If you want security they are great, if you want independence and not have a nanny not so much. Most of the time they can be reasonable but you can get into HOAs that are really absurd and think of fines as part of the revenue. Hedge too high, fine, garbage left out a few minutes past the time, fine, windows not clean, fine. So it depends on what HOA you get into. On the positive it keeps the area very clean and secure.

It really depends every community is so different and unique. Some rules in my opinion are a bit absurd while others I’m happy exist! It’s kind of a give and take, I always encourage people to join the board to make changes or learn why certain rules are the way they are. What is a rule that is a total deal breaker for you?

Even security is limited, as Courtney states in point #15. I imagine you're safer in the guarded community, but a 6 foot fence only does so much. There are home invasions and burglaries in guard-gated communities. Some pretty famous ones. Last one I recall was a home invasion of a RUclipsr ( ruclips.net/video/0k02eD6tD2c/видео.html ) that was shot in his bed after several folks broke into his house; they hopped over a fence to get into the neighborhood from the recreation land behind the community.

And exactly where do they park?

My message did not finish on the street just some HOAs do not allow overnight parking or must tell them and can have up to certain days

Looks like having large gatherings could be a problem as far as parking goes. May have to reconsider the gard gated communities😮

Thank you for watching my video as long as you let them know they are very reasonable! You just can’t have people parking on the street overnight typically but every community is different

Wow that’s a pretty intense rule! I thought HOAs were strict but I’ve yet to hear of that rule!

Seeing all of the stories of people squatting and destroying people's homes, would these guard gated communities be able to prevent such incidents?
Do they run radar to catch speeders?
I have had some bad experiences with an HOA before so I am no fan, but I do see some of the pros. They almost prevented the sale of my townhome once as well.
Not sure if any were deal breakers, but they are deterrents. The extremely slow speed limits are close to a deal breaker.
I want to live in a secure place, so there is a debate between tower condos vs guard gated homes.

I feel like being in a guard gated community has its benefits, every HOA is different but in Macdonald and Anthem they have radar for speeding and as much as this can be annoying I do like walking around my neighborhood and see kids on bikes so it’s nice to have to prevent accidents.
