There had been multiple crimes already in recent years, same story, boyfriend takes girlfriend to Taiwan to murder her, then go back HK live on happily forever. This law is really necessary in my point of view, but the politicians made the whole thing political and relate it to China wanting to kidnap people from HK. This is what they fear for themselves. The young people are influenced by them.

I' ve seen a video that a riot try to grab a police's gun. And he got shot by the police. However someone distorted the true and said the teenager got shot for nothing. They edit the video by deleting the first couple of second, so the people only see the picture while the police firing and ignore the fact that the police have no choice at all, because if the potester grab his gun, god know what would happen. I am pretty sure in any country, especially in USA, trying to grab a police's gun will be shot to death. These riots deserve it.

Pushing kids to the front line, burning a man only because he does not agree on the protester, Using a brick to kill a cleaner who try to clean the barricade.....The rioter even threaten to kill the police's family.. If you guys see more news, you can easily realize that it's not only protest any more. This is not justice, this is evil, using democracy as its mask.

    I am a Chinese Singaporean.
I do not wish to comment on Hong Kong politics because I have no knowledge and no right to do so.
Your interviews appear to be objectively conducted and reported compare to some other news agencies.
However, other than the interviews of the ordinary citizens that were too briefed and too few in numbers, it will be good to also interview parties from the other sides, namely the Government, Police, the people who work in the public transport system, etc.
From many other news reports and videos, I can see that many so-called peaceful protesters are damaging - and also set fires upon - government buildings, MTR stations and its facilities, blocking roads, disrupting the normal operation of its airport, attacking police with many types of weapons, and also attack others who express different opinions from them.
Further, accusations about the Police brutality and oppressing the protesters with extreme excessive force, and the rumoured death of many protesters must be substantiated with evidence, lest it can continue passing it as real incidents and it can be prejudiced against the authorities.
Finally, I believe the interviewees ought to be made known about how other nations’ police force handle their own protesters and rioters, especially those police force in the supposedly democratic western world, like the USA, UK, Germany, and France, etc, so that the interviewees can interpret - and appreciate - more accurately the notion of police brutality.

This isn't the BBC or CNN etc. This is a RUclips channel run by civilian volunteers. Those expectations are more appropriate for news organisations that are established with an abundance of resources and networks to gain access to those kinds of sources. AB make short 13 minute videos. It's not Panorama. There are street interviews so it is purely opinion based. Furthermore, knowing about how other countries treat people doesn't mean you shouldn't expect certain things from your own. Just because police may be worse elsewhere in comparison, certain behaviours shouldn't be excused just because it's not as bad as elsewhere. That's just ridiculous. If you are looking for a more in-depth report covering more sources from all sides, I recommend you look at more established and popular news organisations.

