in this reality what i’ve learnt from places like dubai is everyone just wants to get rich and no one focuses on how soulless this type of life is rlly
Guys, even the show's CREATOR is now subject to the exploitation experienced by players in his own show. He even said that the reason he made a second season even though he didn't want to was because he didn't make enough from the first one. Netflix did not pay him in proportion to the series' wild success, which is messed up on so many levels. He didn't even get to profit enough from the show he spend years creating.
didnt they already make up their mind about making a next season before filming of the first one ended which is why the last episode set up for it? i'm sure the rest of what you're saying is true and that netflix didnt pay the creators and cast much more after the show's success either because they only care about their own pockets, but i remember s2 being confirmed as soon as s1 came out so they didnt know it would be such a huge success yet
@@falconeshield you’re missing the point. It’s not a matter of the name or how it fits into the death game genre or any of that. This is about how Netflix has an exploitation problem, to the point where even critically acclaimed writers, people who MADE THE SHOW, are getting fucked over by a soulless corporation
Wrong. Beast games is just a TV Game Show but bigger. Squid Games takes the idea of a game show and explores inhumanity, turning the "play games for money" upside down. The only thing Beast Games actually took from Squid Games was the masked people, the rest is just the concept of a Game Show. Lets not compare a show that kills people who get eliminated, and a show that gives you 2k even if you lose.
I think it's because he looks way older. Like if you were to show me a photo of him and Logan Paul I would assume he was older. Honestly, Beast to me looks like he's in his mid 30s.
I saw an interview with the creator recently and he even says he didn’t want to do a S2 but he barely made money off the first part. Even the creator of this show is coming back just for the money to live an adequate life and it just feels so bleak
I mean he wrote it out of personal experience. He's better off now than he was before and after season three he's free. Actually I'm pretty sure the whole thing is in the can he's only contractually obligated to promote it once it comes out. I really admire the way he didn't compromise on quality or the message he wanted to convey
The romanticization of squid games reminds me of the hunger games. Marketed towards young adults and teens as strong story about the horrors of capitalism and the escapist media used to entertain the masses. Susanne Collin’s inclusion of a love triangle which I think was handled beautifully and really added depth to the story when looked at with a critical eye was instead picked up and marketed as this big who will she pick ?? As if the romantic choices of a 16 yr old girl are more important than a societal downfall. Now we have grown up and here comes squid games. A piece of media used to criticize the capitalistic system and class divide has instead been a taken and turned into TikTok challenges in season one- the sugar disc (apologies I don’t know what is called) everyone doing the red light green light challenge and now Mr Breast famous for giving away his money to poor people and probably making ten fold in views. We like to be distracted and entertain even when are own reality is being shoved down our throats as long as it looks pretty we don’t mind
i was always team katniss be by herself the love story part of hunger games is the worst part by far idk if it’s bc i’m a lesbian or if it’s bc she’s fighting for liberation just to settle for someone that to me she didn’t seem to actually care for idk
@@april4524 I think that makes a lot of sense off the movie adaptations. In the book Katniss is an unreliable narrator and (imo) reveals in subtle ways that Peeta is more important to her than she realizes over and over again. And then she does realize. I personally don't see her as "ending up" with Peeta, I see her and Peeta being together in the end as the fulfillment of their winding path together. Gale doesn't feel like a true love triangle option to me because I see him as a representation of trying to dismantle the master's house with the master's tools (to bastardize the genius of Audre Lorde). Gale represents legitimate frustrations paired with "solutions" that perpetuate the status quo.
@ though i agree in the book she cares a bit more about peeta i still never liked them together that much but that’s just me she always seemed like yes she cared but not like in love idk

it’s also to note that it’s pretty common for korean shows to only have one season. Of course that doesn’t mean shows with multiple seasons don’t exist in korea but that it’s normal for there to only be one season. The creator probably only meant to have one season but with it’s success and netflix they got pressured into doing another one.
