always on and it drives me nuts!
I must be missing something, I have a 2000 and when I fill up the tires, then get the car up over 15 MPH it shows the new tire pressure (Just like in the Manual) What situation would call for you to have to reset them all? I mean if you change all 4 tires, once you get moving wont the sensors get a reading off those tires as well?
Supes Me if you change the sensors your car will not recognize the IDs on the new ones. Imagine if you were driving or in the parking lot and the car just starts picking up random signals from everyone else's TPMS. How would it even know which corner is which? That's why it has to be programmed. Think of it like bluetooth pairing.
Yes, if they're in the proper orientation. The problem is, if your minimum wage "tire expert" rotates your tires or replaces one or more of the TPMS and then can't get the new sensors or their positions programmed, this easy fix is good to know.
I just took my 2000 out of winter storage, added air to all tires to bring them up to 32 lbs. Both fronts read proper pressure, as does the left rear. The right rear reads XXX. Does that mean that sensor battery needs replacement, or does it mean they all need to be reprogramed in the proper sequence with the use of a proper magnet?
+Craig Candor I don't believe so. The C6 uses a completely different TPMS setup, as evidenced by the fact that you need to use a special tool to reset them. I'm sure that C5 TPMS sensors can be retrofitted to C6 wheels though, and if you got a set of take-offs with the sensors included, you can always sell them to help pay for the C5 ones you need.
Question: My Front Left reading says XXX then goes blank, I tried the training then when I get to the right rear nothing happens??? Would I need a new sensor?
Unfortunately, you probably will need to replace them. The batteries were never designed to work for 10+ years, so every C5 is going to experience TPS issues in the near future, if they haven't already.
Dcc357 the clockwise procedure is pretty common but not all of them are initiated from thr DIC. For example many recent Nissans or infinities have a little white two pin connector near the footwell. There is only one wire in it. Usually it is taped up from the factory if your tire sensors have never been replaced. You arr supposed to short it to ground 5 times in a short amount of time. Like 5 seconds or something. Then you go around to each wheel clockwise from the driver front wheel triggering each as you go. You need the proper RF trigger for the sensors. I think one company is called Ateq or something like that. Other systems are probably similar but still a little different. All depends which third party designed the TPMS.
If it's not registering, I am pretty sure you have a dead battery in your TPMS sensor on that wheel. You can get a whole new replacement unit, or change the battery yourself if you are feeling ambitious.

+grahamski Good to know about the tool retrieval magnet! I will have to try that myself.

You're welcome! I am glad I could be helpful. Plus now you have a way to stick heavy stuff to your refrigerator, too!
Still a great video after all these years! Used the Harbor Freight part tray magnet. Thanks again!
Worked like a charm after the dealer attempted to install aftermarket sensors, said I had a bad receptor antennae - reinstalled my old sensors (thank god) and this video saved my baby! Thanks! (Found magnet through google btw.)
I'm glad it worked for you!
Thank You! This stuff is GOLD! I've wrenched my whole life and just bought my first Corvette a 2003 and this stuff is All New to me.
boeingtrijet I have a 98 corvette the whole reset fuel em option none of them work any idea how I can get it fixed
Works on Z06 too. Thank you. Straightforward and simple explanation.
Thank you, Fix the problem on both of my rear tires. Was able to use a small magnet without the hole.
Just bought my first Corvette yesterday , a 2000. Got 2 miles away and up popped the warning saying , service the tire pressure monitor system. Just did this on my 2002 after replacing tires & wheels. Work like a charm! Thank you.
Thanks for the very helpful video. It’s so clear and direct. The directions work perfectly.
thank you spinolio ! i would buy you a drink man .
If I still drank, I would gladly accept. :-) I'm happy this was useful for you!
Did this to my car , worked like a charm

