Colossus of Rhodes PROJECT. This project originates from the ideas, the expectations and the hopes of some young professionals coming from various european countries: Greece, Spain, Italy and United Kingdom. The determined aim is very ambitious: to build a contemporary structure dedicated to the Colossus of Rhodes, considering 21st century standards. The purpose of the project is not to propose a copy of the original statue, 40 meters heigh, but to arouse the same emotions that visitors felt more than 2200 years ago........colossusrhodes.com

this is a good idea, constructing this wonder will give +1 sea trade route.
This project will vastly boost Rhodes tourism industry …This is how you boost Greek economy !! Not by killing the market with taxes.

The problem is not only the high taxes here in greece the problem is that we are trying to repay an unpayable ,made by others according to the gteatest economologists of our time ,loan. To repay this loan we have not to just sell our airports/port we have to literally sell our whole country. While Germany takes l loans with 0% cost we take with 10% , equality my ass ...

We are a group of young people from different European countries who want to support Greece at this critical time with our efforts. We worked for years on this project because we believe that it would be a great deal for Rhodes island and for Greece.

Through social media and crowdfunding, the attention this is and can continue getting is too massive to be ignored. Kickstart it, get "packages" like the one you said about carving the name of backers, so people get a bigger motive than just the mere satisfaction of contributing to something spectacular.
Strangers can group up and build a better future, step by step, without even having to ever meet in reality. It's too easy to rebuild what once was great and Greece can again shine in these dark moments. Governments won't and can't do anything, 11 million of people are aware of that fact, it's up to us to change the course of this mess.

+Colossus of Rhodes Incredible work. As a greek i thank you. But because i know my country, i also know tha tit will never ever be built. Bereucracy and corruption, and a general unwillingness for our heritage is to blame. Unless a private company undertakes the project, then it just might work. It sadens me when i see century-old countries build whole museums around nothing, while all the ancient buildings and millenia of history in greece are just ignored and taken for granted.
To those who complain that the reconstructed statue is different from the original one, no one is going to use the same material, build the same height, or adopt the same non-earthquake-resistant structure, and in fact that is a stupid idea to try to copy the old one. Instead, the real objective of the project should be adding new elements to this historical culture in a form that enhances this majestic artifact to a higher level, which is making it into a museum. As an enthusiast of ancient Greek culture, I am totally inspired and firmly supporting the idea.
YES! I'm an Italian Architect and this is a GREAT IDEA for all the mediterranean Area, the ancient light still shines, and if u call many volunteers will come, thanks for that.
As a citizen of the United States, I commemorate this project. It's really awesome to see things like this built in our world today. We have tons of building technologies and skills, and yet we no longer build great wonders like we used to hundreds of years ago.

+Fantomas612 I thought about this, too!! You should really kickstart great projects like this. I mean, the great architects of the anchient world were only able to accomplish what they did because so many people contributed to it! It was one of the biggest flaw of mankind in the past that there was such a heavy imbalance in wealth like in ancient Rome, slavery like in Egypt or in the dark age the Christian church which eploited the people through superstition.. Today most of us are lucky enough to live in a more or less liberated and fairer world in which it wouldn't be possible to do the same thing. UNLESS people from all around the world would contribute to something big VOLUNTARILY! If this right here gained enough recognition, it COULD in fact HAPPEN!! People should realize how much small amounts of money from all around the world can bring about.. Together, we can make history!!!!

This not a Kisckstart-type project. There will be restaurants and other shops in this statue, not speaking about the income the city council will get from increased tourism.

+Colossus of Rhodes Great idea and project. Wrong timing about crowdfunding though considering the bad situation of Greece at the moment. The only hope can be relied in Greek immigrants overseas, some EU funds or cultural insitutions and maybe private investors. As is my favourite of then seven wonders of the ancient world, I really hope to sometime see again the Colossus overseeing the Mandraki harbour causing awe to locals and visitors.
PS: The widnows can be replaced by some bronze tinted glass to match the skin colour.
PS2: Have you done the project in some CAD program already? As an engineer's I'm very interested to see more technical information about the project. Materials, finishes, proposed structure, etc, etc.

Και κατι για τους Ελληνες,δεν αντιλεγω οτι θα ηταν καλο αν πραγματοποιουταν ενα τετοιο εργο.Φανταστειτε ομως ενα αναλογο τεραστιο αγαλμα (μνημειο,οχι mall) του Θεμιστοκλη στη Σαλαμινα ή στον Πειραια,οπου ο ξενος επισκεπτης εισερχομενος στο μεγαλυτερο λιμανι της χερσονησου του Αιμου,θα εβλεπε τον ανθρωπο που απεκρουσε τις ορδες των Περσων και ηταν η αιτια να δωθει η ευκαιρια στην Ανθρωποτητα για να γεννηθουν Ελληνες οπως ο Σωκρατης,ο Πλατων,ο Αριστοτελης και αλλοι...Τιποτα δεν θα ηταν ιδιο στην παγκοσμια Ιστορια..
Δημήτριος Ζ You hit the nail on the head, one of the main thing we're missing these days are cultural investments between nations/groups; the ancients did this really well, the value of creating a cultural consciousness can be equally 'economical': not just pipelines.
+Thanos T I agree somewhat with the barbarians comment, but I think we shouldn't forget that barbarism is a state of mind as well. After all, the demise of the Archipelagos was equally due to the barbaric in-fighting amongst the city-states (Peloponnesian war), the 'barbaric' slaughter of the Romans (Sulla's siege of Athens), the reactionary rule of the Ottomans and etc etc.
Afterall, these populations are in essence related: the Romans built what they had on the Greeks (and Magna Gracians became a part of them), the Ottoman populations were mostly converted native populations (Anatolian Greeks, Lydians, Macedonians) and city-state clans were of only different tribes (Doric, Ionic, etc). Let's kick out any form of barbarism and invest in re-creating what made the Aegean great.

