The libido part is so true! I stopped taking birth control because I didn't want to have sex with my boyfriend anymore. People don't realize how important is that part for a healthy relationship and how many consequences could derive from the abscence of physical interaction. I felt that something was missing in my relationship and when I chose to stop taking the pill, I started to be sexually attracted to my boyfriend again and it felt so right and beautiful to me!

Thank you for making this Vivian! 💛 My story is similar to yours, I quit a year ago and I'm never going back on it. My biggest concern was my mental health which has improved SO MUCH, I honestly haven't felt this happy. I was on birth control since I got my first period and I would consistently get depressive episodes that would last months but this past year is the longest I've live without depression in 11-12 years

I’ve been on birth control for 5ish years and I’m thinking of going off it. Everything you described being on it is me. My libido is almost 0, I’ve gained so much weight, I have zero motivation, I’m sleeping more, etc… My fiancé and I do not want kids, and he’s been waiting to get ✂️, and after 11 months he finally has his consultation next month 🥳 once his procedure is done, I’m going off it for good and I’m planning to use the natural cycles app just in case, since vasectomies also aren’t 100%. But it’s so nice hearing I’m not alone in this journey and while I know this is your story and experience, I’ve heard so many other women say the same and I’m hoping it’s true for me too. Wow thanks for being so honest and even blunt about the effects of Birth Control! The irony of recovering your sex drive after stopping is so opposite of one of the reasons of taking it in the first place. I guess we go back to living dangerously 🙂But I think the bottom line is managing your period and you're sooo lucky that it became regular! Oh one subject to touch upon if you want to is day to day safety. You're a beautiful woman and even getting gas or going to get groceries can get you into unwanted encounters. How do you deal with it to live a happy life? I'm not all that and I still have run ins...from annoying to terrifying. Anyway thank you for the variety of content hon, Love! :-))))))

This is the sign I needed. I’ve been on birth control for about six or seven years and I’m ready to get off of it. I’ve had so many health issues the past two years and I’ve seen so many doctors. If anyone’s wanting to get off of birth control I highly recommend a naturopathic doctor. So far my experience has been amazing and she’s been able to supply me with the correct supplements that I need and to prepare my body to get off of birth control. I am super excited. Also did you just cut the birth control out cold turkey or did you wean off of it?

Feel so much better regardless of Aunt Flo being late/not appearing just yet. It’s a blanket drug for hiding underlying issues in women.
And yesss! Libido came back for me I was thinking the same thing with feeling asexual?? And going to the doctor asking why it’s so uncomfortable for me because of how dry I was and now I’ve done a backflip since going off 😂

My mom is a medical underwriter, she's done that for a living for my entire life, and when she saw me becoming weirdly emotional/depressed (not normal for my personality) she told me flat out to get off the birth control because as an underwriter she sees patterns between the meds people take and the issues they end up complaining of... women on birth control she frequently saw them become depressed or complaining about it. And of course the doctor would say that's not from the pill... but I took her advice and low and behold, depression magically went away slowly, after a few months it was gone. I'm not interested in ever taking the pill again. All set. Great video. Also wanted to mention they have fertility watches now too for another option. Which is pretty cool

Thank you so much for sharing you experience❤️ I’ve been off birth control for almost a year and it’s the best decision I’ve made for my body in a LONG time, I genuinely feel like a completely different person in the best way possible. This video came at the perfect time for me because my boyfriend and I are getting a bit more serious and will probably 👀 soon and I’m very nervous because the ONE TIME I had sex after getting off birth control I had a serious pregnancy scare, so I’ve started thinking about possibly going back on it again because neither of us are ready for a kid together (he has a son from a previous relationship). Thank you so much for sharing! I was never on hormonal BC but I just wanan share my experienxe shortly with the copper IUD.. I had to take it out because it somehow irritated my uterus and my periods became sooo heavy literally to the point where it was uncontrollable and I couldn‘t leave the house for too long. And I had anemia twice during this time and had to get extremely expensive iron transfusions. I‘m sure it had to to with the heavy bleeding because I didn‘t have it since.
So then my boyfriend and I spoke to a professional and had to find out that hormonal BC is defenitely NO option. It was scary to see the graphs she showed of how the normal hormonal distribution in a woman is, compared to on birth control. So we are just back to using condoms and it‘s fine for us but I think I wanna learn more about my natural cycle, so that we don‘t rely on condoms all the time.
On the other hand the copper IUD works well for my friend, so different experiences for different bodys!

People should know more about the hormonal iud like Kyleena. It’s still hormonal yes, but the doses it releases every day are so small and they’re released exactly where the hormones are needed (in uterus) so they’re not everywhere in your body the way pills and implant are. It is painful the first 6 months but afterwards it’s great. The pain during periods increases slightly (because of foreign object in your uterus and uterus is a muscle that contracts) but the bleeding stops almost completely. No need for tampons or even panty liners. Also 5 years no hassle and it’s pretty much as effective as sterilization.
It’s probably worth a shot for those who don’t want to go back to condoms and can’t rely on natural methods but don’t want the excessive side effects of the pill either.