      Hong Kong Chinese here
those violence are true claim for sure, but don't forget that the government are refused to hear the huge voice from protester to withdraw the bill since MAY until SEPTEMBER and police outbreak the excessive forces FIRST on 12 JUNE, before that it's still peace and only outbreak some physical conflicts
The fact is after 12 June incident, the bill is still in the pending list while Carrie Lam said "suspend" "bill is dead", it gave no mean to response the 1 demand "withdraw the bill", and protesters keep suffered by the polices' excessive forces, these factors let protesters have no choice but to make the worst scenario happens----occupy the LegCo and add 4 more to let her realise how bad the situation is.
moreover, police forces keep claim that incident as riot and refuse to apologise every excessive force they use, even try to avoid the law by covering their identities and arresting innocents
and why the violence elevated, it's mostly began from July when police start indiscriminate attacking to the crowd indoors, tolerate and even allowing triads attacking innocents, keep misusing riot control weapons, arresting innocents, undercover infiltrated in illegal protests, suspected torture, dehumanising protesters as cockroaches, unreasonable cancelling protect while making legal protests etc
as an advanced city, could those unprofessional and illegal action be tolerated? surely not, and most of the Hong Kong People has no military training for their whole live, and Hong Kong has gifted for having very high level of freedom of protest and speech as well, and they ranked very high compared to other countries' police, they are actually ruin the society more than protester themselves, especially social security.
even though there's quite a lot of evidence that Chinese central government has a hand on it, especially treating MTR and Cathay Pacific in words or proposing sanctions, 50 Cents, CCP-based media fake and biased news, and pro-beijing lawmakers and parties, who have quite a lot of relationships to China liaison office, funded triads to operate pro-beijing marches and flash mobs, especially Junius Ho, one of the most radical pro-bejing lawmakers who made Yuen Long incident.
that's why protest desperately need government to accept those 5 demands, as it suffer too much on those false claims and the structural problem on both police force and government
those violence are more likely an reaction to those incidents and unreasonable claims, and tardiness of response the demands, although it impacts infrastructures and some kind of industry, but I'm sure they deserved that violence, when police can't protect citizens, only vigilances could solves
if you think violence can't solve everything, the reality is no matter violence made or not, pro-beijing stakeholders and government still keep its point or even harder to suppress the huge voice, as they have the dominance of the whole political system and backed by Beijing government.
that's why the quote “It was you who taught me peaceful marches are useless.” has shown in the damaged LegCo
you might think protesters need to make some conversations to the government, sorry, no one believe that, as Carrie Lam has a very bad record on fulfilling promises after agreement created during conversations and making compromises each other, and she's one of the origin for outbreaks umbrella movement, there's no hope to make compromises with her but make compromises by herself to show her sincerity on stopping the protester's madness, she's the only key to stop the rage.
why protesters want American assistance is they need a power to balance the power distribution between Chinese government(incl. Hong Kong gov't) and protester themselves, as they have no hope on Beijing to solve but keep flaming them as rioters or making independence, American has the power to give threats to China to truly protect the "one country two system, highly autonomous, rule by Hong Kong people, unchanged for 50 years" promise, as this is the promise of China to Britain, and even the whole world, and also the real universal suffrage with a truly promotion from population and elect themselves, which is promised in the Basic Law itself
Lastly, I respect your opinion, and you have enough knowledge to analyse the whole situation, but I'd like you to sincerely accept my points, I have much more information than you got, perhaps mediacorp might not give you too much information about this movement, those reason above might be the core idea of whole protest, and give you another view of the protest instead of vandalism and assaulting other-opinion person

Whatever views and decisions you make, you are always right.
      Therefore:
You are right to accept opinion-based reports and not fact-based reports.
You are right to apply only subjective test to all situations in life, and disregard and ignore objectivity in all situations, especially in so-called police brutality.
You are right that, in order to access to “more in-depth reports covering more sources from all sides”, we should look at more established and popular news organisations. Otherwise, we will have to accept whatever news reports from less established and less popular news organisations.

Kristin Wu is right. If you were a police officer, you would not risk such a thing especially as your job at stake. if you had even an inkling of a doubt of that stopping the protest is wrong, you would have quit your job and became a protester instead.
Also I imagine on AsianBoss side, it's risky enough having the protester be interviewed. What's the point of interviewing the police when their action already speak their view. An anonymous interview sounds promising but it's not something many officers would take, assuming AsianBoss would even find one.
I don't think it's a good thing to generalize the entire police force despite all of what I just typed, but for individual opinions it's only worthwhile to get the protesters' side in my opinion.

I remember watching on the NEWS the image of *THAT ONE* police officer who was ambushed by protesters and beaten with a long stick and held in a head-lock. Good *HONEST* police anywhere deserve to feel safe and have the right to know they won't die on duty. zGBz BIoT Yes. One policeman almost got his neck chopped off. The youths in the riots look very similar to the story “Lord
Of the Flies” by William Goldings. Whatever you try to beautify your lawlessness and criminal acts, these are criminal offences, young protesters, what you are doing is to injure your own future. No country will accept you even if you migrate. Not Malaysia, not Taiwan, not Singapore, not Germany, not Australia, not the United States (they are particularly against Asian immigrants who are taking their jobs) and last of all your beloved UK (you must decide which part to go to England, Scotland or Northern Ireland. After Brexit, they might not be one but if you migrate early you might be able to participate in their protests. Chère the Police do not tolerate violence and they use live firearms). Of UK is keen to take you in, they would not only offer six-month BNO instead of full passports which Portugal have to Macau which will allow them to go to any part of the EU, including the UK, until Brexit. And yet not many people in Macau take up the offer. Trust me,’the best place for Hong Kong for Hong Kongers is Hong Kong and ironically, GuangZhou and surroundings because you can continue to speak Cantonese. Hong Kong is an odd man out in terms of Chinese speaking ex-colonies are concerned. In Singapore, they are happy to be able to speak English in first language, Mandarin, Cantonese and Hokkien as a second language and Malay as a third language. In Malaysia, their first language is Malay and the others are at second language level. They can go anywhere they want to. Even Taiwan has a dialect and Mandarin. They can find the best part of China to go to or Singapore or Malaysia. Hong Kongers are funny creatures. You do not like places who welcome you but you rather go to places who despise you. Who would want to take in as citizens modern versions of the Red Guards?

