Frankfurt S-Bahn Trains

- The Rhine-Main S-Bahn system is an integrated rapid transit and commuter transport system for the Frankfurt/Rhine-Main region, which includes the cities Frankfurt am Main, Wiesbaden, Mainz, Offenbach am Main, Hanau and Darmstadt. The network comprises nine S-Bahn lines, eight of which currently travel through the cornerstone of the system, an underground tunnel (the "Citytunnel") through central Frankfurt. The first section of this tunnel was opened on May 28, 1978. Further tunnel sections were opened in 1983 and 1990, before its completion in 1992. The system belongs to the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) and is operated by DB Regio AG, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn AG.

There is two main types of S-Bahn trains that are in service in the Frankfurt area:
DB class 420
The class 420 is an older version of the newer S-Bahn, they were built in 1969 and now mostly serve the Frankfurt area.
DB class 423 (and 433)
The 423 and 433 are the newer version on the class 420, I personally like these EMU's as they have a very nice engine sound that I really like, the 423s and 433s are a very common sight on the S-Bahn network and will stay in service for many years to come.
These clips were taken on Saturday the 22nd of February and Sunday the 23rd of February 2014.

The "S" stands for "Schnell" which means fast in english. "Straßenbahn" is a german word for tram.
I spent 4 years between 1997-2001 living in Dreieich-Buchschlag (on the way to Darmstadt) and used the RMV a lot. I mean, who needs a car in Frankfurt? Your video brought back very pleasant memories. Very nicely filmed, too.
Thank You, i'm really glad you liked it, when I was over there I found the RMV very good for getting around the city, but still it baffles me the way there is so many traffic jams on the surface and there is hardly any disruption underground.

Great video of the 423's EMUs. All the suburban bombardier units have great engine sounds! The bombardier units in Portugal (3400 EMU) sound very similar CP 3400 UME (EMU) departs Cacia going to Aveiro

@@norwayspotter26 This type was manufactured by several manufacturers, and Duewag (now Siemens) was actually one of them. The others were MAN (Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nürnberg), WMD (Waggon- und Maschinenbau GmbH Donauwörth), LHB (Linke-Hofmann-Busch, now Alstom Transport), MBB (Messerschmitt-Bölkow Blohm), Orenstein & Koppel, Waggon Union and Rathgeber. They are all the same, no matter which one of the companies manufactured them.
The prototype was built in 1969, the prototype excluded there were eight different subtypes. Manufacturing of the last subtype was seized in 1997. There was also a plan to remodel the trains to increase their life time. New doors, air-conditioning, displays for the next stations, LED head- and backlights and so on. That program was called ET 420Plus, and it was abandoned due to technical problems with the trains.

They are already on the S7 line and rarely on the S1,S2,S8,S9

Thanks Danny, yeah I was quite surprised with how comfy they were, but those S-Bahn trains is actually their commuter rail, another words it goes out into the outer suburbs of the city. I still have to upload their subway trains in the city so stay tuned for that. And yeah they can accelerate quite fast alright, but I just love their engine sound.
Ah I see. Did you get any hassle from staff for filming on the platforms?
Ah no, bit I tell ya what's funny over there. unlike here they don't have ticket barriers in their train stations so you can just walk onto the platform without a ticket if you wanted to.
But considering there is no ticket barriers people are trusted to use the system properly by having a ticket. If your caught without a ticket by an inspector then you will get a massive fine.
