Awesome demos! But idea why total watts for amplifiers is only 150 while similar Yamaha piano (say 795gp) could go up to 300?
Great question! It's because Roland uses a special energy efficient amplifier system in their pianos. Remember - wattage is not a measurement of sound volume. It's a measurement of power consumption (We measure sound volume in decibels). Believe me, the GP-9 is every bit as loud as the 795gp (I know because we also carry them), but it consumes far less energy - thus its wattage use is much lower. Thanks for a great question!

One additional question if you don’t mind: instead of sampling from actual acoustic brands, this modeled engine seems to offer good flexibility on tuning. But does it mean the resemblance to acoustic brands are lower than before (say comparing to previous generation gp609 or a Yamaha). And have you guys came up with buildups (or at least tried) that buyers can directly use to mimic different brands? Say if I tune it like this, this, and this, then I get a New York steinway feel. And some other tuning gives more of a Bosendorfer gist.
Hello again... and that's another great question! You can find a detailed comparison between sampling and modeling here: blog.rivertonpiano.com/2021/03/01/how-do-digital-pianos-get-their-sound/ ...but - in a nutshell - modeled pianos can be setup to sound like any acoustic piano made today. Simply adjust the parameters to sound like a Yamaha, Steinway, Baldwin, etc. As part of our Roland Owner's Club, we have a number of piano setups that we've made for clients to download and explore... but any Roland owner can make their own. This was true for the GP609 as well. Both are modeled instruments with unlimited customizability.

So this is to compete with the Yamaha cvp 809 and upcoming 909?
Not really. The CVP-809GP and (especially) the CVP-909 are quire a bit more expensive. They are ensemble pianos - with the built-in color touch screens, microphone ports, follow lights and all the rest. The Roland GP-9 will compete more with Yamaha's upcoming CSP grand.
@@RivertonPianoCompany Sounds great! Thank you for the feedback. I have a question for you tho. Do you foresee hybrid pianos to become more popular in the future? Having the ability to play the instrument as an acoustic as intended or play with the various features of a digital piano would be something I would like to see more prevalent.
The only problem with hybrids is that they still require maintenance. I think that - as digital pianos continue to improve - they will overtake hybrids and upright pianos entirely. I think grand pianos will stick around, but the rest? I think digitals will eventually take over.
@@RivertonPianoCompany That makes sense. In the back of my mind I just continue to think about how behind our world is when it comes to electricity and energy. If the power goes out you can’t play a digital piano. Better have a generator handy I guess. That’s why I was wondering your take on a hybrid. But what you said makes sense!
I live in Arizona. If the power goes out here, you lose your air conditioning. Nobody does ANYTHING if that happens! Hahaha. ...and I have yet to see anyone play the piano in the dark. :)
Does the Roland GP-9 not have strings like a conventional piano?.
That is correct. It is a digital grand piano.
Has anyone tried using this with Roland Cloud? Is it able to use those sounds?
We have used the Roland Cloud in-store and you can use any sound onboard the piano when you play along with the backgrounds. The backgrounds themselves are GM2 so those sounds are onboard as well. Thanks for stopping by!