Mε ένα τέτοιο έργο και πάλι, ακόμη και στην εποχή μας, θα μας σεβόντουσαν και οι Τούρκοι και όλος ο κόσμος, όπως στην αρχαία Ελλάδα, που ήταν η χώρα του φωτός και έκλεψαν το φως της. Ένα απ' τα εφτά θαύματα του κόσμου ήταν και έγινε κομμάτια και πουλήθηκε ως υλικό.

Not only is it an impressive structure to behold, but it also holds a notable historic value. If exploited correctly it could also be a very lucrative investment. I urge you to pursue your efforts and make this vision a reality. Άντε και μαζεύουν τα χρήματα (που δεν το κόβω), έχει φανταστεί κανείς πόσα χρόνια θα τους πάρει να μαζέψουν τις υπογραφές που θα τους ζητήσουν οι δημοσιοκηφήνες για να ξεκινήσει η κατασκευή του; Επίσης πέρα απ' το κόστος κατασκευής θα πρέπει να υπολογίσουν και τα χρήματα που θα χρειαστούν για τα λαδώματα.
Εάν καταφέρουν και το φτιάξουν στην σημερινή Ελλάδα, τότε σίγουρα αυτό θα είναι μακράν το μεγαλύτερο θαύμα της ανθρωπότητας.

Έτυχε φέτος να πάω για πρώτη φορα. Και βέβαια μου ήρθε αυτή η απορία οπου και ρώτησα τοπικούς καταστηματάρχες. Οι άνθρωποι μου απάντησαν οτι εδώ και πολλά χρόνια ενδιαφέρθηκαν διάφοροι φορείς απο διάφορα κράτη... Μάλιστα υπήρχε και η ιδέα να συνεισφέρουν και οι Ροδίτες μου είπαν. Μακάρι να προχωρήσει. Θα με κάνει πιο περίφανο Έλληνα. Έχω και άλλο όνειρο βεβαια: Σε επιλεγμένα μέρη στην Ελλάδα με μεγάλη ιστορική σημασία , πάντα στο πνεύμα της αρχαίας Ελλάδας, να υπάρχει κλειστή περιοχή κοντά στο αξιοθέατο οπου όλο το σκηνικό, από κτήρια μέχρι και οι ίδιοι οι άνθρωποι να είναι σε στυλ αρχαίας Ελλάδας. Φανταστείτε τι σημαίνει για έναν τουρίστα (ακόμα και Έλληνα δηλαδή) να ζήσει ώρες ή μέρες, ντυμένος σαν αρχαίος Ελληνας, να διασκεδάσει σαν αρχαίος Έλληνας, να φάει και να κοιμηθεί σαν αρχαίος Έλληνας.... Μακάρι να το ζήσω.

Great idea, but I am afraid it will remain a great idea for quite long time!
this is truly amazing, when i was 12 years old (im 26) i found a book about the seven wonders of the ancient worlds, i read it more than 100 times, i was in love about that histories, and watch this video made my skin crawl. i felt a lot of different emotions, i dont like the pose of the statue, and i want to know who was the artist of that pose, i mean, there's a lot of differents old drawings about the statue, but i didnt see that before, good luck with this project, dont involve the goverment, because greece is having a lot of problems, if one man could jump from the estratosfera (i dont remember this info so good) with red bull, and one guy could buy and collect almost all the fabergé eggs after the world war 2 and give them to russia in a museum, you could find someone to help you with this great idea.
+adrian cordero I agree, looking at the video made my hair on my arms rise. It would be a magnificent feat to what man can accomplish, and a reminder of the glorious ancient Greek history. As for the design, maybe they made it different to with stand earth quakes ,because there are three places of support the legs and the drape of clothing that anchor the statue.I don't know how the ancient one was, maybe only two supports the legs and that's it . I am not history major, so I don't know what the ancient statue looked liked.
Now lean back and watch as the project sinks due to Greek bureaucracy and unwillingness...

Video bellissimo così la musica per il progetto ..?? mi ricorda molto il mitico progetto del Ponte sullo Stretto di Messina che si potrebbe anche fare ma prima tante e tantissime cose da fare in Sicilia. Per tornare a Rodi dove ho trascorso una bellissima vacanza nel settembre 2015 e quindi parlo per aver visto il porto, la città vecchia e tutta l'isola, quante cose sono più urgenti di questo bellissimo progetto, in primis la diffusione del solare PV che salvo pochissime case è INESISTENTE su tutta l'isola mentre è diffuso il solare termico

Πολύ φοβάμαι ότι το μεγαλύτερο εμπόδιο για την πραγματοποιηση αυτού του έργου δεν θα είναι η χρηματοδότηση αλλά η ελληνική γραφειοκρατια...

A new world wonder? It's about time! I would love to see the west exspressing itself agian. Although if it's going to be a museum to Greek art I would prefer the interior to be less modern and culturally devoid.

Δυστυχώς για την σημερινή Ελλάδα αυτά μόνο σαν cgi παρουσιάσεις μπορούν να μείνουν. Με τη νοοτροπία που υπάρχει ούτε την ταμπέλα για το έργο δεν θα προλάβαιναν να σηκώσουν πριν φάνε τα λεφτά δεξιά και αριστερά.
