It's nice to see a fellow fencer pointing out their mistakes as well as their success. Keep up the hard work and i hope to see you at another tournament again sometime
I really like these kinds of deep dives. Not just for my own skill as a fencer, but also for my writing of sword-fights. Hearing someone talk through both the good things and the mistakes they made is so cool and useful. I'll watch each and every one of these videos if you make more.
I have always found it amazing how fencers can see a attack coming, block it, and then be able to successfully counter attack all within a few seconds. Y'all have some unreal reaction speeds and reflexes
I loved it. I am very much an amateur in swordfighting, so it's a bit funny when you go "obviously, the hands should go first and the body follows" which makes me go "that... makes sense".
Really enjoyed your analysis of this bout, really helped me understand the intentionality behind some of the attacks and defences. Also, I got a chance to see a couple of your shows at the Kansas City Ren Faire. I hope your actor is feeling better, but the discussion of the history of weapons was very enjoyable and informative!
Hey, thanks for coming out to the Renaissance festival! Sorry you didn't see the big fight show, the last weekend was really brutal with how cold things were
Seeing you analyze this was absolutely great! It's awesome to hear your insight on what was happening and things to look out for in such situations. Thank you and hope to see more like it!
I realize this type of video takes time (fence, review, record review after) but this is amazing content. Thanks for doing this during your tournament arc.
I like the action breakdown and your analysis. Stepping back time and going over the important parts in your intent and action makes this far more interesting than one consistent time flow. I want to complement you both on your foot work. Josh in particular looks very smooth and confident in his footwork.
After fencing you at GF I have to say you're pretty tough to close safely on. That and you keep such a low profile it makes finding a target tough. Wish we could have gotten a longsword match but really grateful for the saber rounds! Hope we get more soon!
Even though this longer form content is not as successful as your shorts, i really appreciate it! Ive been a hema fan for years and years, and i just got a pair of training longswords to use with my friends
Dude, I'm learning so much from this videos you make, I have even used some of the techniques you have shown and to great success I should add. I'm turning into a better swordsman by the day, just by watching your videos and trying to apply them with the lovely hema team I'm part of. Thank you so much for this content, dude, I hope everything goes well for you.
Thanks for the video, I was really looking forward to seeing a breakdown of this session. Its good to get an insight on the techniques you're trying to implement in a "live" situation and understand why they work or don't. Also nice to see you pick up on imperfections even when successful.
Nice video, always cool to see people comfortable with talking about their mistakes instead of just their highlights. Can't tell you how many sword points I've blithely walked into. Tangentially I might just be old but I found the music kind of distracting.
Josh is really animated when out of measure -and his combo at 3:28 so fun frickin low inside + high inside + high outside strike with 3 full steps and a half step - and your thrust are mega quick! Seeing the humble thrust defeat elaborate set ups is always a pleasure.
I loved everything about this video except maybe the background music, it was quite distracting. But otherwise please keep up this style of content, its excellent!
@3:16 I'd say that even if you hit him iäd give the point to him. You touch him, even with a sharp sword it would'nt stop him from cutting your head of in his strike. Just wanted to say that good job!
Have you ever looked at the game "hellish Quart"? Its supposed to be an "accurate" fencing game but it's quite unfinished, but I really like playing it and id love to hear your thoughts.
Would you be fine if I left you some feedback? I feel like you could highly benefit from it as it is on exchanges where you didn't seem to know where to go from there and why it happens. It would be about 4:07 and 6:00, they are quite similar from one perspective. But I get that it's probably annoying to get stuff like this. I just feel you, cause I was doing the same mistake.
Hey there im new to longsword fighting and just wanted to ask if there are some good techniques for some who is quite short when fencing against bigger opponents. I'm 1.60 m, so for me it would most likely be that i'm always way shorter than my opponent.
your oponent is so unskilled that this whole endevour seems like waste of time. Here is my analysis: Guy on the right hops like a bunny and telegraphs every movement so wildly that he would be butchered in seconds by any real swordsman. Guy on the right shows great patience as he waits for the most obvious of numerous mistakes and complete lack of form or strategy at the side of his oponent, by occasional bitchslap. I learned so much today!
Sword before swording. Especially with feints, but also do the opposite for feints. This comment will make no sense to someone who doesn't sword, but it's my take away.

This just goes to show that your phone can be one of your best training tools. Recording and analyzing yourself can teach you A LOT!
As an exercise scientist, the advent of an easy to access camera with instant play back has been such a boon.

Love the fencing analysis! Great match
The little known pants block, underrated tactic imo
Wow this is exactly what I’m looking for so I can actually understand what’s going on in a sparing match, thank you
The analysis is pretty neat. Interesting to see you showing what you should and shouldn't be doing.
This is awesome stuff man!! Love seeing other fencers at work.

This was great. Very informative, especially since we see multiple bouts, and therefore can compare what happens each time.
Great analysis! I would love something similar with saber, especially discussing the thought process of openings etc
Very intuitive video. Really helps with my own training. Would love to see more!
Been looking for a channel like this for so long
I love this!

Thanks a lot for the analysis it's very interesting!

Cool analysis!

Awesome.

What style is Josh using? It's very flowing sort of. Deliberate. I haven't seen you talk or show those types of movement

Wouldn’t that be breve at the start, rather than long point? Great video, really love this format

Inb4 “Falure” in the title is fixed
People are always coming up with new and creative ways of saying "First"
Thanks for being my spell check 🤣

What kind of pants is Josh wearing? Where can I buy them?
Those are poofy pants from T'ger Toggs! Just search the name and you'll find them

Hello everyone also I am not being goofy in and saying first but I AM second but still srry if I offend u (somehow) by sayin this
How about this, if you want to say first, second, third, or whatever that's cool.
But could you pair it with a comment about something in the video?
@@SellswordArts i will next time if u must need me to 👍🏻
Great video, I'd like to see this about your saber fencing
