Yes. What is worse is when parents give their children unsupervised access to these watercraft.
Just like the boys that turned the water into a trash dump. Thank God they were busted. Let's hope that their parents are not so entitled that they get a high priced lawyer so that boy can walk. It was just like a car full of teenagers.

I live down in the Florida Keys in a day does not go by that I don't see one of these monster boats flying past tearing up the bottom while the driver holds his cell phone and looked over his shoulder at the people in the back of the boat. These boats are covering 100 ft in less than 2 seconds and if they turn their head for 6 seconds they can go 300 to 500 ft. They just aren't paying attention, they feel totally safe in their giant fiberglass tanks, they don't see the manatees they don't see the small boats and they don't see the people as a problem. In fact they just don't see them. There should be strict licensing and registration for vessels that are capable of destroying the environment and taking human life . These people should be banned from the water for life

I hate to say it but a head bobbing up and down in the waves is very hard to see from a boat that may have been doing 50 mph or more. That's why I always held my ski up high whenever I went down and other boats were around. I would say that they probably could not see her and never felt the hit, traveling at the speeds that a boat like that with probably at least 400 hp might have been traveling. Does the alleged driver of the boat above even KNOW he ran a person over? I've ran over large logs before and not known until someone in my boat pointed it out. If you ask me, the negligence here is on the people who KNEW she was in the water and apparently did nothing to protect her, not the boat owner who possibly ran her over unknowingly!

My son and I spearfish all around South Florida and have two 3'x5' diver down flags hanging from our t-top anytime we're in the water, and still have boats run right up to us. We also never go out during the weekend or holidays. It's lawless out there unless you catch a fish out of season or 1/4" too short. That’s the cleanest boat I’ve ever seen. No rafts, life jackets, clothes, towels, coolers…nothing. As though someone wiped away any and all evidence of what may have been going on before Ella was killed.

It's how you are taking it, I am sure that if someone can afford that monster boat, they will have a mighty fine lawyer to get them off the hook of responsibility. This young woman died because of incompetence but justice will never be done.

So, is it "incompetence" to drag a kid into a high traffic area and dump her there?
Is it "incompetence" to not get your ski boat turned around in time to retrieve your skier before said traffic hits her (damn near invisible) head?
There's plenty of blame to go around, and the majority isn't on the person driving the boat that hit her.

@@zrxdoug This "high traffic" area that you speak of had witnesses from several other boaters that could see the girl in the water. Why didn't this boat see her in the water?
You say that the boat that was towing her didn't turn around in time, well, yea that happens when a boat hits her before you can get turned around to get her. Plenty of room to make excuses and that's why nothing will be done about it. Next time it may be the same boat running over a smaller craft just because they didn't see them. No incompetence from that boat though, just blame the dead ones.

If it weren't for the fact it was a young girl that was killed, this would be just a boating accident.

a long time ago I was in santa cruz, my brother owned the boat a 16 ' outboard.. my budy was driving and he invited the neighbor to come with us. we threw the anchor overboad but it wasn't tied to the rope We went down to 29 st I said I will swim in and get an anchor. but the driver said let him do it.. Instead of jumping away from the boat he sort off held on and slid off as he did that the driver turned left sending the back with the motor right over him He got hit in the arm and leg down to the bone.. My brother got sued even though he was not there

Total tragedy and sorry for the loss of a beautiful angel. Accidents happen on the water especially in high traffic areas. Boat safely my fellow mariners.

The mainstream media sickens me. That goofy dork "reporter" thought it was "ok" to knock on the door where the boat was parked!?!?! How arrogant!!
