Result of constant rain and hundreds of people walking the trail, I have never walked it in that condition.

The coolest surprise at the perfect time to lift the spirits. Imagine the mission carrying those cans of drink, fruit, and chocolate in those conditions into Turnbulls Hut.

Correction,I meant North West Arm Hut. 80 to 90 percent of naive tourists poorly equipped with tennis shoes, umbrellas, and waist lenth foolery for rainjackets, would return back to Half Moon Bay on the first day in a bedraggled, dishevelled state, generally minus a shoe or two, swearing and muttering in desperation.

Rustic, that's one way to describe Martins hut 🤣🤣 It was definitely time for a beer somewhere in the world. Amazing Trail magic, beer , cheese and fruit WOW !!

Hi, my hubby and I have loved watching your hikes…we have a question how are the feet going constantly walking through water and mud? (PS wonderful trail magic, that’s luxury, what angels !!)

Epic mudfest. On Stewart Island way back in 1978/79 we built corduroy 's of pine laced together with no.8 wire, then laid chicken wire on top for grip.Problem was as soon as the boardwalked sections stopped , those doing the northern circuit would dissappear off the end. Some returned prematurely especially those going to Northend Hut.Maybe a nice walk in a desert would rate at the moment.😊

What a struggle day 164! I don’t think I have seen Nikie so frustrated even through the worst moments of this trip 😅

Yea Im not to sure about this te Araroa concept. Tracks turned to mud huts that were previously were you could take your family for a weekend hike are now full of lost souls trying to hike there way to happiness . Im thinking of the kiwi burn which people used to hike in with their babys on their back and kids with their school bags for packs, Maybe hard core overseas hikers should stick to the great walks and the main hiking trails.

Yeah, I used to take my kids in to Aparima hut, but it’s usually packed when we go there. TA is so popular now

The Te Araroa is just one thin line down the length of the country. There are many other places to go in New Zealand if you don't want to encounter thru-hikers .

@@theyetti8811 southlanders aren’t going to drive many hours to alternative huts. Queenstown and above has many options, Southland not so much.