Someone else commented that despite how successful season 1 was on Netflix....they gave him peanuts. Part of the reason he's making another one is to make some money.
He was originally intending on only one season, but Netflix paid him dirt for what he pretty much sacrifices his sanity to create. He needed more money, so he continued the story
I have a friend who competed in one of Mr. Beasts’s games. She’s can’t tell me what happened, but she clearly didn’t win, and was miserable the whole time.
It's wild that mr beast saw squid games, went "huh, that's kinda like what I do.", and then instead of looking at that and changing something, just went all in and became the squid game guy.
The fact that there are real games inspired by Squid Game shows how we as a society have lost the ability to interpret fiction. We are incapable of understanding metaphors, of comprehending the creators' intentions and what they wanted to say when they created something. No matter how simple and obvious it may be, as in this case. How can someone watch the first season, like it, and then submit to participating in a similar game?
The bastardisation of what was a truly beautifully written, excellently acted and genuinely touching & poignant piece of art is one of the most disheartening things I've witnessed in real time. I hate so much that so many powerful entities have purposely missed the point so egregiously as to render the very existence of the original work, completely null and void. Without knowing what contractual or other obligations the creator may have to the Netflick overlords, I really do feel so bad for that guy. He created something incredible, that had such an impact on the world, but everything about it is drowning in the cesspool of the very thing he was critiquing to begin with. I'd be so fvcking pissed, man 😤
Yeah. I really hate how most people, especially media platforms and content creators, have missed the point and almost commercialized the artistic intent of this show. Truthfully speaking, it's messed up and really disgusts me that a show that warns us about how money and power messes with our humanity just because this silly korean show with cute pink jumpsuits and funny games in their eyes that they can just replicate. But funnily enough, even through the bastardization, I still think Squid Games has been successful with proving its point to us beyond what the first season did through these people because even if it's being trashed on by these people's need to profit off of everything, it indirectly proves that we are so depraved that these people would make a trend out of a show that is completely against their practices to make a quick buck. It kinda proves how people on top are so messed up and how disconnected they really are. I dunno maybe I'm thinking it wrong but oddly, it's kinda funny.
@@jamiecharlie_tuts Isn’t that the point of why freedom of speech can exist in a Capitalist society as a criticism or hate towards Capitalism can be used to gain more money by making shows, shirts, merchandise, and etc which fuels capitalism and makes the movement pointless
@@hallooos7585 Sadly, yeahh and honestly it sucks that regardless of how we resent the system or want to make a statement that denounces certain factors of our society, the systems in place still benefits from it cuz of how lucrative these are even if it does come off really tasteless and tacky. The original Squid Game show: A show about the dangers of unregulated capitalism and the growing divide between the rich and the poor. Mr. Beast: "Hey, that looks like a great idea!"
a little added bit of dystopian fun: one of the season 2 actors (Choi Seung-hyun) has been blackballed in the Korean entertainment industry for nearly a decade because he caught a conviction for smoking weed. This is his first gig since 2016 and he's only in it because Hwang Dong-hyuk didn't give in to immense domestic pressure to recast him. Even though he was able to remain in the cast, he's been barred from participating in any of the promotional activities, wasn't included on the promotional posters and the Korean Netflix socials hardly say a word about him. And wrt his character Thanos, I really wish they'd just let him be a washed up entertainer rather than have him be wrapped up in crypto bro's arc. There's a lot of interesting fodder for exploration in the Korean music industry especially given that Thanos was clearly based loosely on the actor's own life, but the series really pulled its punch there.
and the potential is huge, given the fact that he was part of SK's big boy band groups back in early 2010s- that touch of realism could make the "artist ended up at the shit side of the music industry" narrative work
South korea is truly a dystopia, smoking weed is getting you worse and harsher punishment than literally sa'ing someone or running a trafficking ring. Disgusting country.
