    After being very Inspired by Japanese minimalist Sibu, I have decided to declutter almost everything else I own. This is going to be over the course of a couple of weeks, so I can take my time to be mindful about what I will be decluttering. Mindfulness also being a part of my journey to an amplified extreme minimalist home.
    I have always been on a journey of extreme minimalism as I often live in tiny homes. That simply do not have the space to give over to any extra stuff or possessions. However, as someone who also values home interior, interior design, minimalist design & minimalist style. I do not want to simply get rid of stuff to own less. I want to do so but keep my home orderly, stylish & aesthetic. I think extreme minimalists like Sibu & Youheum Son have proved to us this is possible. If it is a value that we care about. Many extreme minimalists are simply practical. Not caring too much about the aesthetic of their home or apartment. For myself however, when something is not coordinated or tidy and is simply less stuff, it can still become visual noise and clutter, if not stowed away efficiently. This is my goal over the coming weeks.
    To create a super extreme minimalist home that is also aesthetic, stylish, efficient, intentional and sustainable. Moreover, with the use of natural materials. Which I feel creates an organic warm minimalist home despite how few items we may have. 😊

    This is the thing about extreme minimalism... something always inspires you. Like, for example, if I fixed my diet, I wouldn't need protein powder and iron supplements and things like a larger kettle and tea bags and mugs etc and all that waste that comes with it. Plus, the dependency of it all. And tbh, if I fixed my anxieties [or how I handled them] I probably half the medicine I need to use. And besides the protein powder and hot water bottle, my medicines for me and my toddler already all fit in a large makeup bag. At least, this is my current realisation.

    The unnecessary extra long white curtains I had in my bedroom made the room feel visually more cluttered to me than the perfect length yellow curtains I have up right now. Thank You. I like my curtains to be floor length to stop drafts in this very old building. However in this video I had only just moved them so they still needed to be taken up to meet the floor length. They had been moved from a much higher curtain rail. They have since been taken up to meet the floor. Welcome 😊

    I don’t know if you will like getting a large blanket that spans the length of the sofa. Visually, it will take up more space, it’s not as easy to grab and move around, it will take up more wash time as well. Just something to think about. Especially since you enjoy your smaller one. However if you want the larger one for the bed , that may be a nice option.
    Theres no right or wrong decision, just something to think about.

    • @SagelifeMinimalism

    Love this! Extreme minimalism is so peacedul and aesthetic to me...not sterile. I agree that curtains can make a room feel more full. We had cellular blinds installed in our home, and wow they are so clean and fresh, and can be lifted away and essentially become invisible. I know you dont own your apartment and you plan on travelling, so I wouldnt put my money into that. You're doing the best you can where you are! 😊 Thanks again for your vidoes. 🤍

    I have a thought about that under 20 items room that still feels busy to you, I wonder if it's the fact that you can see into what I think is the kitchen (I've been mostly listening rather than watching while I also declutter). You can see the shelves, the cutting board, a variety of stuff in there, and it distracts from that minimal-ness of the white room which really does look so empty. I agree about the heavy curtains too - and I think that just having shorter curtains that don't trail on the floor could make a big difference in that sense as well - but I wonder if it would improve that minimal feel for you, to have something like a white lace curtain separating that room from the kitchen, and keeping that busyness out of sight. Going to keep watching now, thanks so much for the videos, it's really great to go through this process alongside someone else!

    • @SagelifeMinimalism
      @SagelifeMinimalism  2 дня назад +2

      Thank You 😊 I have since pinned the curtains up to just touching the floor length. And the room feels abit lighter in every way. One feature I actually really like about the room is the little archway. So I can see your point but I don’t think I’d like to cover that up. Also from where we sit in the room it’s not possible to see round that corner most of the time to the chopping boards etc. We mainly can see the sink wall. As I really enjoy wabi Sabi design. I’m currently just enjoying in the kitchen only having my wabi Sabi fruit bowl out and the olive wood chopping boards and a plant. They are like decor but useful 😂 Thank You for your thoughtful comment 😊

    I was wondering how your last video would inspire you. It inspired me too.
    I was thinking of curtains. Is there a function having them laying on the floor? If not, hemming them so they are just aabove the floor (I use a fingers width as a meassure between floor and curtain), that could give a slimmed down look. Just cheating a little an pinning them up is a good way to test the theory. I do agree that the black curtain rod stands out a lot against the white wall. It's tricky to find the right balance.
    You are doing an amazing job with the downsizing. I wish i could have a clear home like yours.

