Letoya and Latavia were fine with Matthew being the group’s manager but they didn’t want him as their personal manager. I’m not sure why that was an issue because other groups have separate managers. I think Matthew wanted to have more money and control over the girls.

So, you build a fan base 1st, then you eliminate the competition whether they're just as talented or have the potential to be talented. You eliminate the strong personalities leaving the weaker 1(Kelly). You then replace the old two with two new chicks, that came into the group knowing their place (barely heard & rarely seen) Then you kick 1 of the newer females out which let the other new girl know "beyonce and her dad ain't playing." All the while. ... Beyonce is using the group as a training tool to get her vocals up..... and before you know it, BOOM. Deuces b***hes. I'm going solo. Lol. That was genius. But that's just my opinion.
So true. Record labels, Beyonce, her family - everyone knew she wasn't marketable enough, she didn't have the natural star power to be a solo-artist. So they did the girl group thing to build credibility, to always highlight Beyonce and put her in the middle, and then slowly launched her solo career.

She was funny as hell in this interview. I remember when it first aired on MTV News, there was another clip (that has since been deleted) of LeToya voicing her thoughts on the new members.. “I’m sure they’re enjoying the fame…” then she mouths “the fortune” along with the cutthroat gesture and LaTavia laughed LOUD! 😂😂😂 With LeToya’s spunky personality, I’m sure she lightened a lot of serious conversations and bad moods within the group. The original four was the perfect line up. They all completed each other.

I think this was the million dollar point where Matthew was making it Beyonce and Kelly and their background singers. Letoya and Latavia were out spoken. With Matthew owning the name, as manager and the father and guardian of Beyonce and Kelly, his say overruled causing a wedge with Bey and Kelly on one side and Latavia and Latoya on another. I agree with Matthew; it is absurd to have two managers over the same group and another slice of the pie would have to be shared ( which he was probably stealing from them anyway). I think at a certain point when a lot of money is being made, legal contracts come into place. At that point it's no longer something fun for the kids to do after school. It's about marketing and making money and of course as his daughter, Matthew was going to put Beyonce first. He took Kelly in since her parents weren't there for her but I believe if she had complained about the situation as well, Beyonce would have been a solo artist a long time ago.

When looking back @ old footage from when the group was first formed. You can tell she was difficult and controlling. In one of the clips, she's seen correcting Kelly, then says, "But you're still in the group. Like her father, both thought they were invincible.

conscut I think you're looking too much into it. That interview was on December 1st, Letoya & Latavia didn't send the letter over to Matthew until December 11th or 12th. So presumably at this point Beyoncé & Kelly had no idea of what was about to happen with the group. & December 27th was the original date to shoot the Say My Name video (as LeToya mentioned here), but since they sent the letter over to Matthew a few weeks before the video shoot, the video was postponed and not filmed until late January or February I believe

You may have seen one of their first 4 videos....and recognized....2 of the members look way different. Then of course the story breaks that 2 of the members of one of the hottest girl groups of the 90's were fired or left the group after just having a #1 Single. Boom ! Now your daughter has that push she needed to get all of America talking and noticing your new song....and it goes to #1. The album sells over 8 million copies and the 4th single "Jumpin', Jumpin'" is also a top ten smash. Publicity and getting people talking...that's how you do it and sorry if you have to step on a few toes to get what you want out of life, but don't feel too sorry for La Tavia & La Toya......they got paid off.

I think this was the million dollar point where Matthew was making it Beyonce and Kelly and their background singers. Letoya and Latavia were out spoken. With Matthew owning the name, as manager and the father and guardian of Beyonce and Kelly, his say overruled causing a wedge with Bey and Kelly on one side and Latavia and Latoya on another. I agree with Matthew; it is absurd to have two managers over the same group and another slice of the pie would have to be shared ( which he was probably stealing from them anyway). I think at a certain point when a lot of money is being made, legal contracts come into place. At that point it's no longer something fun for the kids to do after school. It's about marketing and making money and of course as his daughter, Matthew was going to put Beyonce first. He took Kelly in since her parents weren't there for her but I believe if she had complained about the situation as well, Beyonce would have been a solo artist a long time ago.

The end was funny, Beyonce seemed more sad when about the possibility of the group ending than the loss of the actual friendship. Listen closely to her final words in this clip. Take notes people, this is a cold world. Treat people right, but don't be stupid enough to believe that they will always have your back because they may not.
When looking back @ old footage from when the group was first formed. You can tell she was difficult and controlling. In one of the clips, she's seen correcting Kelly, then says, "But you're still in the group. Like her father, both thought they were invincible.

When I first saw the Say My Name video and saw Michelle Williams and Farrah I was like what's going on. I don't understand why LeToya was let go her voice paired better with Beyonce.
Destiny's Child is just like The Temptations, they had enough ex group members LeToya and LaTavia could've started a Destiny's Child of their very own the way David Ruffin did!
But what difference did it make who was apart of the group & who wasn't, whether it was Kelly, Michelle, LeToya, LaTavia, & Farrah or "The Mamas" the only person you were ever gonna hear was Beyoncé. They were Diana Ross & The Supremes all over again. TLC was a girl group, not Destiny's Child.

At 0:58 it seems like Latoya is bringing up the video and date "December 27th" like she saw a memo or a msg that Beyonce, Kelly and Matthew didn't know she saw. Beyonce was pretending they were going home on break to throw them off but LeToya was like "we will be there on the 27th too"

conscut I think you're looking too much into it. That interview was on December 1st, Letoya & Latavia didn't send the letter over to Matthew until December 11th or 12th. So presumably at this point Beyoncé & Kelly had no idea of what was about to happen with the group. & December 27th was the original date to shoot the Say My Name video (as LeToya mentioned here), but since they sent the letter over to Matthew a few weeks before the video shoot, the video was postponed and not filmed until late January or February I believe

The group had been working for 7-8 years when they finally got signed and in '97 their debut single "No, No, No" feat Wyclef Jean topped the R&B chart and went to #3 on the Hot 100. A 3rd release from their debut album "Get On The Bus" featuring Timbaland was also ignored by Pop stations. A video for that single was released in '98. You may have seen one of their first 4 videos....and recognized....2 of the members look way different. Then of course the story breaks that 2 of the members of one of the hottest girl groups of the 90's were fired or left the group after just having a #1 Single. Boom ! Now your daughter has that push she needed to get all of America talking and noticing your new song....and it goes to #1. The album sells over 8 million copies and the 4th single "Jumpin', Jumpin'" is also a top ten smash. Publicity and getting people talking...that's how you do it and sorry if you have to step on a few toes to get what you want out of life, but don't feel too sorry for La Tavia & La Toya......they got paid off.