meanwhile his ex bandmate had a Diddy level sex trafficking case and will probably have an easier time re-integrating into the k-entertainment industry 😬
Yep, I think that’s a good point Kayla. Big Brother wasn’t suppose to be a “positive”, existing concept - and Squid Game wasn’t suppose to be an instruction manual - but that’s what the media does sometimes, and it sucks, because the show was and still is rather good - but the discourse around it really does sucks, and lower the series into the mudd of the shallow, Netflix-style engagement we all learned to despise…
“Suffering as a spectacle” is a brilliant summation of discourse in our time. People will praise Luigi Mangioni for taking out a healthcare CEO, then turn around and vote for politicians who make laws restricting access to healthcare. The spectacle is what sustains us, I fear.
I agree with everything about this video and I get your point but I want you to tell me who are these people who are supposedly raving for Luigi but voting for “politicians restricting healthcare” and what that has anything to do with the suffering as spectacle displayed by MrBeast
@macaronisex this video literally includes Luigi Mangioni followed by Bernie Sanders talking about oligarchy. People watch Mr Beast abuse people as a spectacle aka entertainment. The same folks who love Luigi for offing a healthcare ceo turn around and vote politicians who are against improving our healthcare system. Everything is a spectacle, entertainment is more important than actions and values.
Anyone remember bumfights? The videos from the early 2000s that were literally just making homeless people fight each other for money? I feel like this is all just a slightly more polished, sophisticated, cleaned up evolution of bumfights. For a relatively small initial investment, a ghoulish dirtbag can transform the abject desperation of the poor into entertainment for the slightly less poor, in the process ensuring that they themselves will be very, very not-poor.
@@katherinealvarez9216 a lot Also the guy behind Bumfights then went on Dr Phil dressed as Dr Phil and called him out for basically doing the same thing
The difference being that Squid Game is a cautionary tale and warning about how bad greed is and what it does to the mind while Beast sees it as a financial opportunity to do exactly what they do in the games without the death (yet).
The way I didn't watch Squid Game and any Mr Beast content because my lack of faith in humanity, witnessing the vilification you'd receive if you validly criticised Mr Beast for being exploitative, etc, predicted that they/society wouldn't heed the warning of the show by just warping it into reality as something worse disguised as fun... Which they're currently complicit in doing. (Edit: I'm not saying the original show is bad or anyone that liked it is evil. Just the weird real life gameshow-ification of the series now)
SquidGame is about bad people but it's also about good people, Seong Gi-hun is a flawed man but he's also a kind one, who even in the deadly enviroment of the squidgames still fosters and practices kindness. The rich are shit, that's true, but Gi-hun is supposed to be proof the system that "dog will eat dog" is wrong, because all he wants to do is help
@@oscaruncomfortable Imagine if the ending of the show was Gi-Hun turning into a new Front Man. Then Squid Game will truly become a nihilistic show about evil people.
@lancemuise2005 40 is an overestimate... UK Office is 14 episodes Fleabag is 12 Blackadder is 28 Even Last of the Summer Wine, a show that went for 31 seasons in 37 years had 295 episodes, less than 10 per season
finally people are talking about this more...hwang dong-hyuk making another season because he made little $$ from it. mr beast literally becoming the frontman while people cheer him on, but then turn around and rebuke the squid game frontman. its sad that media literacy is so low. because this is what hwang dong-hyuk wrote about, but little see it when its applied to real life. same goes for the hunger games etc....
@Non-profitorganizationinKenyaof course Squid Game is a bit extreme, but nobody was killed while filming squid game either. And the actors who played the parts in squid game were paid money as well. But the Squid Games are a commentary on how game shows of making poor people contest for life-changing amounts of money for entertainment are EVIL. while Beast games is exactly the EVIL it speaks of.
@tobyonatabe2601 did you even watch Beast games, or are you just ignorantly hating because comparing Mr. Beast to the front man is braindead there has only been 4 episodes and he has given them at least 3 chances to walk away whith money
"Wow, it was really insensitive and missing the point to make an EDM club remix of the Hanging Tree song from The Hunger Games, ya know, because it's about a couple of revolutionaries murdered in a state-sanctioned hanging." Netflix and Jimmy: "Hold my beer."