It'd be tough to get an interview with the police, due to their job security and personal safety, but I think that would make this a more balance and complete reporting.
The police, for the most part, are following order from the government, as it is their profession. They have been trained to follow order, so when the government defined certain protesters action has broken the law, it is their professional duty to take action. But, as many of the protesters mentioned, they are now being blame for the abusive of power.
Hong Kong police are also Hong Kong's citizen with ordinary family, and many of them have young children who perhaps have view similar to, or align with the protester's view. in other words, many of them are being caught in the middle between their family and their professional duty. Their view/ their perspective would give this reporting another dimension that is unique, and perhaps, provide some insight that are missing from almost all other reporting.

Although I agree that most of them are there for their jobs, many of them have been recorded to be doing things that far exceed what they're expected of their jobs. Just recently there had been an incident where a man was arrested and dragged into an alleyway to be beaten up by a large group of cops, concrete video evidence showing this. The next day the cops twisted it and said that the police were actually kicking "a yellow object", not a person by any means, which is a very blatant lie. Moving away from the individual level the police force as an institution is also highly flawed, with many of the officers refusing to show their warrant cards when making arrests, nor wearing their ID badges when in uniform. This removes the accountability that is absolutely essential in checking the power of a group that is enforcing the law. So yeah, HKPF is super flawed in its current state.

When we look at these protests we have to remember that as with any big demographic, their views are all over the place. Some are very thoughtful, recalling that the protests began as peaceful rallies that the government attempted to ignore, and that this is the boiling point of Hong Kong's various societal problems and goes way beyond the now-dead extradition bill. Some also recall the swift government response to past instances of civil unrest in the 1960s, and that today's HKP was caught inexperienced and unprepared for this level of discontent.
Others are full of irrational hate and looking for enemies to blame for the very violence that they started, forgetting that all police actions are in fact reactions to events and environments. They talk laws and procedures, but they've lost the moral high ground by calling all police corrupt and screaming "colourful greetings" to their mothers at every confrontation.
Many, especially the younger students who have not learned the nuances of fact-checking and professional journalism, are obviously influenced by social media echo chambers, spewing rumours such as police murdering detainees, with no basis in reality.

I do not agree with what some of the protesters have done (more so because they're sabotaging their own cause), but then if we look at it from another perspective we don't know just what they might have gone through to make the feel as if they've reached that breaking point. The majority are peaceful. I'm a mainlander and I fully support their cause and I hope this wave of democracy will spread to the mainland.