Thank You just what I needed for my C-5 just that just had a sensor changed

My rims do not have enough room for the magnet to fit around the valve stem. Any suggestions?
After 7 years still working, thank You :)
Took me all of three minutes!!!
the only problem
i couldnt find that freakin magnet any where
what shops do they sell these type of things ????
Great instructions, thank you! I needed this. 😊
I need to get the magnet

That's fucking awesome I love my corvette lol.
Thank you so much for this video.
Thank you! Worked just like you showed.
thanks for the video. Worked like a charm!
My tpms just came on and won't go away hopefully this helps..I will try and comment later..tnx
Will this still work if the horn doesn’t work ?
When using the magnet at each tire when the horn beeps does it advance the display to the next tire automatically?
Awesome work.
What if you can't clear the DIC of the tire sensor monitor warning? Also can I reset the sensors if the horn doesn't work?
What to check if horn don’t blow with new sensors
Granger,I'm getting mine today.
Thanks bud this was very helpful and worked great on my car.
Tried it with a large telescoping magnet three times but didn’t work! Now I got traction control and ABS messages on my dash!!! GRRRRR
It sounds like you may have a failing/failed electronic brake control module. Have you pulled codes?

will this magnet trick work if your vehicle no longer has factory wheels?
my first three will rset but the fourth will not no matter how many times I do it. what's wrong, one bad tpm?
This procedure is for factory TPMS sensors. It should be noted that many aftermarket sensors cannot be learned to the vehicle with a magnet. The difference being that you must let air out of each tire and wait for the horn to honk/beep.

So it will work if I let the pressure out?
Thanks dude
You saved me a fortune
As previously mentioned , go to a recycling depot and rip apart an old microwave, and get 2 perfect magnets
Thank you! Perfect instructions. Well done!
Glad I could help!
@@Spinolio how about if one of the sensors didn’t bip?

Can you change the pressure that sets off the warning? I have different tires that take a higher pressure so my warning is always on and it drives me nuts!
It's probably possible with an ECU reflash, but I would have to do some research.
Where can I find the magnet you are using!
Search for "ring magnet" on Amazon, or try www.sciplus.com/p/BLWH-DONUT-MAGNET_9930

Why don't you just try the reprogramming to find out, rather than waiting 6 years for a reply? LOL
Thanks so much, Paul!!!
Thanks for the vid. I plan on putting OEM base C6 wheels with their TPMS on my C5. Will the C5 accept/read C6 TPMS?
+Craig Candor I don't believe so. The C6 uses a completely different TPMS setup, as evidenced by the fact that you need to use a special tool to reset them. Does it work for the C6 Corvette
Is this a standard reset feature for other vehicles that have them (including other car brands)?

i have done this three times but i can't get the last wheel to honk, would you show me how to get reset the last wheel?
If it's not registering, I am pretty sure you have a dead battery in your TPMS sensor on that wheel. You can get a whole new replacement unit, or change the battery yourself if you are feeling ambitious.
yes i would love to change the battery myself if you would show me how to get that done, i would appreciated !
tony t. Check this out - www.corvetteonline.com/tech-stories/wheels-tires/reader-mail-how-do-you-replace-a-tpms-battery/
thank you very much !
very good video
t couldn't get the sensors to trigger
I have 1999 C5 i try my vette did work i dont know why? Can you help me please.
dat 1 to 4 shift
Awesome, Thank you so much.
yes i could not get the sensors to trigger.
Thanks did it myself
I can try... what part of the process didn't work? Did you get the car into training mode successfully but couldn't get the sensors to trigger?
I got all but my left rear to learn and trigger
I put stock C6 wheels on my 98 Im wondering if this will work for me.
yes thank you , you saved me a lot.. God bless..
Thanks worked great
Thank you
Unfortunately, as far as I know the C6 requires an actual electronic tool to do the reset.
Glad I could help!
Thank you!
Thank you sooooo helpfull
good
Some of you people my have dead battery's.
yes i could not get the sensors to trigger.