The thing about Mr Beast is that he’s never had anything going for him‚ and everyone has known it this whole time. All he ever had was money and more interesting friends. And it’s clear to me that he doesn’t have the capacity to have real friends anymore.
He was the underdog loser that you wanted to be ok. His friends arent that interesting, guys whos still do 12yo toilet jokes. Think about him when he was counting, saying logan and pewdiepies names etc etc. He wasnt winning and he wasnt a hero. I think he has peaked. He had a good run, has no new ideas and he needs to go graciously. Yes he may at this moment still have the numbers but he has lost all his shine. He could really do with going back to doing a college course in english literature and history. OMG who would think making these type of games in real life would make ypu a winner.
Honestly, I LOVED Squid Game season 2, the characters being in these new difficult situations was incredible and seeing Gi-hun fail consitantly because he doesn't actually know what it takes to stop the games is amazing. Because when it comes to systems, stopping them from the inside seems like a good idea but it's an endless uphill climb, and even when causing a riot, if you are participating in the system to some extent you are still complicit. Gi-hun fails because he was too confident already playing the game and WINNING would mean that would give him power, because the people at the top have power, but he's still just a player. Or at least he now thinks he is, the upperclass play favorites and Inho clearly has plans for Gi-hun
12:18 - I have seen this quote going around and it is worth noting that in the original interivew (I think it was with one of the American morning shows) he's speaking in the context of having now completed shooting of seasons 2 and 3, he's done with this project and is ready to move on to other things. I've seen a lot of articles/tweets presenting that quote as if it's the attitude he went into filming those seasons with, and that's not how he comes across at all to me in the actual original interviews with him I've seen/read. To be clear I'm not accusing you of anything!! It's just something I noticed in the broader discourse and made me feel bad for the guy that he's been taken a little out of context.

just a little note - it was supposed to be a full season but because of the drain on the writer and the way episode 7 ended, they decided to split this last season (season two) into two parts (season two and three). as well as that there’s plenty of other brilliant tv shows that have very few episodes

I feel bad for the creator of squid games. Underpaid and overwhelmed. This is exactly what I am afraid of happening if my own stuff gets popular in the future
Nothing has shown how utterly incapable the modern American audience is at grasping basic themes in media that aren't spelled out explicitly, in dialogue & with on-screen infographics, than how people saw such a completely unsubtle series and decided that'd make a fun gameshow.
I usually miss quite a bit of subtleties in shows (at least on my first watch), but Squid Game was so on the nose that I'm surprised that some people missed the messaging.
My partner used to watch him out of curiosity and explained his appeal to me. Thankfully they don’t anymore but they’re chronically on RUclips so they’ve seen things.
When Elon Musk paid him money to make content on Twitter was the first I'd ever heard of Mr. Beast. i almost feel like laughing every time I hear someone described as "pretty big on RUclips," as if that means something.
my friend was telling me how cool it was he recreated squidgames and i felt crazy for thinking it was immoral bc everyone else seems to act like it’s okay😭😭😭the only difference is that contestants are not killed and they’re open with what they’re doing; the broader morals are pretty much the same
Squid Game was expected to become a cash cow for Netflix, but I find it sad nonetheless. I really enjoyed the series, but I never felt comfortable with all these Squid Game videos and merchandise because I worried they would overshadow the message- & unfortunately, they did. I've had to explain what the show is about a few times to people who haven't seen it & thought it was just a "battle to the death" show. It makes me worry a little about the show's legacy; will it be remembered for its commentary on classism or "game show" aspect? It makes me feel even more sorry for the show's creator. Imagine spending almost a decade developing a story that drew on your lived experiences, only for you & your work to be exploited like that. I hope Hwang is compensated well this time around. Also, at the risk of contradicting myself, it's ironic how low-effort most collaborations and merch. Like, black-and-white sweatshirts? Nude-coloured eyeshadow palette? Are we afraid of colour or something?