    • @AbsoluteZero6714
      @AbsoluteZero6714 5 лет назад +5

@@canto_v12 If by "remaining two" you're talking about the removal of the term "riots" and universal suffrage, I've got to say that I am supportive of all five demands being addressed. The HK Basic Law says that "Hong Kongers shall govern Hong Kong", but the CCP deliberately twists these words by appointing local officials but CCP sanctioned. It's a very clever use of ambiguity of language.
If they really wanted universal suffrage for Hong Kong, they'd say something like "Hong Kongers elected through universal suffrage in the city shall be responsible for governance." It's this fear of a lack of clarity and the CCP's strategic ambiguity in politics and law that made HK so fearful in the first place. Mainland China has got no rule of law, the Party is the country and can dictate anything according to its will. Since it lacks a religious or at least a humanist framework, there are absolutely no moral or ethical constraints as to what they'll do.
I am aware of the fact that a CCP proposal for HK's political reform was rejected by the pan-democrats a year after the Occupy movement (2015). I believe it was right for the pan-democrats to have rejected the CCP and not compromised because the CCP simply cannot be counted on their word whether towards mainlanders, HK / TW / Macau, or the world. They said they weren't going to militarize the South China Sea but now they're building bases for ships and aircraft on the Spratlys and harassing their Asian neighbors.
You've got to understand that if the US has been a wolf, the CCP is a wolf in sheep's clothing. The latter's far more dangerous. If the CCP become the most powerful country in the world, it'll be an authoritarian world where they'll hold military, political, and economic leverage at unprecedented levels.
I also don't believe universal suffrage would descend into "mob rule". I don't want to sound like an ethnic supremacist, and I am not, but us Chinese on average are an intelligent people capable of coming together and making decisions. If we go back to our own history and culture, Daoism teaches us that we must follow the natural flow of society, to find order within chaos and to not seek excessive control over everything. Even Confucianism, in theory, teaches that a ruler must be benevolent in order to rule, and that his subjects have the right to choose their ruler and oppose tyranny. It's the politicized version of Confucianism practiced in feudal China that emphasized more on the parts about hierarchy and obedience while deliberately not paying attention to the parts that call for the ruler to govern well and for the people to keep tabs on their ruler.
I also believe it would be unfair to characterize these protests as "riots". It would be especially unfair to the majority of the protesters who have been peaceful. I don't know if the especially violent ones should be severely punished and I don't know what and if their punishment should be. Overall, I would like HK to go all the way, and I hope that one day the mainland will have the spirit of the republic revived.

You can't speak for others' circumstances if you weren't there. Canadian riot police showing up to a concert you intentionally chose to go to and had the mental capacity, time, and physical ability to leave. Where a child ending up in an area Hong Kong riot police were at are two entirely different situations. If a protest happened in a shopping center (where the /child/ was sent to buy books), she could have gotten disoriented, lost, or not out of the area in time once she realized what was happening. I don't know if you were a child at your concert, but there are a lot of reasons the police could have taken her to jail that weren't her fault. Simply not being out of an area in time doesn't fault the child and make them deserve jail. Mobs of police and mobs of rioters can impact people's ability to leave an area, even if she wasn't a child. You shouldn't blame a child (especially with an alibi) for what happened to her. She's likely traumatized as is.

Jesse Chan it’s a shame that you fail to understand the essence of the protests, but I would love to further discuss this with you. May I offer a reminder that these protests began peaceful. 2 million marched on the street, however their opinions were simply ignored by the government. May I also remind you of the Umbrella Revolution in 2014 - peaceful sit ins... resulted in the protestors voices being ignored. If a protest were to not have any impact on any person’s lives, what point is there to it? If everyday life went on as normal, then what can the protest possibly achieve? It would not be conveying any message whatsoever. Now, in no way am I justifying violence, I just sincerely hope you can find it in your heart to realise the protestors are real people. In an ideal world, the government would listen to its people after a peaceful, uneventful protest. However this was not the case. Please understand that the protestors are real people whose freedoms are being taken away. They are not saints. They will get angry and upset. After all, it is part of the human condition. I cannot fathom how one could not get upset when their friends are being beaten up by police, who are meant to serve its people, and others committing suicide as they feel like they have no future. And all this is whilst the government continues to ignore the voices of its people.
P.S foreign influence is a pretty good joke haha. You think they’d pay 2 million people to protest on the street? Man I want to know where the money is, because I never got any.