If you do take those tests do you typically avoid sex within a certain timeframe before and after menstrual flow?

I am so thankful to be off of those synthetic hormones though now. My mental health has improved drastically. They are definitely painful if left untreated but Advil/Midol and a heating pad are all I need to knock the pain out completely. Also, post-IUD my periods got much heavier but shorter (only last 3 days on average). However I track my period with an app and the app has been extremely accurate for me and my cycle is completely back to normal now. So the biggest change that I noticed was really with my period.
I honestly don’t mind the change because I prefer my body going through its natural process. Also the IUD did not fully take my period away. It just made my cycle extremely irregular. There were times when it made me get my period twice in 1 month. There were other months when I didn’t have my period at all.

Felt the same after getting off the pill, main reason I got off it was the libido issues I was having and as soon as I detoxed it I felt brand new just like you said it’s wild how much BC makes you feel old and menopausal! Getting off it probably saved my relationship and haven’t had any pregnancy scares. Deffo worth it for me.

I highly DO NOT recommend the copper IUD. Tried it for just 3.5 months and developed chronic headaches and insane bloating in my stomach that I am still working to get rid of till today, even after I got the copper IUD removed after the 3.5 months. While it may work for some it did not work for me so I highly encourage you to do your research and make sure to ask all the necessary questions to your practitioner prior to getting an IUD.
In addition oral birth control pills gave me a bilateral pulmonary embolism (blood clots in my lungs) which almost killed me. Please be careful and cautious and know all potential risks of birth control prior to taking it, as I do feel many medical practitioners downplay the side effects of birth control and downplay the pain involved with IUD procedures.

I had such a positive experience on the pill. However, unfortunately when I came off the pill last October, I lost a lot of my hair up until recently. It's not my thyroid because I take meds for that. It is just crazy. Hopefully my hair will start growing back.

Did you find that your bleeding decreased in terms of heaviness post BC or do you still have days where it’s heavy?

from my knowledge and reading the Period Repair Manual, when tend to bleed more heavily when you're younger and less as you mature. From my personal experience of getting off BC at 27 years old, my periods were not heavy but I also utilized the information in that mentioned Manual to help keep my hormones stable to negate immediate effects of getting off BC

Thank you for for sharing your experience. I think we can all agree that birth control works differently for everyone as you said. I had and currently have a wonderful experience with the combination pill. Great confidence, skin, libido etc. You can totally have a normal cycle with the sugar pill week. While you mention that you’re not a professional and simply sharing your negative experience from the pill, I can’t help but feel that this video is geared towards a negative view of birth control. It can scare young girls who are looking to seek birth control. With the correct usage and dosage it can be very beneficial as it is the safest contraceptive with added benefits such as alleviating cramping, clearing skin, lighter amount during period etc

I went off the pill for 1 year. When I stopped taking it my skin was the best its been since I was an adult i was then 30. When I decided to started taking the pill again I got large cystic acne on my chin and cystic lumps in my groin. I becsme more anxious and started feeling depressed. I didnt want to leave the house. I slept and layed around for 2 week. I had never had that before. I also gained 5lbs in 2 weeks.
When i stopped taking the pill I got my libido back. But not for long because my bf makes me feel horrible about the fact I'm a fertility woman. We might have sex once every 4-6 weeks. He refuses to buy condoms. I've used a fertility app to avoid pregnancy for 9 months and it's working for me.

I am actually the opposite. I never used birth control (except once) and am finally able to start with the hopes it'll stop the excruciating pain I get on my periods. I tried the Depo shot once and it destroyed me and I became a completely different person that I did not recognize. I want to try again though so I went to a different doctor and finally have something new.

Started in my 40s , I would never in my childbearing years, I spent my 20s pregnant, I have 4 children. As I was entering peri menopause I started to have longer and heavier periods up to 2 weeks of heavy bleeding that affected every aspect of my life. I don’t think young girls and women should be on birth control in childbearing age, it’s a terrible idea!

The libido issue! I would force myself to initiate sex because I felt bad about the lack of sex in my relationship. My partner would comment that he knew I didn’t want to, but I would do my best for his benefit. We always had to use lube because I was so dry down there. Getting off the pill was like night and day for my sex drive and my husband has definitely noticed🤣

I’ve been off birth control for a little over a year now too. I’m not even gonna lie, I tried every single type of birth control method there is. I was on birth control since I was 15 and I am now 29. I absolutely hated all of them. Weight gain, no libido, crazy mood swings, no periods, all the bad. Only good thing was I never got pregnant. After being off of birth control, it’s been amazing! However, my period is still not back to normal. It used to be super regular prior to bc, but now it’s irregular and only lasts two days. Which I don’t mind at all. But it seems like our experience with bc is so similar! Crazy the things we do to our bodies!!!

The acne part. I’ve been off of birth control twice for long periods of time, the first being the pill and my skin was at its best. The second time when I had my IUD removed (a year and a month ago), my skin has been at it’s worst. The most painful hormonal acne along my jaw and cheeks. A lot better now than how it was in the last 8 months, but still bad. Trying to push through it 🥲