Disabled people have been saying that from the beginning. He took advantage of the disabled community and spread misinformation about blindness (in most cases it cannot be ‘fixed’) and eugenicist ideas about cures instead of accomodations and accessibility but non-disabled people did not listen
The part that pisses me off personally is that my 8 year old has been familiar with squid games for probably 2 years now, and simply because he goes to school with other children his age. I can only conclude that is because of Mr. Beast. To me that's like Blippi doing content based on The Boys or something. Idk
to be fair children have always loved dark stories. as someone who was like 9 during the big hunger games craze i was just having fun with the survival challenge elements in the same way i enjoyed, like, warrior cats. i definitely agree though that mr beast should be way more critical of the content he’s putting out to a young impressionable audience
@@iain9757it means that popular creators will take anything which is popular and trending like squid game for an example and then milk the loving crap out of it which then makes ppl lowkey resent that thing!
Mr Beast and most of the 2010s is aging like milk. Social media and RUclips has warped most art to be perceived as 'Content', making the amount of things that can remain timeless released year by year slimmer and slimmer.
I watched episode 3 last night and am over it already. There’s no “games” they’ve done multiple “challenges” and the only thing that has taken any skill or problem solving was stacking cubes and catching balls from the ceiling…? Everything else is specifically designed to cause psychological harm.
It’s wild how three or four years ago, almost everyone would agree that Mr Beast was a great guy. Guess all that money and fame went to his head. He could do so much good with his money and instead decides to do... this.
The major difference is that Beast Games glorifies that messed up aspect of the games where the entire point of the squid games show is a commentary on how some hyper rich people were manipulating people's desperation, literally a wholesale condemnation of the behavior.
I honestly love watching your channel so much because it's rare to find someone's opinion pieces to be this agreeable. Granted we are in the same age bracket and have a very similar career background and that part alone is, I think, just giving us a perspective on media matters especially that others in the general population might not have. They might agree as well, but I don't think I've ever quite had someone really show such a similar thought process to my own so consistently as well. I think I first noticed that on the Brendon Urie video and it's certainly stayed true since. A bit spooky but also quite comfortable to just be able to sit back for 10 minutes and go "THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN SAYING" the whole time. I imagine this is what dads feel like when listening to sports talk radio. All the best and keep up the great work!
I agree emphatically on your point/thesis of this video, but to be a nerd, I personally disagree about S2, I genuinely think it's pretty darned good considering the circumstances (the creator not wanting to make any follow ups and that s1 70% ripped off/was heavily inspired by Kaiji Ultimate Survivor). I found S2 to be interesting enough to not stain the entire franchise. Maybe it's cuz I have the luxury of not watching Mr Beast stuff or any of the copycat Squid Game media, as I'm not a content creator who needs to be in the know. I personally think S2 doesn't diminish Squid Games message, although you are correct in it not being so much about capitalism as a metaphor now. Now it's a good ol' battle royale with some class solidarity alongside it. Maybe it's cuz I love Battle Royale media that I still love it.
I disagree about the second season, I loved it more than the first one because it seemed to be more on the nose on class consciousness so more people will think about it. I thought characters were also more fleshed out
seeing how grossly squid game has gotten interpreted makes me nervous about my own satirical creative projects and the reaction i’d get if i published it. like how hard can a point be missed
@Non-profitorganizationinKenya I watched the show with friends We all felt sorry for the contestants, and we were all disturbed by it. In taking the aesthetics from Squid Game and basing it on that show - which is a show that criticises how the rich use the poor and will exploit them for entertainment - Mr Beast missed the point of the show. This is also not including any meta knowledge of Beast Games where they're currently being sued for not caring about their contestants and denying them basic needs
The show itself is a warning and yet it was also produced by Netflix. The show is critical of greed and capitalism and yet Netflix also funded a show to be made where people actually played the game and not only that, so many online creators made their own versions. They all directly missed the point and decided they think it would be great to bring to life. Its gross that people with unlimited funds can just toy with peoples lives like this. The whole point is that these rich people are taking advantage of the poors desperation and dependance on this money. These are the same people who trap them in debts and force them in positions where they either die poor or take on the opportunity of possibly never having to live that way again. Then they claim you have a choice yet they are directly influencing every choice you make by only making there two choices.