Alright, let's talked about this topic.
First, who started the fights. We must know under Hongkong law, any large scale marches and rallies are must be approved by the Hongkong police department, and under control, otherwise, it would be seen as illegal. Please noticed this law was already there since Hongkong was till under British government. In the beginning, protesters were still under control, however, when the night came they try to break the area that police set up, and police try to push them back to where they should be, that's how the fights start.
So now, who starts the fight? I do believe that the police's job is to control and keep the social system safe and organized when somebody tries to break the system polices were allowed to use some proper violent to control these people who're breaking the rule. And on the other hand, sorry, protesters were never ever given the rights to use any violence, yet, follow the law is what everybody's obligation.
Second, anybody dies? That girl said that the internet said there were 22 people were dead even we have no evidence but we were sure they were sacrificed. Does it sound like some kind of ghost story online? Social networking is super developed nowadays. Unlike P.R.China, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook are super popular in Hongkong, actually, if someone dies, it's impossible to cover nowadays, no matter how the Hongkong government wanted. However, until today, those protesters can't even pull out one specific name from these people who they believed were killed by the Hongkong police. Why? If you were together even teammate you should know their name, right? And since you act like so angry for their death, don't you want to nonce their name to all citizen to show how Hongkong police evil? Yes, they can't, coz once they put up any specific information, it would be so easy to find out the truth. We can easily to find out one people's life only by a single name nowadays. Two days before there were a list was put on the internet that says these people were killed by police, still no name but there were lots of details, however not even one day this list was already proved it's fake because there was so many wrong information. And one dead man found in the sea that those protesters thought they finally find the evidence, but just a moment this dead man's family claim he has no link with any protests actions.
You might also know the girl who got shot on her eye,but you may not know she applicated an injunction for others can't investigate and public her medical report. Why? Doesn't she want to show the citizen how she gets hurt by the police? Of cause she wants, The only reason she did it maybe just because of the medical report shows the truth which is not what she wants to show. Until today all we heard from those protesters just tones of ghost stories that can not be approved. Please remember we are on the ground so just don't keep your head on the clouds, go and find evidence out. Talk of the ghost story those protesters did claim they can saw a human figure shows up in the fire in the photo of that subway station, and then some psychic jump out said that he can feel the spirits there.
Third, violence. I do agree that girl with a mask that she said if you want to turn over a government in a quick way you have to use violence. But now it's come to a question are they really fighters, warriors, or even heroes? Well, let's see what they do for their protests. they blocked the main traffic, affording citizens go strike with them, beating people who against their opinions, break the public utilities. What they actually do is breaking innocence citizens normal life, so what's actually sacrificed is the Hongkong citizens' daily life. But when the police come, instead of fighting against the police, these "warriors" run into people and used innocence citizen as their shield. They changed their outfits and pretend as normal citizens and cry. that is what we see from the video in the subway station. They put on a yellow vest acts as they are the ambulances and shout out of the closed gate. And for all these I said you can also find photos and videos online. Think of that, they called themselves warriors for people said they are fighting for the citizen but what they really doing is against the law, breaking the society, and what is the real evil is after they do all of these they still use people as shield to hide and acting they are innocence, that is really discussed. Did you ever see a hero hiding at the back of people? I do respect to those ones who are really sacrificing themselves, even I might not agree with their opinions. But I do hate that one who is using innocent people and still claiming they are fighting for others.
Forth, police are no longer believable, there is an interesting test, they said that try to put on full gear and go to the police station to shout out the protest slogans, and then change the outfit and go to the protester's group and said support police and sing the P. R. China song then let's see who will beat you. I do think this is a good social test to see who is more dangerous. And then you may find out the truth.
Fifth, actually Hongkong government still following the system that leftover by the old English system, it was never changed since 1997, all the government decision still voted and built by the Hong Kong Legislative Council. Therefore, we should ask why these Legislative Council members who voted by Hongkong citizen did not achieve these protesters' opinions? Should not we doublethink of that does these protesters' voice be representing all Hongkongers' opinion or just their own? And please notice one group of people's opinion never make up a social system.

The trust between police and citizens in general has been completely broken. There were simply too many evidence, such as news livestreams, photos of police turning their noses to people being beaten. For example, on 721 when normal citizens (not just protesters) were beaten up by local gangs in the subway station. Where were the police? There were video evidence of two policemen literally turning their backs on people dressed in white who were beating up random citizens. What's more is that the police only arrived more than 30 minutes after the fights broke out, meanwhile the nearest police station is less than 20 minutes away. Yes, the protesters' opinion may not represent all of Hong Kong. However, in this incident we see how the government may treat you if you oppose to them, and how the systems in the HK Police Force are poorly regulated.
At the end of the day, you may not agree with the protesters. Yet, we must acknowledge what is wrong and what is right, and hold the supposed "protectors of the city" responsible for their overuse of violence.

i disagree with the violence by both protestors and the police because i am not sure how this will help advance the cause (for citizens, getting what they want in the long run, and for policemen, containing the situation). Furthermore, it lays grounds for the PRC government to undertake a heavy intervention if they would want to (i.e. that HK's situation is beyond rescue/out of control). Of course, a military intervention seems unlikely now given that the PRC is embroiled in the trade war with the West and by doing a public display against human rights, it gives them a lesser ground to negotiate with the States... I wish this would stop in HK and the people's needs met without too much violence. Each week I read the papers, it just makes me sad.

