Looking at the pitch, it appears that he throws a variation of a splitter and fork. Some of them look like a basic splitter, a bit faster and less downward motion. Then occasionally he really torques and snaps it and it gets that slow forkball action where it just falls off the table. Throwing that forkball has to be really taxing. I looks like he only threw one forkball in this clip (the last pitch he threw), the rest were splitters, imo. That makes it even harder to hit, because there appears to be about 10mph difference in the two, and they probably look about the same coming out of his hand. Add a nasty FB and a curve/slider to that? Yeah, he's gonna rack up ks. One thing I will say is his FB looks very hittable. You are going to see guys go to the plate swinging against him. Not the kind of pitcher you want to face with 2 strikes. You could get about 6 variations of 3 pitches from him.
This is actually not a splitter but a forkball..Forkballs have your 2 fingers split around the ball more than a Splitfinger pitch itself. There are plenty of videos that can show this better lol...the difference between a 4-seam fastball & a Forkball is about 20pmph (splitfinger will be about 10pmh slower, Forks are slower) with different rotation of the ball itself. The stop & drop action of the Forkball is similar to a changeup...Pitching is all about keeping the batter off balance so setting them up with a straight fastball & after than you can play with the hitter some
No mention about his fork?
It’s the splitter they show. He does throw more of a fork than a split but they’re similar pitches
They don’t use forks in Japan 😂
It’s dogshit mlb network what do you expect?
It's a ghost pitch you can't see it 😎

The dude is known for his ghost forkball. Check out the Jomboy profile for way more detail.
I wonder. If he will learn from the two aces on this team.
Assuming that he’s going to adjust well he’s a third ace lol
ほぼエースになってしまった😂
The spoon is the pitch to watch out for.
HAHA
Nah it's the spork to really watch out for
im new to baseball, how can you tell a fastball to a splitter..cuz it look almost the same in this video.
It dives down and away on lefties and its slower.
that's what makes his so nasty. It drops very late and it looks like a fastball to hitters
As a player, you could see the seams. On a fastball, it's just white unless they don't throw hard

@@ElectrikNYCfunK his split is only like -9ish off of his fastball and still has backspin and a little side spin so basically still a split
Splitter montage with Japanese MLBer… but excludes the best in the game from Shohei lol
shohei’s split doesn’t really have the arm-side run that these guys do, though
People just want to find any excuse to ride Ohtani’s nuts these days don’t worry
@@robertbradley3320 The real question you should be asking yourself is why wouldn't you want to ride his nuts.
Different styles of pitches
