Though this live performance was not as good as expected, respect JerryC arrangement of Canon Rock is still the BEST!! His creativity is the key to make this song famous, even people who seldom listen to rock music would feel motivated, of course thanks to Pachelbel's brilliant melodic chorus. FYI, Yngwie Malmsteen also has a rock version of Canon before Jerryc's Canon Rock (so Jerry is not the first musician playing rock version of Canon), yet Yngwie's Canon version arrangement was just 'flat' (average) regardless Yngwie's live performance is better. In the other hand, JerryC had put lots of ideas from classical intro, fast mood intro distortion, harmonic pitching, energetic chorus, percussion+tapping bridge session, malmsteen style solo, climax arpeggios, transposed D-minor chorus, pentatonic scale tapping till ending its PERFECT! all in one piece of 5.30minutes track but feels like 3minutes! What I can say it's a masterpiece! Salute JerryC! It's been decades, I'm still listening your Canon Rock!
No he was not, there was technical problem actually someone explained earlier what exactly happened and why sound quality isn't as good as it should've been
What you mean to say is that the way how his guitar was recorded is too pure to be able to hide all the fuck ups he did with being slightly out of tune the entire time and having shitty bending and vibrato, and overall sloppy technique. He missed so many notes but hid them with "speed." He fucked up every single sweep pick he did. This just goes to show how much distortion, compression, reverb, delay, and blending in with the backing track can hide all your terrible playing. Don't get me wrong, he's still good, but honestly not nearly as good as other players younger and older than him who can play much cleaner, faster, and accurately than he can. I'm not sure if this is actually him playing. At least I'd hope not. I'm thinking maybe some dude who uploaded this tried to overdub it. No offense to Jerry C, but yea this is just what happens when you got nothing to hide your playing... all the sloppiness and shit really comes out.
You seem extremely jealous. Also, this version IS distorted, so how is this an example of not having distortion to hide imperfections? Every rock guitarist does that to some degree anyway, and the speed at which he plays means there's gonna be missed notes or half-hit notes.
GozerTheGozerian I'm not talking about distortion, I'm talking about how since he's not using reverb and delay to hide is blaring mistakes, it's really easy to hear them, and his playing sounds horrible. And no he shouldn't be makin mistakes at that speed to his own cover version of that wedding song. It's a pretty slow speed compared to thousands of other metal songs, and not hard to play compared to millions of others. If you wanna see hard try Joe Satriani, Jason Becker, Polyphia, Symphony X. There's just no excuse for his completely sloppy technique in this video. Sounds like he just learned it yesterday at half speed.
I don't know about the people who says it doesn't sound as good as how he originally did it, etc. This live performance still sounds so amazing. I'm not a pro guitarist (in fact, I'm still on basics), but this performance is as insane with what he did 8 years ago, even without the overdrives/effects (beautifully raw!) Playing live is not easy, takes practice to adapt to the sound traveling long distances, return from monitors, managing the adrenaline that accelerates your brain's metronome, distractions of any kind. He could have had his friends (or just showed up on a local bar, they would let him play there for a month or more, he's damn Jerry C) and rehearsal before this event. He is an amazing guitar player, he can do better than this, unpolished diamond.
