    It’s not the platform. Measure the opening of the magazine. You want the front on a metal magazine to be around one to two thousandths larger than the rear of the opening. The malfunction is caused by the follower getting caught or dragging as it reaches the top of the magazine. You see this a lot in race guns. There’s always a little tuning required to make everything play nice together. Great video. Keep up the great work.

      This is exactly the issue I’m having with my gen 3 magazine, I actually took it apart and carefully sanded the front left side of the grey plastic follower and they are now working perfectly. Annoying that it’s the 3rd gen of these and still problems.

      That was supposed to come out april of 2022. PSA always takes forever to release stuff and there quality can be questionable. The design also looks like a nightmare and the only thing that was shown was a prototype. Is there gonna be a lip where the metal and polymer meet?
      Its not like a factory mag where the plastic forms a complete structure. Gonna be hard to form them together in such a limited space for 15 and having space for the depth of the oem catch. That's not considering the tolerances of the 2 parts.
      All that potential for issues just to be able to run the factory mags also? Thats not the main problem.
      Ill be waiting and waiting for them to come out, reliability being field tested without any ftf in any production mags. But im not holding my breath.

I ran 50 through all three and one ran perfect, one a single failure, one had two. All three failures were what you showed with the round just not quite going in. A slap on the bottom and all three jams cleared. I'll be testing more but already better than my single shot jam o matic gen 2's. It makes me wonder if the surface finish is causing the issue. I've not picked up the g3 but it appears to be less slick which could mean that the same spring tension won't push the follower up as fast. This would also be consistent with the break in period as the inside of the mag would be rubbed and smoothed out a little. The fact that the follower can't be made tall enough to be "anti-tilt" also means that spring pressure is extra important. Without adequate force pushing on the front of the follower, a nosedive is definitely possible

    I found the problem to be as the round is brought forward by the slide, the bullet's casing at the neck where the bullet sits gets caught on the front edge of the Shield Arms S15 magazine. This leads to the fact that after shooting many rounds through the firearm the S15 magazine front edge will wear down from repeatedly striking the casing's edge. I can repeat this. I filed my front edge down.

    Having the same issue. After several hundred round break in with FMJ's with minor issues I proceeded to load up my carry hollow points consisting of Speer Gold Dots and Hornady FTX. Inserting a full mag into the pistol and proceeding to chamber a round it jams every time on the feed ramp, almost like the follower is too flat. My guess it that they corrected the "play" in the mag with the bumps on the back which may have pitched the mag slightly forward, if they kept the same follower angle as the previous gens I could see where it would nose the round down slightly. I think if they could pay specific attention to the follower angle and make a correction these could be great mags. All 3 of my gen 3 mags are going back to Shield Arms. Will post an update when I know something more. I do have the metal mag release as well, my G48 and 43X are stock, issue with both guns and all 3 mags.

    Buy PSA micro dagger mags you don’t have to modify your pistol to use them and they are cheaper. But if you have a RUclips channel like GUNMEN does shield will give you mags and pay you to use and show off their mags. A working man who doesn’t get paid should use PSA

    • @smith981

      Because the M&P Shield Plus and the P365 are using stack-and-a-half magazines out of the box. They already do what Shield Arms is doing in these mags for Glocks that are single stack OEM.

    I use it since day 1, not a single issue, about 600+ rounds. about 250 from that number were HSTs 124 P+ from federal
    I have only gen 1 & 2 mags
    I see how the issue could happen, you literally have to push magazine slowly and under specific angle to make it happen, so the round remains/sits under the slide. It can be done, but you literally must put an effort.
    Any slight movement and round slides in a front of the slide removing the issue by itself. it seems like they tried to eliminate that in gen 3 with bulging/bumps at the back.... but f.. up something else :)
    I see they changed geometry of the feeding lips in gen3 causing the round to "dive", but this probably unintentional change done by the contractor like it happened with a lot of guns going to a diff. manufacturer
    Anyway, non professional work
    btw you MUST use "PREMIUM" magazine button, which is made of steel. The aluminum one will get sheared by magazine making it another point for a problem. The NO-go with plastic(OEM) for sure
    in my case, if I knew about SIG 365 XMACRO before I upgraded from 43x to 43x MOS, I would go to SIG for sure (even thought I didn't have any firing issues at all). I consider required magazine release change as an issue :)s

      @@KhanTrav You aren't out of the clear yet. The source of the Shield mag malfunctions isn't the mag catch. Its the thiness of the mag tube itself. The Glock mags cause cartridges to sit further forward, so they are property picked up by the slide. The cartridges sit too far back on the Shield mags, so they butt up against the slide.

