- Luciano Pavarotti sings A te o cara from act I of Bellini's I Puritani. Joan Sutherland is singing Elvira.
This is a sensational performance, beautifully sung.
Live 1976 - I Puritani - The Metropolitan opera orchestra conducted by Richard Bonynge
The Human race is privileged to have the technology to record and keep this musical miracle for the next generations
RIP Maestro!!!
We are all PRIVILEGED to have heard this recording ...
The incomparable Joan Sutherland.
The finest voice ever in his prime....
I saw them right here at the Met in 1976. While Pavarotti is one of my heroes, I must admit that Sutherland's stage presence and power was even more then. One of the highlights of my life!
Bravi! Lucky you. I too, was in awe of Sutherland. They were meant for each other.
Oh tell us what it was like, those of us who never saw him sing in person, we would love to hear any information you would like to share.
Incomparabile voce Donizzettiana!
After hearing beauty such as this my life is fulfilled!
They were my most beloved singing couple when I was younger. Today Luciano is my dearest memory. I Puritani is one of my favourite operas. Thanks for sharing !!
And Joan, have you forgotten about her now that you’re older and only have “The Big P” on your mind?? Never fear, but I will remember Joan for you, for me, FOREVERMORE!!!
Favorite tenor: Pavarotti, Corelli, Lanza.
Favorite soprano: Sutherland, Sutherland, Sutherland.
The most Beautiful tenor Voice!!! Love you Pav...lov you
ἄκουσε καὶ τὸν Lauri Volpi!!!
Pavarotti was the best tenor ever!
RIP to two tremendous singers
Luciano ou la perfection faite homme ! Bravo aussi à Joan Sutherland!
Voce splendida e dizione perfetta
And look at that beautiful young Joan Sutherland. MY goodness - what a treat this is (:
Just unbelievable. Their like will not been seen (or heard) again!
Never ever! Impossible!
Isn’t it interesting how we pick apart the greatest singers who ever lived.
sensational is right, just thrilling, you cant help but be amazed at the voice, and the things he encourages it to do. WOW
What a beautiful melody! And they sang beautifully together!
God bless Luciano, such thrills he gave us.Here Joan Sutherland is stunning, that rich, steely sound....his aria, she steals he scene..
She only has a few lines.
Brava, Prima Donna Assoluta!
Meraviglioso.....!!!
This is a throw back to the real-deal.
I can only guess that S and P -etc, are the closest we can imagine to the original.
Thank-God it is recorded.
May they sing for ever in heaven.
I cannot help but have tears>
Maestro di Coro -Indpls Opera.
Bravo, maestro!
Grazie💗
Straordinarip!
I was there.
Ohhhh ! I envy you
Mai nessuno come Pavarotti!
No comes close to the great Pavarotti. He was the greatest. Grace
This was certainly magnificent stuff with the great man at his best, when Grand Opera was really Grand Ooera,,fantastic
Wonderful.
BRAVISSIME!!!
His voice here is much darcker then usually. I like it very much!
The most beautiful tenor voice of operatic history!!!
+Rainer Leiss
absolutely agree with your opinion.
+Rainer Leiss Jussi Bjoerling says hello !
There will never be anothe Pavarotti, that's for sure...
D’accord Marcela!
Facing a new anniversary of the passing of the great Luciano this is a joy to listen to his recordings
Magnificent Pavarotti.
Pavarotti, the greatest. RIP
HE ACTUALLY SINGS BOTH.
Stating after his torment he is now Double content..
Greatest DUO in MUSIC EVER. His Legatto & La Diva high SUSTAINED TRILL at the end.trill
The best of the best!
Beatiful opera. Thans
Perfection
I really enjoyed thi s very much, thank you for posting it.
Happy to be alive! Fantastic! And happy I heard this great tenor live o couple of times. He was fantastic
Fernando Henriquez You are Wright : fantastic!
Bella voce!
EXQUICITO !!!
May 2016.... Just wondering , Luciano Pavarotti gave do many outstanding performances at the MET, Why has there not been anything honoring this great and wonderful man?? Shameful I would say!!
Sella Holding there have good Lord
Divino!
feb 2016 How wonderful to see the MAistro In an operatic role Wish I could have seen him!! Thank You!!
I saw him in Bogotá, but many years later. Always in my heart!
Master!!!
Oh God ,only 66 k views of this magnificent aria, where is the world going. It should be compulsory subject at schools.
Nessuno per cantarla come Pava ,mai
Simplesmente magistral essa performance!
Grazie!
Well, the Met broadcast this performance occasionally and that's how I picked up my copy. However, the Metropolitan opera recently launched the 'Met Player' which is a service that offers a selection of broadcasts from past performances on the Met's stage. This performance is among the selection and you can have a listen to it that way. The quality is much better than this one.
No video of this performance has ever been broadcast and I don't think it was visually recorded unfortunately.
You are a happy man!!!
I purchased both cd & video on ebay several yrs. ago. Check Pioneer 'GOLD EDITION' Plus DECCA LONDON.
