  • Vintage Guitars has lot of new stuff for 2020. Love those "Range of Eight" guitars inspired by story telling, and the new Pro Series seems pretty awesome, too.

Vintage make really good quality guitars. At that price point it's tough to match them for play ability. However, I'm really not a fan of their distressed look. It would have been really nice to see some more new, non-distressed models from Vintage this year. Great coverage Steve!

The icon series that are distressed also have the same available usually un reliced . I like the relic sunburs tele v59

I really like Vintage guitars but I wish they'd do a bit better job regarding their relicing. That's the one things that turns me off about them as it just doesn't look natural wear to me.

    • @Bogallan

I like Vintage guitars, too and own several but I agree that their relicing is awful. I'm not a great fan of artificial relicing, but if you're going to do it at all, do it properly. The relicing on their guitars is not reproduced wear and tear by sanding but, as far as I can tell, the wear pattern is just stencilled spray. It might impress a 14 year old wannabe at 100 yards... but anyone else? At the price point you can't realistically expect anything better, so why bother with it at all? It's just naff.
The only reliced Vintage I have is the PG Lemon Drop Les Paul with the old style neck joint. At the time I got it, you could only get the reliced version. It's a great guitar, but the reliced paintwork? Sheesh! Even on their non-reliced models the acrylic is really THICK.

Spent £10’s of thousands on genuine fenders and Gibson’s over the years. Just spent £150 on a used vintage strat, and love it. Going to get some more for sure.

Is it just me or does sanding a few edges, leaving most of the guitar shinny and new--not look aged! Just looks--fake? Like those ball caps where they wear out just the edge of the bill of the cap.

In my opinion, the relic doesn't look good, but I feel like it would be hard to do a proper relic job on a 400 dollar guitar.

Fender appear more relaxed than Gibson are about other guitar companies copying their designs. Looking at Vintage's range here as an example, it appears to me that Vintage are having to change the designs of their Gibson copies more than their Fender copies. For the Fender copies there is just a very slight change to the headstock designs on the Vintage versions, the body shapes of their Strats and Teles appear the same. Looking at the Gibson copies, taking the 335 copies as an example on the Vintage copies not only is one of the horns set lower but also if you look at the body the lower bout bulges!

Why people are buying "relic" guitars is beyond me; they're for posers who want people to think they have an old guitar. It's truly ridiculous. I have a 48-year-old Tele that doesn't look as beat-up as these guitars. That Tele at 4:30 is laughable.

They are great guitars for the money, however, resale value is practically nothing and their ES335 models have been a horrible mess since 2013 when they introduced the offsets on the lower horn and extended lower bouts. Also, after sales is practically non-existent. I asked them a simple question about tuners by email and they couldnt be bothered to get back to me!

@@alanneale3657 well I'm glad you made yourself laugh cos your point is complete nonsense. You do get that ANY guitar can be roadworn right? Wear isn't exclusive to 60's fenders. You can buy a squier for 200 bucks in 2010, gig the shit out of it for 10 years and... Oh my god you've got a genuine, road worn guitar! Does it make that guitar worth thousands? Or does it just make it a guitar with honest wear as opposed to obviously new guitars with a shitty attempt at faux aging?

I dont believe in ruining a guitar by pretending its old and worn by relicing it .a guitar is played practiced on dragged around the world 🌎 and repeat for 20 years or so then it has earned a reputation as its sound improves from tech tinkering with it changing parts as its maybe modified for better sound the electronics and hardware get worn some items get replaced over the years it gets dropped it falls over when leaning against a cabinet and so on as the frets and fingerboard gets worn in and it develops its on unique sound that no other can reproduce then its earned its scars and the many many stories as it might be sold and passed along to other musicians nothing can accurately represent a natural aging process thats earn between the guitar and the artist and techs .
