    I love this topic because I’m someone with BPD working at an inpatient treatment facility for people with Substance Use Disorders.

    I don’t have negative consequences with alcohol anymore- I can actually have a life with some vodka/cannabis combo. Chronic pain adds an additional layer to BPD. My doc told me to choose between opioids and cannabis. Cannabis doesn’t take my emotions on a roller coaster. It aids in a positive attitude rather than jumping off a bridge.

    Yeah, I am in recovery from substance abuse and have BPD. It’s been a long road. Isolation and substance abuse go hand and hand. Whatever substance I would choose…..at some point, I would be drinking and using alone. When it comes down to it, it gets dangerous when I am taking anything to modify or change the way I feel. Isolation is what kills alcoholics and addicts. For me, it has been all about changing, “people, places, and things”. I just can’t use or drink successfully. What I learned in NA seems to have been true for alcoholics and addicts, the result is “jails, institutions, and death”. My addict brain tells me I got another party left in me but I don’t have another relapse in me. I favor the disease model for substance abuse, as it does follow the same pathology and trajectory of a disease……and it’s a disease that is always gonna tell ya, “oh, we can have just one more”.

    Thank you so much you guys are amazing. I really wish that you could get your channel into the correctional facility tablet system.. I don't know who makes those decisions but the prison system in Florida uses securus and the jails use connect network. There's free videos on them but it would be so significantly helpful for people to get this channel in there. My partner's been in and out of incarceration for 23 years. Only this past year have I been able to get her to understand there's a mental health component two substance abuse and then realized it was BPD as well. The American addiction center estates 65 to 90% of substance abusers have a personality disorder and with the lack of understanding and treatment it's next to impossible to escape it. They get out they get high they get rearrested and right back in the hamster wheel. I've been on this road with her for 3 years, only one of which knowing it was bpd. My mental health is really suffering. The only treatment she can get is a counselor once a month and that's only recent since she went to prison, as jail has nothing. As well as the books that I sent to her. This channel, especially this video, would be so helpful for the many people suffering in there. She found that there were many others like her once we started doing the workbook from Dr fox. I will send one chapter at a time through the jail message system and then she would call me and we go over it. But while she was working on it in the jail other inmates would ask her what was going on and when she told them they related. There is so much help that's needed in there because they really don't have a good shot when they get out. You know how imperative it is that both disorders are treated simultaneously. That's why the failure rate is so high. I can only imagine that that must pile on the feeling of shame and guilt with each failure. I don't know what it would encompass but maybe you could look into getting this channel on to those systems? Thanks again for all you do. And thank you for validating the family. It really is so hard and I don't have anyone but her so I suffer in silence as much as I can. But that's not healthy and often winds up in a resentment building up and eventually coming out wrong. So anyway thanks for that validation

    Stupidly, my substance abuse started in part of me trying to help who ended up becoming my FB in their addiction. I did all the research but i couldnt understand the lure of the high without expereincing it.... so i used the substance with him and within seconds my brain went silent for the first time and i felt no bad feelings only the really good ones. Then for the next 12 months, the friendship with the FP became all about the substance use together. This also was interwoven into the codependency we had for the first 6 months.
    If i never met my FP, i honestly believe my life would be better off.

    I have BPD and I am an addict. In recovery for both. My subtance use was my coping mechanism, then became a problem bc i am an addict. In order to stop the subtance abuse i had to go to rehab, and I go to NA / AA meetings on a regulsr basis. No more alcohol and No more drugs. Only being clean i have been able to work with my BPD. I have been sober for over 3 years. I have to say thst my addiction shows in other factor, such as food, shopping, tattoos, anything! I am working on trying to find balance i these areas. But i know for sure that subtance abuse has to be 0 tolerance.

    Xannie, have you ever made a video talking about your experience with BPD plus an eating disorder? I’ve watched a bunch of your videos and I’ve heard you mention you had an ED when your were younger, same here. I really resonant with that intersection of BPD + ED + substance use.

    I'm actually allergic to alcohol is I drink too much alcohol (not gluten free) days later I get sick. I got GERD and now hives. I broke down today when SS called me and they believed that I was struggling to find work and then told me they would send me the Book of John. I'm not religious but I accepted it. lol! Been so lethargic lately and just sick. But alcohol was my drug of choice then it went to weed. I don't think I'll ever touch non gluten free alcohol it's not as bad with gluten free but if I'm gonna drink more then I should it's gonna lead to acid reflex. I've also gotten CDIFF from antibiotics I took from a dental procedure so that was my sign to stop drinking or at least cut back. Sooooooo I try my best to stay away from things that are toxic for my body. I'm just feeling so crappy right now and am afraid I have MS because it's always something my body is just shutting down and I'm always angry and or stressed out. Thanks for sharing I can relate as usual. Not sure if my problems are from Auditory Processing Disorder and or BPD though but it's tough.

    Is an extreme BPD curable ?

    • @thebpdbunch
      @thebpdbunch  7 месяцев назад +1

      It’s possible for someone who has had an extreme expression of BPD to get to the point where they no longer qualify for a diagnosis. Whether that will occur for a specific individual or not depends on a wide variety of different factors.

    Yeah this is my fav topic. Alcohol is my drug of choice would drink uncontrollably wether is it was in a social situation or by myself on a work/school night, but my main problem was cocaine, I would just spend all my money not give a fuck and I even preferred doing it alone. I remember when my roommate was not in town, the whole day I couldn’t wait to to do a bunch of blow (but essentially what I was doing was purposefully isolating myself and wanting to be manic asf I would go through 8balla a night (at most) and do shit like write books, suicide letters, cutting myself, and sometimes just stare at the plate of coke the whole time. Honestly gives me PTSD now cause ion like that shit anymore but it’s just because they prescribed me amphetamines for my ADHD and I am basically hypomanic the whole day and love it. It’s funny cause I would go to university on this medication and drinking whiskey the whole day and I am still on top of everything and have better grades then everyone I know😂😂

    I have Never ever met an addict that can "use" with success. Be careful you don't make ppl think it is okay to drink and take drugs. I think thst any person with BPD should obstaine from subtance. It triggers us.

    Any addict who relapsed has shame and guilt.
    NA is not about the drugs but the action of addiction in any form.
