  • By request of a friend, I made a time-lapse video while painting the bluebonnet using the silk sizing technique. I can’t tell you exactly how many hours it was, my best estimate is 10-12 hours spread out over two days. Keep in mind, this is only the painting part of my process…
Before the video I washed the silk, ironed it, cut it to size, built the frame, stretched it, applied magic sizing, dried it, and traced the pattern (which I also made, printed, and assembled too).
Now that it is done, I have to clean up, prep for steaming, steam for 90 minutes, wash it in detergent, then in fixative, rinse, iron, and finally mount it on canvas...which is a whole other process in itself!
🎨 When you are buying a painting from an artist, you are buying years of their experience and hours of process. 🖌
If you are interested in learning more about the painting on silk using Magic Sizing, check out my online class Beyond the Line: The Silk Sizing Technique on my website at www.rootedexpressions.com.
    Thanks for watching!

It depends on the color, if I want it lighter I will dilute them. I will wet the silk before applying the dyes so the dyes will move better on the silk.
