Don't be afraid to get dirty , it is good to mix potted soil with your backyard soil on a ratio of 2:3 and if possible add some peat , this is your anaerobic layer and cap it off with 3 inch sand and that will provide you a nutrient rich substrate, you don't need fancy Aqua soil , if you need ideas visit father fish , I know it seems hard but it creates an eco system

What do think of channel called "Father fish" In his method of kepping planted tank. He uses normal soil with added natural nutritional supplements like compost ,bone Meal, iorn. He uses 2 inch of garden soil on top 2 inch of sand. Fish wastes and dead leaves decompose in side the substrate and helps in plant growth. By adding Decomosing leaves from pond to the tank all living creatures in it Will form an ecology cycle in aquarium which cycle dead plant matter and fish waste. Insted of using aquarium substrate And fertilizer dosing .the plant will grow on an environment that changes aquarium detritus (fish waste, decaying plant matter) to plant nutrients Good lighting, normal enriched Garden soil , sand is used by him For his tanks I am not asking for his channel review. I just want to know about ur Opinion on his methods Do u think it will work
I have not much aware about his channel but yes it may work as you said.. Even all these aquasoil are base of earth soils. Only thing is it is user friendly. Ready to use.. we can use the vermicompost soil and the method which you described.. Both works but the only thing is how easy it is to use… Simple… Always. Experiment yourself. MD fish tank using their ground water and the plants are growing well… But we cannot follow those method because our ground water is not suitable for that… I already mentioned even the branded items never work for everyone… so do some experiments and learn from it… Hope this helps you
I use 3 parts for Ro water and 1part well water. Well water tds 900 and ro tds 40. When I mix in that ratio I get 300 tds. What is ur water source, what is ur tds of ur aquarium. Can is see tds alone or should I see Gh, kh, and all water parameters
