Totally, he's got feet on the wall, and it almost looks like he's on rope tension. Then his challenge is holding a gloved hand. The glove they used had grip on the outside while hers was wool... I love Antons content but I would love to consult on these projects to make them more realistic and closer to the movies depiction. 😅
Except for the fact that catching someone who’s falling is going to be near impossible. So if we’re gonna gloss over the hardest part then I think we have liberty to not be completely screen accurate on lesser things as well.
Exactly. They should start with the weight above their heads (not directly - and someone other should drop it). But it was impressive anyway and proven the concept 99.9% unrealistic.
tbh that's a feat you see so often in movies and shows and i never once stopped to think about how incredible of a feat it actually is, it's just part of movie logic lol
@@wolololerthere is a movie called the gaurdian i believe it was loosely based on true people. The instructor had a save where he had to hold onto a women for like 10-20 min an apparently had torn basically ever muscle in his shoulder and arm but he didnt let go. It is relevant to the story, because the student ends up in the same situation, ready to do the same thing but the cable is fraying this time, so the instructor lets go himself. Eitherway adrenaline is a hell of a drug.
I always thought the ability to save yourself or someone with one hand/arm was BS until it happened to me a few years back. I was cleaning out the attic space of a shop for some hours and eventually I stood on a crossbeam that had a piece missing from the side and ended up going through the ceiling rather suddenly. Mid fall I somehow reached out and grabbed a joist automatically. Completely arrested my fall with one hand and found myself dangling in the shop from the roof slowly rotating above 5-6 people who all froze.. Bigger drop below me than I would normally be comfortable jumping from but my rotation was going to put me half over the front counter with no clear landing. It was an easy decision to just drop from there and cut my losses. Managed to stick the landing absorbing everything into my legs and walk away. I wouldn't consider myself a fit person nor am I the lightest but instincts and adrenaline can help. Muscles were a touch tender for a week but all things considered I was happy with that.

@@Amtcboy Excellent! I implore you to go through Antons series on these (for lack of better moniker) "debunking movie" scenes. His most recent on a matrix scene was really hilarious, as was his one prior to that on the video game Brothers. Anton is an exceptional content provider and his take on these scenes is really is quite worthwhile.
In some ways yes but in other major ways the movie scene is probably not even possible. Stallone wasn’t hanging from a bar. He must have had one hell of place to hold on that wall. Plus the catch would almost certainly had pulled him off of any realistic grip on a mountain cliff. Of course there’s no way to reasonably test that. But I wouldn’t say the test is more impressive as a whole considering the movie is likely doing impossible things.
Love the unusual premise, the safety testing, and the final successful achievement! What I really liked even better is the laughter, joking, and camaraderie, such a joy to anticipate and then watch!! Thank you very much, as always! One of my top two favourite channels ! Yay!!! ❤ from Canada
Awesome video Anton. I really like this concept of trying scenes from movies and see if you can replicate them. You should try this with other movies and more guests. Also happy birthday!
They tested number 2 though. And the first part of number 3 is irrelevant. Have you never seen mythbusters? The point is to test if it’s possible or just Hollywood. The conclusion to take away is that it’s plausible. But the initial catch is suspect and dangerous to test. Because obviously Stalone’s character is more buff than these guys and he wouldn’t care if he sustained massive shoulder injuries.
The human body has evolved to preserve its energy and avoid damage from over-exertion so it will be able to perform at maximum strength when a life and death situation comes up. I believe the maximum strength that you can deliberately control is something like just a third of the theoretical maximum force. This trait is much less developed in other apes, which is why chimps and orang utans seem incredibly strong for their size. But in desperate situations, human limbs can perform at a similar strength as well.
When first saw Britt I thought: "How can this guy be a 12x america ninja winner? He's just a regular guy" and then I saw 2:54 and my man is a absolute unit. Britt is like Mumm-Ra, he walks in completly harmless and then boom "wtf, where did this muscles come from?"
Alex Megos in street clothes looks like an average slender young man. When he starts climbing and stressing his muscles, they seem to expand to 3x normal size.
The shoulder squaring was so hard because he hung on the same side as the missing arm (left). In order to square the shoulders, you need to overcome the torque, that he applies to your right shoulder.
Awesome vid as always, this one was pretty damn interesting too. I'm impressed he did that last part without prep, and you being able to square up your shoulders carrying all his weight too. Impressive!
Cool stuff and Happy Birthday! Really liked the climbing up part. Having a harness is realistic, I guess, given that in the movie they climb, too. Using a hook on your foot in order to get up was a brilliant move.
Just noticed that when Stallone catches her initially, he grips on her wrist, not her palm and fingers. Holding someone by the wrist is SO much more solid than palm and fingers! Tho by the closeup shot he's got her by palm and fingers
You are an absolute legend and I love every video you make man. Awesome content please never give up!!! You could be as big as magnus for sure once people realize how great your content really is!!!
Extremely impressive, and hilarious! Yo, how about a Ninja Warrior Team event!? Where you gotta use teamwork to get through obstacles. Kind of like how they do in some military training obstacles
I suggested this! Sort of. I asked if you could make a video where you pull your friend up with one arm like in the movies when they slip off a cliff and you grab their hand right before they go over. Close enough though! Awesome video 😂😂
A lot of movie stuff like that can be debunked just by thinking about physics and biomechanics. You would of course need an actual scene to debunk though not just an idea.

My old man did ironworking. He did one, one armed save at some bridge I believe in Vancouver, one, one armed fail (110 foot drop) at someplace else in BC. The fail, the other guy died of course. He also fell 3x: 32 feet, 33 feet & 51 feet. The 32 took him out for a week, the 33 was a one day rage quit, the 51 was 5-7 months of barely walking/working (I had to help him when his back would lock up) that later led to a 1.8L sized bladder and a permanent colostomy bag for 18 years before the nerve one day healed on its own. He never told me the why of the 51, heck I didn’t know for weeks after other than he came home mega late after work one day (I was stuck outside for 5-7h… he was a single dad). The other two were daydreaming and being in the groove (riveting my uncle said as he saw the 33 foot fall… your old man was in such a groove just bouncing along riveting that he completely forgot about the end of the building, flew off it, hit the ground, rolled, cursed and then jumped into his car and roared off without saying a word). He mentioned most stories only once. The fail twice as he forgot to mention the guy was about to get married, kid on the way and was his best friend at the time.

1972 while in the Navy I was on watch as a lookout on a destroyer. I had to climb down a ~20 foot vertical ladder. The weather was lightly raining. I was moving my hands two rungs at a time. My naked weight was 160+ pounds. As I moved my left hand both feet slipped off their rung and I caught myself with my right hand/arm. In 1969 I was getting into an attic and I was recovering from dislocating my left shoulder. At this time I weighed 150 pounds. I grabbed the trapdoor frame with my right hand and lifted my legs so I was hanging upside down and then pulled myself up into the attic so my head was above the frame to where I could hook my head on the frame and lower my feet to the opposite side of the trapdoor.