Squid game is not the one at fault here. More like the people who took this fiction nd thought it's a good idea to recreate it. You cannot dump on a good show just because you don't like it heck you probably didn't even watch it enough to understand the message and essence of the series
Did I say I didn’t like it? No. I said it felt cheap. I liked it when it first aired but now after a forced Season 2, a spin off reality game show, and Mr. Beast co-opting the structure for himself what made the show special is watered down and doesn’t taste the same.
@@BaileyVogtOut Well squid game never made an official spin off game series so what exactly are you trying to say? Americans ruined the image of SG as it is and now you're needlessly hating on the actual series. Where's the logic 😭 That's like hating on a person because their lookalike did something unpleasant. Not the same thing as criticizing a show
@@Lynettefan49 “Americans ruined the image of [Squid Game.]” You answered your own question. The original series is great. If you disagree with that take then I guess we’re at an impasse
Squid Game feels like The Loud House to Stranger Things's SpongeBob. They even made a real life show that misses the point of the original like The Loud House!
The billionaires and their corporations will always co-opt/commodify any art that could potentially make people reflect on their material reality and turn it into mindless slop
So I'm someone that actually enjoyed the second season but the fact that there are people out there seeing the entire thing as ideas for content rather than the actual message it sends is truly disgusting to me. Almost makes me not want to watch the third season but I'm in too deep now to stop. Here's hoping that it ends with Season 3.
This is so random but Drag Race dropping a 10-minute preview of season 17's first episode and it having a Squid Game spoof a day after Kayla dropped this is honestly incredible. Agreed 10/10 on everything btw, especially how played out everything is, which just makes Drag Race's timing even funnier
What you said about people just enjoying watching other people suffer is ridiculously accurate wow, people really missed the point of the original show just wow
Damn im really liking the second season, if you separate Netflix from the equation, the show is thematically sound and has just as much to say if not more than the first season, the contempt the creator has for Netflix I wasn’t aware of but he really did create an excellent critique of capitalism that continues on to its second season
I haven't watched any of Beast's stuff or squid game, but I definitely appreciate what the message of the original squid games show seems to be according to this video and comments
People forget, that suffering always sold. Look back at reality TV shows from 2000s and early 2010s. Watching people there suffer and/or just be stupid was always popular. Mr Beast is not a new Game Show host, he is the modern reality TV. He took the idea of reality TV and adapted it to modern audiences. It's sad but not surprising at all.
I've become obsessed with irony, if you use irony as a guide you can know the people to stay away from. If a person can't see the irony in watching that show and thinking yeah I'll do that then that says all you need to know about all those involved
I was just looking at shoes online and puma apparently now has Squid Game shoes. I weirdly understand how that tie-in makes sense, but... wow. That seems rather dystopian. Hopefully the creator is getting a cut from all the merchandising deals.

Notice how they never tried to make an irl hunger games show. I suppose because it’s children who can’t legally consent.
