Thank you for actually playing on the same bass with two seperate sets of strings it makes for a way better test rather than using two totally different basses and invalidating any difference heard 👍👍
Hi, I am an amateur Italian bass player and I follow your videos with interest which I find very well done, interesting and also very useful. Thanks and keep it up!. (Forgive my bad English, I used the translator).
Really helpful video, but I still can't decide! I'm all about that bridge pickup with some tone. I find the Labella flats on my P really smooth to play so that might win it over the rounds.
Just my two cents, but I've been playing bass since '79, went pro in '89, and I've never liked flatwounds. You can get the flat sound from round wounds with the tone dialed back, or a mute, or both, but you can't get the crisp round sound from flats. But that's just me..... to each his own.
I've never heard a J sound so warm with both PU's on and tone on full. I don't know if it's that specific bass, the way you eq it or just your playing technique, but it sounds great!
BIG difference. Maybe use better headphones? Flats sound less bright and more bassy while rounds sound sharp and metallic. It's very audible this video is good in that aspect that you clearly hear the difference.
Straight into the interface, think I added a hint of reverb but nothing else. I try and avoid EQing so these videos show as close as possible the pure sound of the bass/strings. Glad you enjoyed the tones, cheers
very nice playing. Both sorts of strings sound good in their own right, it's a matter of taste. As far as I'm concerned, I'm partial to flats for the best sit in the mix.
I like the bright, sharp attack of fresh roundwounds when I'm picking hard. I do like flats, though. I am just getting into them and don't own a set of them yet.
It depends on the context, but flats are killer because the excess noise and frequencies are shaved off, and the mids are more focused. Really glues the fundamental frequencies of the band together while complimenting the guitarist or brass section/ keys

Been contemplating flats on my jazz for a while now, this video is a huge help, thanks! Great playing too!
Been playing bass since 1973. I prefer flat wound strings on my precision basses and have flats on one of my jazz basses. Great sound in the mx!
More subtle than I was expecting
I love your playing style. Hopefully we'll get to hear more of the flats + foam.
Thanks, glad you enjoy this videos. Planning to do flats vs tapes on the Jazz next, so will make sure it includes the foam!

Great sounding bass. Great playing.
I love your videos so much and your playing to, trying to learn these lines
Superb bass playing dude!
very nice playing and thanks for this. very helpful
Great video, thanks for the upload😎

That’s why you get multiple basses 😎 problem solved
That bridge pup has lovely nasal tone😍
Nice playing :)
Wow, i like this tune👌
Very impressive, BRAVO! One question: are the round Nickel or stainless steel?
Beautiful playing style! Could I find this backing track somewhere? I would like to learn what you played here
Me to. I will study this video to try learning it.

I think the foam block is at least one part contributing to this beautiful sound.
@@bokajllensch661 is he using a foam mute? I didn't notice it
@@jack83aq I noticed it at 1:05 and assumed it was there the whole video.
Turn the tone knob back man
same i thought at first its a p bass
Great playing and demo- I really can’t tell a difference in sound- is it more a feel than tone?

Very nice! Did you record straight into your audio interface? EQ/effects? Your tone is amazing

What is the song? Great playing!
Great demo! What kind of flats do you have on the bass? If it was mentioned I missed it.
They are Fender Flatwounds... 45-100. I've found them to be lower tension and pretty cheap compared to others. Cheers

Amazing to think Fender only stopped fitting flats as standard end of 1983.
40 years ago man. Lol yeah I know.
Wow until 83
Got my american fender jazz bass today. It got rounds on. To my embarassment, i don't hear any difference? Am I stupid?
What amp are you playing through?
no amp, just straight into the interface
I‘ll never understand why people don‘t play flats except for slapping.
here in Brazil it's probably because of the price....where the flat ones cost 3x more.
@@fjveoliveira that‘s wrong. Flatwounds last you years.
Because they sound like shit ,that's why.
I like the bright, sharp attack of fresh roundwounds when I'm picking hard.

Many people like crunchy sound, flats doesnt have, but that funky tone in flats its 👌🏼
Ive played labella flats on all my basses for nearly 40 years I cant stand the noise of rounf wounds.
That foam has more to do with the tone than the strings
The only really noticable difference is with slaping!!...
roundwound strings are better
Depends on what you want.
Drums way too loud to hear this properly.
Not a huge difference.
probably old round and EQ
I have never understood the appeal of flatwounds.A dull and lifeless sound,no harmonic overtones, very little clarity etc..
