The single best moment is when Chris looks right at Ann and with the most genuine of intentions says, "Hello Ann Perkins, my fallopian princess." Everything is perfect about the delivery, especially the way he pronounces "princess." Chris was my favorite character, he just made me want to be as positive as him.

Oh thank you for this! Parks and Recreation is one of the most earnest and optimistic show ever. These qualities are often shove away on TV sitcoms for bursting comedy or overly dramatic loveline, but the simplicity of this show just makes it even richer or unexpected laughs. I love all the characters and that’s enough to keep me hook from episodes to episodes.
My all time fav. will always be Ron and Leslie patching up episode because they really are the heart and soul of this series.

At 10:38 Michael Schur talking about the difference between network comedy vs. streaming show comedy is dead on. Mitch Hurwitz bungled comeback Arrested Development precisely for this reason- his sandbox was too big. There’s a reason why we’ve yet to get an endlessly rewatchable uber popular sitcom from a streamer, and he nails it.

I love the way this show manages to be so funny and have so much warmth and heart at the same time. That’s a very difficult thing to pull off- avoiding feeling overly sentimental and sugary, and being kind and good natured yet still funny, when so much other comedy relies on being cold hearted. And yet so funny- just seeing Jean Ralfio again on the screen made me laugh out without him even saying anything

I think it is rare to have a show that both the actors, production crew and audience arrive at the understanding that we are sharing in something that is unique and special that connects with all of us. I realize that TV is a business and Parks and Rec didn't have a strong enough following at the time to justify keep going. That being said, it seems like a fine wine it has gotten better with age and I think it would be very special to revisit it.

A couple of years ago, I wrote an entire thesis on parks and rec, the way the show emerged after the 2008 economic crisis and how it dealt with the growing issues between Democrats and Republicans. I got a very good grade on it but was never sure if my analysis was on point. This video basically confirmed all of my findings and it’s such a great feeling to hear it directly from the writers.

Love the show, but something that bothers me when I rewatch it is just how silly and out-of-place the mockumentary format is. Like, why? Why are people talking to the camera? The conceit doesn't work. There is no overarching "documentary" like in The Office.

Parks was conceived as a spin-off of the Office. A copier was going to break on the Office and they were going to send it to Pawnee to get fixed, and thats how Parks would get started. When they started developing Parks they realized it would be better to let it stand alone. The mockumentary thing is a leftover from when it was a spin off.

The first 2 seasons I was not a big fan of. When Ben and Chris came and season 3 started, I think the show really took off

Ugh I love the West Wing (and parks and rec)! both of these shows are probably the explanation for my ill-fated political science minor (RIP 2019-2019)

@John Doe It wasn't a conscious decision but the show gave me an idealized view of politics that made me think it was something I was interested in doing. It is not.

@@BehindtheCurtain it's the first notification I've had from YT about your channel (been subscribed since 2nd vid) but I try to make an effort to check your channel regular for new content since YT sucks. I hope the notification system improves for everyone, but especially for great content creators like your channel

Ah interesting. Welp, that sucks! Wish my subscribers would actually see my videos. Views have been down recently. Oh well, I'm just gonna push through and keep making the same quality video. Thank you for watching them!

@@BehindtheCurtain your videos are awesome and unique, I've recommended to a few friends (which is rare for me!) and everyone has enjoyed. I'll just keep trying to game the algorithm by commenting and liking and rewatching... hopefully something changes for you soon!