      @extrememinimalism 😂 it’s ok everyone usually needs to be shown or told first otherwise how do we learn 😊. In the uk you can by a small amount pre mixed for you for £1 in the pound shop or places like b&q. You get something flat to smear it on. I usually use my library card 😂 (no tools needed 😂) Then wash my card before it dries 😂. You then scrape it back to flat and smooth against the contour of the wall. Takes 30 seconds. Leave it overnight to dry. Then if you havnt managed to get it completely flat against the wall. Get a piece of sandpaper and sand it down to smooth. So none of the dried filler mix sticks out further than the hole. Then your ready to paint over 🙌 😂 wallah

    This is so facinating, tnx for sharing.. BUT HOW do you even cocider sharing the blankie 🤣 no but serious question: i live alone, and i really prefer having my own stuff even if in relationship, and i am a person that needs space and oportunity to sit alone under a blankie but occationally likes sharing. How should i approach this kinda «issue»? Like im a little aftaid of this mine and yours mindset would come in the way of truly exploring minimalism.. i am not right now but im more minimal than most. I have some selected things or hobbies i have more of, like books, but i have only the ones i reeeally loved or plan on reread. Im not shure i will be your level minimal but its fun to experiment.
    One thing ive actually found is that i have two ish wardrobes, and i use up my clothes, wash and use them again all season long. And its approx 15 items summer/winter, never use the rest of the wardrobe. This made me want to try and declutter even more of my wardrobe (i already have less than most, around 90 items) and then enter a capsule wardrobe only. Mby even declutter absolutely everything and start with a completely new canvas (in the most sustainable way i know, buying eco, second hand and high quality) bc i dont really love any of my items…

    • @SagelifeMinimalism
      @SagelifeMinimalism  Месяц назад +2

      I think when we meet the right people in our lives, and this can be a true friendship or relationship. We begin to understand each other on a superior level and sometimes we don’t really need words to explain what is mine and yours. Your actions around certain items you treasure will be clear to any friend or partner. They will know you show your items care and respect and so do the same. For instance, I have never said to my partner - this laptop 💻 is mine, you can’t use it. He knows it’s mine. He knows I need it for work, so he wouldn’t dream of going on it. On a smaller scale, if there’s something he’s unsure of, he’d say is it ok if I borrow this. Because he knows it’s something I mainly use. I do the same for him. Ie: I borrow his drill. We have a mutual understanding of the items that are important to one another. And I think it’s fine to be independent and want your own space and things. The blanket thing: it’s just more convenient for us to have one super long blanket, that will spread over us both than having to constantly put away 2 blankets everyday 😊. When we meet the right people, we often don’t feel we are sharing because some elements of our lives become 1. But not our independence, our thoughts or our minds. We all still retain our individuality 😊 You sound like you are doing well at minimizing 😊

      I am hoping to start traveling very soon which is why I’m doing it now. I want to do it now so I can declutter responsibly. As sometimes selling some items can take quite awhile. I think small details like my rug, mirror, plants, glass table, linen curtains, lavender and sage bunches give my home some warmth and comfort still. We all have varying levels of how much stuff and what we need to keep to feel comfortable. I liked the orderliness of Sibu’s home. But I actually prefer warm materials like wood, bamboo & fabric. They will always be present in my home.

    You asked why the room doesn’t feel as minimal as you would like it at 19:55. I have a suggestion. Paint the legs of the table and chairs the same color as the walls. You might not want a project but from that angle that is the thing that sticks out to me.

