My son introduced me to David Phelps 5 years ago at Christmas time. I listened to his version of O Holy Night and I was speechless to say the least! Number 1 on my bucket list is to see David Phelps in concert. Your reaction is right on! He is a world class singer. His passion for Jesus always comes through in every performance. I heard another reactor say “he’s not only a gifted singer, but he’s a minister of the gospel”. I agree with him.

David Phelps and the pianist, Anthony Burger, were a force to be reckoned with. Anthony passed away in 2006. They played off of each other's strengths. David is an amazing singer. He sings and writes much of his own music. David is a gospel singer classically trained. His song, Hello Beautiful, is a surprising song that will pull at your heartstrings.

David is classically trained and a music major graduate from Baylor University and he is the best male vocalist on the planet and has been for the past twenty five years. I know...I have seen him live 11 times from the front row, met him multiples times, met his family and been to his home twice for concerts at his annual Barn Bash. He fly's under the radar because he is a Christian artist. There's no one better...and it's not even close.

David told his dad he wanted to be a singer. So from there he went on to be classicly trained. Many people have said he has the most amazing tenor voice of all time. He was part of the Gaither Vocal Band and now he has branched out on his own and now has many of his own musicians. You need to listen to him sing "Let Freedom Ring"! Amazing!! The people behind him are not a choir, they are other singers connected to Bill Gaither Music. I have been to 3 of his concerts - Any time he is in driving distance I am there! I absolutely loved your review!

Aaaaaaaand! How about that piano!!! I mean…WHAAAT?!?! David also expresses the meaning behind the lyrics, almost like an actor, helping you picture the message. I listen to this about a thousand times every single Christmas, and watch and listen for the various subtleties, and I know NOTHING about music. I’m so glad you loved him as much as I do! Your comments were spot on. He is a one in a billion.

Welcome to the world of David Phelps! Great reaction! You are gonna love the David Phelps rabbit hole... he really is one of the greatest male vocalists of all time. There's no shortage of performances for you react to. For another one with a choir joining in "We Shall Behold Him" and "The Dream" both are powerful and stunning. Other great ones that are mainstays of his, "No More Night" and "Let Freedom Ring" (with the GVB, a "quartet" type gospel group). Also, a more recent performance of "I Have Nothing" is excellent, where he crushes a D5 like it's nothing at age 53. So many to choose from... the best though is that he really connects and believes what he sings, which makes it even more powerful, especially live. Enjoy the ride!!!

Twenty years later, you should hear his version of "I Have Nothing" in the same key that Whitney Houston sang it. David is a fabulous singer and songwriter. And hilarious. He has a fantastic sense of humor. I saw him live last year right after his birthday (52). Someone shouted out Happy Birthday. He thanked them and said his wife Lori shares his birthday. Same month, day and year but he was born 3 hours before her so that makes him the boss in the family. He then lowered his voice and said, " She didn't hear that, did she?" She was running his merch table out front. LOL!

David is a great tenor. He was part of the Christian "Gaither Vocal Band" for many years, but he left the band in 2017 to concentrate on his solo career. He usually sings Christian songs.
I also want to give credit to the pianist Anthony Burger. He was an excellent piano player. Unfortunately he died at the age of 44 from a heart attack. It's worth checking out some videos of him playing the piano masterfully, e.g. "Exodus" ruclips.net/video/Pv3pOP2GkKM/видео.html

The Gaithers, Mark Lowry (who wrote the lyrics to mary did you know) and who is right behind david in this video, George younce from the cathedrals, Ivan Parker from the kinsman, and so so many more. If you watch ever older videos of the gaither homecoming concerts you will see j.d. Sumner who at one point had the record for the lowest bass note and also sang backup to Elvis, the Goodman family, the Ledbetters and others.

David's voice in "In the Garden" made me cry because the incredible tenderness he expressed in that really precious song (sung from his heart and spirit!) plus "No more night!" is also touching AND powerful! ❤❤❤

But, loved your reaction, description and feeling of the performance was great.

He's my all time favorite vocalist - he is also a wonderful, REALLY FUNNY man! He loves to joke but is also deep and has a great faith in Jesus. We get to see him perform next week in the Phoenix area!!!! This will be the 3rd time we've seen him perform. In person is even better!

Everyone that has Teacted to this performance and there are many is absolutely blown away with his talent. Especially those that never heard him before sing anything. There are literally 100's of his performances you could choose and they are all great. Solos, duets, part of the Gaither Vocal Band and on and on.primarily Christian Contemporary, but across all genre's he is wonderful. Try "No More Night" next.

I enjoyed watching your reaction to David's song. He's my favorite. Besides his amazing voice, to me, he has, hands down, the BEST stage presence of any performer. His passion, conviction, poise, and gestures are in a league of his own!

David Phelps is completely amazing! I’ve seen him in concert a few times and have followed his videos for years! So many performances from different genres of music all excellent. He is 53 and still writing, arranging, singing and touring! Jump on the Phelps band wagon! You will be amazed!

He is the greatest male vocalist of any genre today. Power, depth, range, control, clarity, emotion. Phelps is just stunning - classically trained but performs mostly gospel due to his own deep faith.

If you like David Phelps' version of this, you would also love Sandy Patti's version with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Both David and Sandy have musical training and degrees, but both rose to prominence through the Gaither Vocal Band, a long-standing gospel group.

The best performance of this song, ever - check out: NO MORE NIGHT , LET FREEDOM RING, THE END OF THE BEGINNING,- David was with the Gaither Vocal band, (quartet with Bill Gaither still leading the group), a southern gospel group, world renowned for many years classically trained - WATER with his daughter is stunning - Truly one of the greatest vocalists ever, certainly as a tenor ~ Bill and Gloria Gaither have written hundreds of Christian songs including HE TOUCHED ME Bill is in his 80's and the group just completed their Christmas tour last evening.
GOD BLESS AMERICA from his solo concert years ago will have you in tears!
Mark Lowry who wrote MARY DID YOU KNOW, sang with the Gaither Vocal Band at the same time as David - one of the greatest quartets of all time~ Mark Lowry is just behind and to the right of David in this performance. David Phelps, Michael English (incredible talent), Guy Penrod and Mark Lowry were perhaps the greatest quartet assembled by Bill Gaither at any time ~
David comes from a musical family and is joined by his two daughters in his solo concerts- a sister that sang with him previously passed away ~
David's performance of HE'S ALIVE with the vocal band is another truly stunning, anointed performance- He is considered one of the greatest tenors of all time, deservedly so-enjoy the journey

I agree with everything you just said but would like to add that David's music professors at Baylor University tried to persuade him to go into Opera. He has several opera pieces that he literally slays but his passion is with the gospel genre. He is fabulous at any genre he chooses to sing and he does a little bit of everything.

David Phelps has so many songs that show off his control and range. David has won several DOVEAWARDS. I agree with all the comments below. Try the comparison of one song from over 25 years ago and now. the new is from a Christmas concert as his hoe the Barn and Bale Christmas Concert. The song is "LET THE GLORY COME DOWN. OLDER VERSON IS LINKED TO : ruclips.net/video/vcFoLtDuANI/видео.html AND THE CURRENT VERSION : ruclips.net/video/R58BI_PkVaw/видео.html. David is now 53, about 31 when he did this. He has absolutely not lost a thing in his range, power, passion, control, tone and clarity. In my opinion the best in the world in all those areas. You really need to check out his cover of Whitney Houston's "I Have Nothing" you won't believe it and covered that in 2021. Also "No More Night" and "Let Freedom Ring" when he was with the Gaither Vocal band.