The two greatest duo in all MUSIC. Listen to PAVS' LEGATTO AND LA DIVA'S HIGH TRILL AT END. She stated although never having difficulty reaching that note she always felt easier when singing with LUCIANO.
BRAVO MOORHE
King of the high C's.
Heard a little 'gulp' around 1:23 but that was the only little mistake in it, he was in very good voice that evening. All the C#'s in this performance you posted are as perfect as they can possibly get.
When gods walked the earth.....
beutiful aria :)
@Mooorhe And, as you probably know if you've read Schuyler G. Chapin's MUSICAL STAGES, it almost didn't happen then. Chapin, not knowing that Sutherland and Bonynge had been fighting with Mr. Bing for a PURITANI production for years, offered the opera to Beverly Sills for her Met debut. At which point Sutherland and Bonynge threatened to withdraw from their current and future Met commitments if that came to pass. Well, fortunately this production got done, and this really IS great!!! TYVM!
He still sounds great here. Nice for him to be trying this in 1976. He was almost too old to be singing this aria.
Too old? He was 41 and at the absolute height of his vocal powers.
@@willen2416 Could be argued. Maybe a few years earlier I would agree.
I don't know if I was at this particular one I was at the prima for the production
I laugh at the comments that he was too old to sing it-this is vintage Pav-the 70's were the great yrs.for this repertoire-if his voice sounds a bit smaller that's not the case just consider who he's singing next to
Florez is an elegant singer stylistically faultless in this kind of music but his voice is about half the size of Pavsand its tone not as succulent -for size, beauty and taste Pav was beyond compare
I don't care for Florez. I agree with everything you said about Pavarotti. The recording is not the best. Pavarotti's voice seems to go distant towards the conclusion of the aria.
@@valasina2015 FLOREZ is a shabby second to Pavarotti, he is one shrill voice.
simply the best.
He was very hesitant. He committed to do this opera with Sutherland and Bonynge, with the new production, around 1972-3, when he sang Arturo with no problems at all. Three years later he'd sung his first Manrico and Rodolfo (Luisa Miller) and didn't have the same command of the higher passages and extreme high notes.
Henry Moore but still glorious man
A te, o cara, amore talora
Mi guidò furtivo e in pianto;
Or mi guida a te d'accanto
fra la gioia e l'esultar.
Al brillar di sì bell'ora,
Se rammento il mio tormento
Si raddoppia il mio contento,
M'è più caro il palpitar.
provate a criticare questa interpretazione. ....se ne avete il coraggio!
No one can EVER criticize Pavarotti! He was the closest thing to perfection...
+Marcela castaño You are Wright!
giovanni medini non é possibile criticarlo :) lui é quasi perfetto :)
David Savlik ..grazie sono d'accordo!
giovanni medini now is the time to worship
Of course, Pavrotti's version with Sutherland is 'brilliant vocal production'. But I also like the more 'intimate' rendition of Jesus Leon with a smaller orchestra without soprano and choir accompaniment.
I'm looking for the 1973 met performance with boyngne, sutherland, and pavarotti... anyone have this recording?
of what opera? Not this. Maybe Fille Du Regiment?
Christina Rivera The Met production with Pavarotti and Sutherland was premiered in 1976.
Christina Rivera as far as I know there is no DVD from this opera. However, there is a DECCA cd recording from 1973 for I Puritani with a fantastic quartet, Joan Sutherland, Luciano Pavarotti, Piero Cappucilli and Nicolai Ghiaurov. Many critics consider the best recording of this opera. You may buy it at Amazon, I bought my several years ago at Amazon.uk.
Hope this helps.
Both sound great in this performance.
My only problem is the rhythm - Pavarotti takes to many liberties for my personal taste.
And the microphones seem to be a little overdriven.
Jesus Muñoz Está a tono
Pavarotti ❤❤❤
He's 41 here. I don't think I'll ever be able to accept that!
1:22 ¿Gallo o error de la grabación?
gallo
His voice is substantially more weighty than earlier renditions still sings it well though!
Sorry folks, forgot to give you the link to the version of Jesus Leon which I like. Here it is: ruclips.net/video/QIsJgmUfEBI/видео.html
31 years old
+James Frazier 41
+Terry Deane correct ! sorry b 1935

tuo orecchio e disastroso!
The best interpretation of this aria despite the poor technical resources: MIGUEL FLETA. Listen to him.
La piu bella voce di tenor is Jaime Aragall.
disastroso è il tuo commento
Great voice. great tenor, indeed. Maradona was also a great footballer but Pele' was the greatest. Bjoerling is the Pele' among tenors.
Pop dilettante mosquito with his squeaks
Could you tell me your top 3 best tenors?
@@alexj.denton7453 iam not mad on names, like fancy do. Opera is overall, its not only a singers, if singer is ok it doesnt mean that he can turn around an earth. Its a methodic, they are producing a singers. But if singer is good its not only about him, but vocal coachers, methodic. Singer must sing in OPERATIC way in other he is not a singer. Thats why we have a tons of singers in past, but with era of crooks, a mosquito dilettantes like trio band we have a bad singers
@@alexj.denton7453 don't listen to him. He is a mad crazy poor man
Duo grandissimo