      I really like my table and chairs and I bought them for the very beautiful mango wood finish. They were also quite expensive and I need to be able to resell when I leave. Wood and white is also the aesthetic that I have throughout my whole home. As I think this is a good way to achieve a warm version of minimalism by using visibly natural materials. It’s the only thing I actually do like to be visible. I’m not going for a completely blank room. Simply a room that showcases my favourite and utilised items 😊My favourite thing to showcase is most definitely wood 🪵 😊 I have all wood handles in my kitchen for instance and wood shelves. 😊

    The curtains are ill-fitting. Hem them and you'll get a more minimal look.

      He I’d only just moved them. I should probably have said I planned to do something with the bottom. I just wanted to see what it would look like with the outer ones gone.

    To me those curtains are far too long and cause far too much clutter in the window area. Also that mirror needs to be moved a little to the planter away from the back of sofa, its not an even look

      The curtains you left are nice but still too long, and cause an appearance of clutter .

      @joylove2349 I am in the process of having the other linen curtains taken up as I’ve only recently moved them from the higher curtain rail. Which they were the perfect height for. As they just touched the floor. The Pond Mirror is central as we measured it. It also creates an optical illusion because of the chimney breast, alcove and then asymmetrical shape of the mirror. So in terms of placement it actually couldn’t be more symmetrical as we measured it. Also if we were to position it more over to the left, it would look very uneven because of the diagonal line of the chimney breast.

    The curtains are too long, why are they pulled on the floor like that? That's the opposite of minimal

      I did explain in the video that I had only just done it. I hadn’t physically had time to have them taken up yet? Also I’m not sure if you are referring to curtains reaching the floor in general or that these needed taking up. In general the longer the curtains the more insulating and light blocked out with no gaps around the window. It’s can be cold in the winter, Yet bright til late in the summer in the uk. Longer curtains help with this.

    Get rid of the sofa - way too big for the space. Absolute eyesore. Makes no sense. You can hardly turn around in that space. A few comfortable chairs would make more sense. Need a nap? Use the bedroom. If guests come, throw some pillows on the floor. Keep the bamboo stool. Get rid of the black rail. Curtains add heaviness, and dust to a space. Pity you have carpeted floors. I appreciate your efforts but......

      It’s rented accommodation so nothing I can do about carpets. When I plan my space I don’t just think about the space but what the space will be used for. I personally hate chairs. I can’t get comfy in them. We also don’t entertain that often in groups. However we do occasionally house the odd friend that will sleep overnight on the sofa. So it needs to be long enough for this. Also I have my partner to think about who is 6 foot and loves to lay out on the sofa as we watch our projector. Our living room is definitely more like a home theatre room. In fact the last thing I would ever declutter from the room would be the sofa as it fits all our needs. The black rail I already said I was decluttering but was waiting to make sure I was positive about getting rid of the other curtains. As we also have warmth to think about not just aesthetic. These old properties get very cold without thick curtains. That’s another reason we like a sofa. So my partner and I can cuddle up together to keep warm. Not on separate chairs.

      @@SagelifeMinimalism Do you like sofa beds? You can get 2 seater versions. Or you could get a blow up bed or one of those futon folding mattress things.

      @extrememinimalism I cannot consider getting a smaller sofa. My partner is 6 foot tall and when he lays on the sofa I have about 2 foot of space at the bottom already 😂 I personally love corner sofas because they are almost 2 beds 😂 ie: if a friend has an emergency and wants to stay over it’s just there. Doesn’t need folding out or anything. Plus my partner loves our sofa 😂 I once lived in a studio that had a wall bed. You know the ones that fully go up into the wall when not being used. That was fun 😂 it gave me lots of space in the day and you just had to lift it up because it was spring loaded. 😊

      I like the sofa. It looks a nice place to relax and also to cuddle up on. A few chairs would be more items of furniture and also you can’t cuddle up on single chairs. Also if it’s practical to you then you shouldn’t spend out on something else. Everyone has different opinions and levels of minimalism and I think people need to appreciate that what works for us or makes us happy will not be the same for others. I’ve just discovered your channel and I think it’s very inspiring and you’re a natural 🙂.