      Just don’t cut corners when upgrading your Glock 43x.
      Use the S15 metal mag catch.
      If you’re running a red dot, make sure your bolt/screw on the right of the dot does not come in contact with the extractor plunger.
      Most importantly, the don’t treat the 43x like a Glock 19.

      The PSA mags are likely to have the same issues the shield mags do in the g43x/g48.
      I don’t understand why both of these companies have chosen to try and locate/restrain the magazine differently than Glock does. Glock mags all have a shelf on them on the upper left side that interfaces with the frame and forces the mag into the correct position. Neither shield arms nor PSA have that on their mags.

    • @BrandonZink
      @BrandonZink Год назад

      @@bma8013 thanks for the info. I didn’t know about the shelf thing. I had a gen 2 s15 mag that was nothing but trouble from the first time I used it in my 43x MOS. I’m still gonna give the psa a try and hope they are good to go. 🤞

    • @ojh7025
      @ojh7025 Год назад +1

      @Bma801 interesting. The little I have seen on the psa mags has been a quick shot in a video. Looks like a hybrid with polymer in the front half and steel in the rear. The polymer section interfaces with the mag release without allowing the mag release to interfere with the magazine spring unlike the shield mags. Still interested to see how they will perform if ever released...

    Obviously the problem was their magazines, regardless of variations with Glock frames. Glocks work with OEM magazines, reliably.
    Shield Arms can make any excuse they want, but if they were serious about solving the problem, they would have matched OEM spec instead of adding ugly rivets that are going to wear away at your plastic frame over time & cause another problem.
    They just want to push another product for us to waste money on before PSA drops their micro-dagger magazines and takes over their market share.

    After 35 years and thousands of rounds through various Glock pistols, the Glock platform is my go-to defensive carry firearm. I love firearms of many types so not a "fanboy". But for serious purposes my experience has always brought me back to one Glosck or another over the years. NEVER had a mag related malfunction with stock Glock mags. I had high hopes for the S15 mags. On paper, they sound great after all. However, after a couple of mag related malfunctions with the S15 mags I'm a HARD no-go with them. And while the capacity advantage of the Shield mags looks awesome on paper, ANY decrease in reliability of my defensive firearms is unacceptable. I paid way too much for two S15 mags that are now just paperweights. Fine for range use, but who needs expensive mags for range use?? Good for stoppage clearance drills I suppose... I'd NEVER trust my life to ANY aftermarket Glock mag. Magazines are the heart of any semiautomatic firearm. Factory Glock mags are the most reliable I have ever used in any firearm in well over 45 years of shooting. In my experience, deviating from a proven design for unnecessary capacity considerations is just not worth it. There is a reason that Glock made the G48 with 10 rounds rather than 15... The tolerances and physics just aren't there in the 48 grip's dimensions for that capacity AND still provide 100% reliability. RELIABILITY is what Glock has been about for damn near 40 years... Change their designs at your own risk. In the real world, if you can't handle a situation with 10-11 rounds, do you really think 5 more will make a substantial difference? Are you willing to sacrifice the stock 100% reliability to gain the dubious advantages provided by the few additional rounds? Not me...

  • @TheVikingSailor
    @TheVikingSailor Год назад

    Honestly, Glock is so far behind the industry with this stuff. It's enough to make me switch from Glock, which I've been a Glock shooter my entire life, to another brand. Capacity is the name of the game in CC right now and Glock just doesn't seem to be making effort to keep up. I hope Shield arms gets this figured out, but we shouldn't need aftermarket companies to fix a design limitation.
