WATCH: Sen. Slotkin questions Hegseth in confirmation hearing

Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich. questioned defense secretary nominee Pete Hegseth in a confirmation hearing Tuesday held by the Senate Committee on Armed Services.
Slotkin asked whether Hegseth believed there were some directives the president could give that would violate the U.S. Constitution and whether or not he would carry out such an order. He responded saying he rejected the notion that President-elect Domald Trump would give illegal orders.
"I'm not gonna get ahead of conversations I would have with the president. However, there are laws and processes inside our Constitution that would be followed," he said.
Hegseth is a military veteran and conservative media personality. President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for defense secretary has faced allegations of sexual misconduct and excessive drinking, and been criticized as a nominee for his controversial views on diversity and religion in the military.
