In the commentary for the Blu-Ray release of this movie, director George Miller says that this dog was rescued from an animal shelter. He sent someone from the production company down to the local dog pound and they noticed this dog, how alert and friendly it was. The dog was actually scheduled to be euthanized. In the commentary, Miller calls the dog a "little star" and "a natural actor". It wasn't a trained stunt dog. Everything it does in the movie it did on its own.
Also, the dog loved the actor who played the Gyroscope captain. Therefore making it really difficult to film the parts where the dog was supposed to attack him.
I have a red heeler, (red version of the dog) and I can attest they are VERY intelligent. I'm not surprised the dog took well to commands, they are a working dog through and through.
theres a dog named "dogmeat" in the fallout video game series in tribute to this dog. too bad he dies in the end of the first game "sniff" i sure loved that dog
Weird that they made fallout 4s dog a German Shepard instead of a heeler but then again Bethesda took over and if it was from the original I'm assuming the bases for the dog had changed then lol
Now this is what I'm talking about. I like dogs. I enjoy how Max has a dog in the first flim too. I just wish he'd lived through whole second and third movies as well. I hope it happens that way in the fourth Mad Max movie.
I have a blue heeler she is a fantastic dog, totally forgot about "Dog" and how much I loved this dog when I saw this film years ago... what a fab reminder. Best dogs ever...check out my Diesel she has one eye patch like dog...great film, got to buy a copy immediately!! :)
At one time they were one breed of dog mixed with dingo. The rest of the breeds were added later. Some ACD may or may not be mixed with some of the breeds you mentioned. As long as they were able to do the work it didn't matter.
This has been clarified in recent years thanks to historical research. They are descended from a cross of Dingo and Northumberland Drover’s Dog, which was a sort of blue and white furred proto-Border Collie that was imported by Hall.
ROFLMFAO!!! That shit is sooooooooo funny as HELL!!! It would have been funnier if that dog was to yank that shotgun's trigger and blown the Gryo Captain's head clean off!
true, but with how comfortable the dog was here, this isn't the first time that dog has basically had control over the trigger of a shotgun while holding a hostage.
The dog should've won an Oscar for this scene.
Dog is one of the greatest post-apocalypse heroes.
Dog is the real star of the movie
I'm on my 4th Australian Cattle Dog..,best dog EVER
How do you teach this to a dog?
"All right dog, now that you're properly paper trained let's teach you how to handle hostages"
yeah lol.

Which is why the dog always attacks the scarf Bruce was playing tug-of-war with it

Darn i love that dog!!
Did you know that A.C.D.'s are a breed made up of Dingo, Scottish Highlands Smooth Coated Collie, Black and Tan Kelpie, Dalmation, and Bull Terrier?

The dog is in the newest fallout game as well.
Yeah, this scene was excellent, but the shotgun was empty (it's shown later in the movie).

Lol
do not fuck the dog off
mmmmmmm albondiga de fallout 3 xD
What is the dogs name? Does he ever refer to it by name? I cant find.
Dog. that's all. which for Max makes sense, he barely goes by a name himself.
Ask mr. Coffman about nephatali-hash-boran
what the name of the dog?
the character or the dog that was used in the film? because the dog is just called Dog in the film.
Just “Dog” in the movie. The original script had a 3 legged ACD named Trike accompanying Max, however.