Classic Netflix exploiting their own workers.
didnt they already make up their mind about making a next season before filming of the first one ended which is why the last episode set up for it? i'm sure the rest of what you're saying is true and that netflix didnt pay the creators and cast much more after the show's success either because they only care about their own pockets, but i remember s2 being confirmed as soon as s1 came out so they didnt know it would be such a huge success yet

@@falconeshield you’re missing the point. It’s not a matter of the name or how it fits into the death game genre or any of that. Watching Squid Game and thinking “I should recreate this IRL” is near the peak of media illiteracy
Late stage capitalist brain rot

I saw an interview with the creator recently and he even says he didn’t want to do a S2 but he barely made money off the first part. Even the creator of this show is coming back just for the money to live an adequate life and it just feels so bleak
So fucking frustrating 😭
I mean he wrote it out of personal experience. He's better off now than he was before and after season three he's free. Actually I'm pretty sure the whole thing is in the can he's only contractually obligated to promote it once it comes out. I really admire the way he didn't compromise on quality or the message he wanted to convey
Considering the first Season left some unanswered questions, I am not sure it was the ONLY reason.
The fact that the second season only exists because Netflix basically didn’t payed the creator of the show is so ironic.
i was always team katniss be by herself the love story part of hunger games is the worst part by far idk if it’s bc i’m a lesbian or if it’s bc she’s fighting for liberation just to settle for someone that to me she didn’t seem to actually care for idk
The love triangle barely even really existed in hunger games. Aside from the third book gale is in it for maybe 10 total pages

I'd be so fvcking pissed, man 😤
I'm not surprised at him saying he's tired of it, hell I'm tired of it and I didn't even watch it
I dunno maybe I'm thinking it wrong but oddly, it's kinda funny.

a little added bit of dystopian fun: one of the season 2 actors (Choi Seung-hyun) has been blackballed in the Korean entertainment industry for nearly a decade because he caught a conviction for smoking weed.
Thanos is such a funny character to watch😂
and the potential is huge, given the fact that he was part of SK's big boy band groups back in early 2010s- that touch of realism could make the "artist ended up at the shit side of the music industry" narrative work

The difference being that Squid Game is a cautionary tale and warning about how bad greed is and what it does to the mind while Beast sees it as a financial opportunity to do exactly what they do in the games without the death (yet).
Season 2 is way more explicitly anti capitalist than the season 1 was ,
It shows actual vanguard organisation and revolt against the capitalist class.
If season 1 was used as a guide on how to exploit people, hopefully season 2 will be used as a guide on how to start fighting back
The way I didn't watch Squid Game and any Mr Beast content because my lack of faith in humanity, witnessing the vilification you'd receive if you validly criticised Mr Beast for being exploitative, etc, predicted that they/society wouldn't heed the warning of the show by just warping it into reality as something worse disguised as fun... Which they're currently complicit in doing.
(Edit: I'm not saying the original show is bad or anyone that liked it is evil. Just the weird real life gameshow-ification of the series now)

It’s wild how three or four years ago, almost everyone would agree that Mr Beast was a great guy. Guess all that money and fame went to his head. He could do so much good with his money and instead decides to do... this.
The major difference is that Beast Games glorifies that messed up aspect of the games where the entire point of the squid games show is a commentary on how some hyper rich people were manipulating people's desperation, literally a wholesale condemnation of the behavior.
Of course Mr. Beast of all people would ignore the original messaging of Squid Game.
I thought characters were also more fleshed out
seeing how grossly squid game has gotten interpreted makes me nervous about my own satirical creative projects and the reaction i’d get if i published it. like how hard can a point be missed
the new drag race season is also doing the squid game bit plssss 😭😭😭
He not only built the torment nexus he's just fully dived into industrial torment production
I always and continue to think its really weird how mr beast has gotten away with ripping off squid games.
It's a game show
@Non-profitorganizationinKenya A game show with aethsetics that eerily mirror a deliberately dystopian show
@limespots did you even watch Beast games or are you just ignorantly hating
@Non-profitorganizationinKenya I watched the show with friends
We all felt sorry for the contestants, and we were all disturbed by it.
Not Drag Race literally doing a Squid Game parody a day or two this vid came out.
Mama Ru will find you, Kayla.
RuPaul is another scummy TV personality, so that tracks
I saw somewhere that even the worst criminals can hide their crimes behind philanthropy… and it’s so accurate.