I believe it is a wrong decision by the US and the world to stand by idly as the CCP grows to become an increasingly globally ambitious regime that has committed and is continuing to perpetrate numerous abuses of human rights and fundamental freedoms. The CCP seeks to not only confine its oppressive methods to mainland China and greater China, but it wishes to export its system of totalitarian governance and internet / media censorship abroad. The US and the West are no saints, far from it, but in the face of the CCP I am gradually seeing that the US and its allies may be the lesser of two evils. To put it simply, if the US has been a wolf, the CCP (note, CCP, not to be conflated with the Chinese people) is a wolf in sheep's clothing that has managed to charm much of the world. Furthermore, the amount of economic leverage that the world's largest totalitarian regime holds over trade makes many countries afraid to fully acknowledge, stand up to and condemn the CCP. If the CCP becomes a, or THE global hegemon, the world would be an absolutely frightening place that would make Big Brother's dream come true. The CCP already possesses, and is already using some of the world's most advanced surveillance and counter-dissent technologies without challenge by its own population due to brainwashing / fear, whereas the same or similar technologies have resulted in much backlash and even exposure (think Snowden) in Western countries that are still relatively freer when it comes to political and social expression.
I do not agree with the extremists among the HK protesters and I believe that their methods are only sabotaging the cause and disrupting the lives of others. However, if we look at it from another perspective, we don't know just what some of them may have gone through, and maybe they've suffered so much that they don't feel there's any other way but to seek address for their wishes through these violent actions. The core of the movement remains peaceful and the police are monsters. The world needs to wake up to the beast that is the CCP, which stands as an ambitious threatening entity to the present and the future of classical liberal values in our world. Unfortunately, the world as it is cares so much more about monetary benefits over much more important, non-materialistic values that should be defended. Someone like Trump is a businessman at heart who always wants the best deal. If I were him I'd care not so much about striking a trade deal with the CCP than doing everything I can to stop the CCP socially, politically, economically, and militarily.
Democracy as currently practiced is far from what it could be. As flawed as it is, and as susceptible is it can be to its own kinds of abuses, I believe that if we refine it and make it better, it would still be the best realistically achievable political system that at least tries to grant us fundamental freedoms and liberties to the greatest extent possible. It's far better than any of its less freer alternatives, and some people who support totalitarian regimes and say they're in favor of giving up their freedoms have never lived under one.

@@AbsoluteZero6714 I strongly disagree with you when comparing US and China in term of aggressiveness. I don't want to talk about how we feel. Let's be realistic and talk about proof. Just how many war the US created in the 20th and 21st centuary? I can see around 40 of them, and I can easily name a few such as Vietnam, Lybia, Syria, Iran... We even have a list of them on Wikipedia. And how many China has? None. They just have internal conflict between their own race.
Don't get me wrong. China does try to harass neighbour country in south china sea. We Vietnamese expericed that first hand. But that's all.
So as far as the statistic show, the US is far more dangerous to the world peace than China.

@@AbsoluteZero6714 While the CCP is bad, the west hasn't done anything for far worst regimes like the persecution of Chinese minorities groups like Tibetans and Uyghur. I really doubt that HK is the hill that they choose to die on in regards to lifting a finger to intervene.

Another good piece of reporting. While some could argue that many of the protesters are driven by political or ideological differences with the government it's quite evident that the young lady who became emotional at the end was speaking from her heart and not from any desire to push a political agenda. This is not to say that the protesters are not being sincere, because I believe that they are being sincere in their demands. It's just hard to deny the appeal of someone who speaks of their personal pain from their heart. This is what the government needs to sit up and pay attention to. When the government has lost the hearts and minds of the everyday citizens they have truly lost.

@Ray Chan it's painfully evident which side of this issue you are on. At no point did I compare the Hong Kong police with police in the US or anywhere else. If you are trying to put forth an argument you are doing it a disservice by insulting those you might wish to influence. My comment was simply to address the real human emotions displayed by the young lady at the end of the video. If you can't understand plain English you might want to stop commenting in that language. Have a wonderful day.
