I remember a time where every single clone troopers had a removable and accurately-sized helmet. Super articulation. Good paint applications. Soft goods. I'm not going to lie, I think this figure looks horrific. The antenna looks cheap, and reminds me of the Mission Series line. Yet tBS is supposedly aimed at hardcore collectors. I really, really miss the Legacy Collection, the Vintage Collection etc. I feel like quality had been going downhill for the past couple of years, and it is really sad to witness this transition from good (great, even) to mediocre.
Adrian Goodfriend I agree completely! We really experienced a "Golden Era" of collecting between the 30th Anniversary Collection & The Vintage Collection. I pray we've seen the last of Hasbro only giving 45% effort to their product, and we see a surge of premium detail & super articulation when The Force Awakens products finally arrive.
SithLord229 I'm glad you feel the same way as I do mate. I remember watching your videos back in 2008/2009 saying to myself "damn, these figures look awesome, look how far we've gone since the Power of the Force line". But now the step-down is simply too obvious-and I'm afraid even the 6" BS is starting to suffer from it (this is the only line I focus on these days). I hope, I truly hope D23 will give us a first glimpse at what Hasbro has in store for us. But to be perfectly honest, I'm not expecting much from the 3.75 side of things. The focus on the 6 inch line is far greater as of today, and I get a feeling hasbro is aiming a younger audience with the 3.75 inch (Mission Series). Can you imagine having TFA figures only available in 5POA?... "I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced"
Adrian Goodfriend I fear the same. I absolutely love the 6" line. There have been some hits & misses, but the most recent wave, featuring Leia in Boushh Disguise, IG-88 etc is fantastic IMO, a real throwback to what the Black Series 6" SHOULD have been the whole way through, so I hope that quality continues into the TFA products. I do think we'll only see a select few 3.75" TFA figures though, and that saddens me. As much as I love 6", the 3.75" line is the bread & butter of the Star Wars brand. To disregard it in the way Hasbro have done recently is criminal.
Hey Steve! The "new" Jabba in the Rancor battle pack is really cool! My only gripe with it,is the paint under the nose could have been a little better. And "HASBRO" Must have heard you about the rubber belly problem with the last one, because they made this one's belly a hard plastic.
I bet Wolffe is next, just from you saying a "unique" figure. I bought Captain Rex and had almost the exact same thoughts as you, but the plastic Kama looks good to me. The soft goods kamas looked strange in my opinion.
Love this figure! As always, great review mate! I thought this was going to be a worse figure than what it looked like online. Yes, he has some issues like you said (mine are the undersized helmet, plastic Kama, no ball jointed hips, and no ball joint at the ribs) but he still is a nice looking figure. A very cool addition indeed! I heard a rumor that Hasbro was going to release another version of this figure online with a removable helmet and fixes of this figure, but I'm not sure if they were true. I saw pictures though, so they are out there.
BanthaPooDOOM They had plans when the Black Series was first introduced to retool the Captain Fordo/ARC Commander figure from TVC to create a Phase I Captain Rex. I wonder what happened to those plans. They released press images & everything & he never materialised!
And the one thing that really bothers me about this figure (along with Doom and Wolffe) is the lack of weathering. Yet again, Hasbro has been struggling with quality control. Commander Neyo was a spot-on 10/10 figure, whereas Rex, Wolffe, Doom, and Thorn have issues with tooling, proportions, and paint apps. It's bad enough there's been a severe price inflation here in the states, where retail stores are now asking $15 for these figures now, which is freaking ridiculous! >=( Why buy a half-assed, overpriced, 3.75 figure, when for $5 more, you can buy a much more articulated 6 inch figure with more decent paint apps? But hey, I can't really complain too much; at least they're actually releasing these characters and they are actually making it to retail thanks to the new distributors whom Hasbro and Disney have signed contracts with! =D
i cannot wait until they make the rebels version of rex, wolf, and gregor! I hope hasbro does an amazing job on those like on this, but also, amazing video!!!
Sorry to say, but I REALLY hate his pauldron! I prefer using the one from the 2012 animated Phase 2 CW Rex; it looks more proportionate and adds more head movement. =P
I was very upset with this figure sadly, it feels a bit on the cheap side. Years of waiting for a non animated rex, and we get this mediocre monstrosity , they would of been better off doing what they did with clone commander Neyo and Fordo, using the Vintage clone body, with slight modifications. Captain rex would have been 100 times better if they would of just repainted the vintage collection Captain Fordo, in my opinion. Imagine if the would of done that, a captain rex with soft goods, two helmets, his first helmet seen on clone wars and his welded helmet. shame hasbro didn't put much effort in rex.
Jacknava2001 Those are my thoughts exactly. I even touched base on the Fordo issue in this video. A year or two back, Hasbro had plans to re-use the Fordo sculpt for a Phase I Captain Rex. We even saw press release images of it, but it never surfaced. I'd love to know why, because I feel it would have gone down much better than this version.
yea, i never understood why, its sad that hasbro upped the price and lowered the quality, you would think with the price hype, they would at least keep the quality good instead of going down. Then we got the newer horrendous saga line, that doesn't even come close to the glory of its predecessor line Hasbro has gone down in quality in other lines as well such as the Jurassic line, which i also collect aside from star wars. If hasbro had replaced some of their old toy designers/ employees, i think they need to get the old guys back.

Adrian Goodfriend Yeah, I think the Clone Wars line of figures was home to the best Clone Trooper figures, IMO
Anybody hoping Hasbro remakes Darth Revan with update articulation in either the 6 inch line or the 3.75 line
Captain Rex is one of my favorite characters
They're DC-17 pistols not dl-44
I know. I realised not long after shooting this review! Should have done my research!
It happens. At least you know for next time.
I cry every time I see a Clone Wars character. Disney...
Captain Rex is my favorite clone trooper ever!!!

I have been watching you for 4 years now and swear by your videos and in many ways your my hero Keep making videos man
FIRENEXXUS
Thanks buddy! I'm glad you've enjoyed my videos for that long! Plenty more still to come!
Great looking figure, but am I the only one who thinks Rex's head looks a tad bit too small? I don't know if I'm just seeing things
Daniel Smith
No, his head is pretty tiny in comparison to his body.
I bet Wolffe is next, just from you saying a "unique" figure. I bought Captain Rex and had almost the exact same thoughts as you, but the plastic Kama looks good to me. The soft goods kamas looked strange in my opinion.
I plan to get Thorn, Doom, and Wolffe myself soon.
MegaAndBloks TheBlokker Me too, they look so awesome! 👍
MegaAndBloks TheBlokker
Close guess! Wolffe is indeed on the way, but he's not up next!
Doom is!
The figure collector
BINGO!
Imagiane if Rex showed up in Rougue One next year, now THAT would be a sight to see!
Im looking to start collecting black series figures, but im torn between 3.75 and the 6inch, what would you recommend ?
Picked up jawa 2 pack yesterday they r awesome

GREAT review! I love this figure!
Great review. I might have to pick this guy up.

Really? Because they look terrible.

Is rex in scale with marvel universe figures?
Yeah m8 they r 3.75inch figures
Is it just me or do the paint apps look a bit shabby?
Good vid
It’s supposed to be DC-17
Dl-44?
Whatsup with the orange green and silver crap on him?
Kolbie Kelsow
I explained what those markings are in the video...
Obviously another great review, it's a great figure, but just so happens that your figure turned out crap in quality

I don't think it's just my sample alone. I've heard others share similar complaints.