I love the show but hate how it’s been used and how its message was completely ignored
i always thought the reason people call it "squid games" instead of "squid game" is because of that uncle ben meme
McDonalds have teamed up to promote Squid Game s2.
😬 …
This was a banger of a video, Kayla. You really hit the nail on the head and put into words why Squid Game has felt so cheap
Not the same thing as criticizing a show
@@Lynettefan49 “Americans ruined the image of [Squid Game.]”
You answered your own question. The original series is great. The spinoffs, copycats, and marketing deals have made it the exact thing it was meant to criticize. Now it’s difficult for me to enjoy it.
If you disagree with that take then I guess we’re at an impasse
Squid Game feels like The Loud House to Stranger Things's SpongeBob. They even made a real life show that misses the point of the original like The Loud House!
13:16 If the writer was annoyed with netflix , might have been trying to mock them
The billionaires and their corporations will always co-opt/commodify any art that could potentially make people reflect on their material reality and turn it into mindless slop
I'm so tired of hearing about Squid Game I didn't even watch this video. I'll just come back to watch it when I'm less tired.
I’m already sick of it too.
i thought i was the only one who gets infuriated when people call it 'squid games' lol 🤣
I need you to address the RuPaul drag race squid games parody
Damn im really liking the second season, if you separate Netflix from the equation, the show is thematically sound and has just as much to say if not more than the first season, the contempt the creator has for Netflix I wasn’t aware of but he really did create an excellent critique of capitalism that continues on to its second season
I haven't watched any of Beast's stuff or squid game, but I definitely appreciate what the message of the original squid games show seems to be according to this video and comments
He literally read the book "don't make the torment nexus" and then went and made the torment nexus
It's sad but not surprising at all.
who the hell is actually subscribed to mr beast
children and bots
300m+ people
Hundreds of millions of people 🧍🏿♀️
Nobody except for dumbass ipad kids and bots
I've become obsessed with irony, if you use irony as a guide you can know the people to stay away from. If a person can't see the irony in watching that show and thinking yeah I'll do that then that says all you need to know about all those involved
It’s like these people are trying to miss the point.
I was just looking at shoes online and puma apparently now has Squid Game shoes. I weirdly understand how that tie-in makes sense, but... wow. That seems rather dystopian. Hopefully the creator is getting a cut from all the merchandising deals.

Literally no one understood the aim of Squid Game's commentary and it's so weird to see Mr Beast LITERALLY recreating this in REAL LIFE.
At 3:18 - is that all the Host of Mr Beasts Squid Games ? All white cis presenting guys … ?
What a way to make your audience struggle telling each host apart
The script for this video was breathtaking. You took no prisoners in the best way possible. Loved it.
I knew something like this would happen I heard people saying when I was at a hunger games movie years ago they were like why don't they make a real life hunger games 😅 I was like don't you remember people died in the movie

Big producers like netflix and amazon just seem allergic to money nowadays, even when they have something that they know with absolute certainty will be a big hit like squid game s2 or hazbin hotel, they give it way too little space to breathe.
Nah, they’re allergic to quality. The cash is still coming in…
Bro clearly doesnt understand that the entire point of squid game is to criticize people like him
The real interesting thing to me about squid game is that it's not unique, I've seen enough how to beat videos to know that "Fictional game show for people with debt issues that tortures them and sometimes even makes them kill or kills them for the entertainment of some rich people" has already been an entire genre even well before squid game, it was just the one that really took off.
People watching the show also for entertainment, after all, they're treating it like a competition game, hence why people watched MrBeast video - entertainment.
We seen dozens of movies, tv-shows, and documentary films highlighting rotten aspect of our world, but wow, I don't see that being changed? (Corruption, pollution, exploitation of classes, toxic food products, monopoly) Squid game does highlight this issue from another angle, but after-all, people are aware of this lol, they want their day to be entertained.
I think people don't care than "miss the message".
