  • Today I share a review of my 1st month on ADHD medication along with the plan for the next month. I have struggled with ADHD since childhood without medication and finally asked my Dr for help. She prescribed me a generic Concerta (Methylphenidate) 27mg to start, then switched me to Adderall XR 20mg (amphetamine/dextroamphetamine salts). We will be adding a booster does of instant release Adderall for work days. Join me on this journey. Thank you for your support and kind words. Much love!

You explained that really well and as a mum of an ADHD daughter, aged 18, I appreciate the insight you provide into how it feels to live with ADHD and the benefits of being on meds.

Thanks for sharing. I'm 35, female with ADHD. Hopefully getting meds in about a month or two. I'm both looking forward to it and dreading it. Never been very glad to take meds and always avoid it if I can. But knowing what I know about how much my ADHD is making my life harder, I'm going to give meds a fair shot.
Please make more updates! It's very helpful to hear both details on your days as well as what's generally gotten better like sleep.

I used to have brain fog, but changed diet to exclude carbs and any sweet stuff as much as possible, also while I was changing diet I took high doses of vitamins C Ester, zinc and MSM. The MSM made the quickest good result.

Then you didn't have ADHD. You can't fix ADHD with diet because you can't eat dopamine.

Thank you for sharing the intricacy of your dosing experiences. Diagnosed yesterday at 42 after a life of constant struggle. Hope my doc is as cooperative as yours so I have the agency to apply some of your ideas.

The generic versions of Concerta don’t use the OROS (osmosis) delivery system. That’s apparently what makes Concerta unique, but you only get that with brand name.

This video was helpful for me... thank you! I use 20mg XR & 10mg IR in afternoon. I seem to drop at around 2pm w/o the 10 IR. I too get so anxiety ridden & spastic feeling if i were to take benadryl. 😮

I am 44yrs old and yesterday was my first day on Concerta. It made me feel mildly more calm. I was far less frustrated and I slept the entire night for the first time in god only knows how long. It was only a 18mg dose for the first week. Then I will double the dose after the first week. Today I already feel less focused than the first day. The effects lasted about 8 hrs. I was noticeably more happy and the little things that would drive me crazy didn't bother me.

My experience is that you're on a good dosage of the right drug when you're not sure if it's working or not, but then look at what you did on it last week and you're astounded. It means the dosage isn't too low and doing nothing, and isn't too high and giving euphoria and side effects.

Wishing you both the best on your journey. All I can suggest is keeping a note book and writing everything down from what's working/helping, what's not, side effects and talking to the Dr a lot. I see my Dr once a month in person but email daily/weekly when starting a new medication. It took me 6months and 5 different meds to finally find the right medication, dose, and timing.

Should make people aware that because more people are "ADHD" that we now have a national shortage and it's really messing with people who have been on the medication for years. We can't get our meds because hundreds of new people all of a sudden need medicine. I think it's important people know this because it isn't a medication you can go on and off of easily. Best of luck on your journey!

I'd encourage you to consider that the rise in ADHD diagnoses correspond with more people presenting with symptoms of ADHD compared to any other time in history.
You seem to imply that people are faking it, or don't suffer as much as you do. Further, you make it seem like your specific case demands access to medication above other people with "ADHD". Interesting. I hope I'm wrong.
