From SDA's Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ 2013) a charity speed run marathon which aimed to raise money for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. The marathon was a MASSIVE success, with donations reaching $448,423.27.

Released in December 1988, The Adventure of Link follows Link on a side-scrolling quest through Hyrule to place six crystals back in their palaces, and eventually wake the sleeping princess Zelda. Highly criticized as being too different from the first Zelda, The Adventure of Link introduced some elements that would be seen in many later Zelda games such as towns and magic, but other things never seen again such as experience points and 1 ups. For those who stumble across these videos, a speed run is a video of a person or persons, completing a game as fast as possible using any means possible. This can include glitches, abusing in-game mechanics and skipping items or even playing events out of sequence.

The guy on the left is one of my favorite commentators on these videos. I wish he was in all the AGDQ videos.

LOVE IT! This was one of those games I used to pick up as a kid (which was around the time it was released in the US) as a "beat it in 3 hours weekend activity". I used a lot of the tricks that were used in here (like palace XP gaming, jackhammer, and manipulating Knuckles AI to avoid the whole "sword on shield" back and forth, so it was really fun to watch it in action by a master. Definitely learned a few new tricks, and I loved watching that insane candle-less hammer run!

This might be random, but as I was falling asleep to this (I watch these at night till I fall asleep, I love these runs) I noticed that if you look at the left side of the right camera capture of all the guys, when you squint your eyes you can see a face! Try it, the guys head makes a curly mustache, the painting the eyes, and the angle of the wall makes a nose, trippy!

My compliments to a great player who did a masterful job beating this great game.
I actually learned from watching this a better way to manage my level ups. It works. I replayed this game and found that his way was much better than mine.
Yeah that's what im doing too, but sadly, most human beings don't have the attention span to just watch something.

Feasel has a very relaxing voice
Man, I really enjoy the commentary on the technical side of speed running such as the game logic that makes faster times or why crazy tricks work the way they do. Thanks for all the videos and the marathon drive. Very cool stuff.

i remember this game being hard and going over to friend's houses and beating the last level for them because they didn't believe I could do it. I know this game gets a lot of hate, but I have fond nostalgic memories of it.

This is such an underrated run! Great run of a very difficult game using some super-smart tactics and glitching by a fantastic runner (Feasel). Also loved the commentary and found it very helpful. Good job, Feasel--beat the WR next time!

I owned this game, gold cartridge and all, when I was a kid...and couldn't get ANYwhere. So to see this game so utterly OWNED is SO fascinating to me.

Blueglass is in almost all of these videos. It's like, if there's a lull in action in the run, I at least have a Where's Waldo puzzle on the side.

Nice Speedrun. Battle of Olympus is also a nice Speedrun Title. Pretty Hard to make that game done in a fast time.
My cartridge was bugged when I was a kid. Always started with the hammer, so it wouldn't let me complete that palace and in turn not get in the last palace.
Just a friendly tip. You guys should read the description before posting the run start time. I did that last time and felt like an idiot after noticing the run start time was already in the description. Lol

I thought you could block the lizard maces using the Reflect spell.
You are correct! I just tried it to make sure, it blocks maces, fire balls and I think any projectile. In fact, when those pesky enemies are throwing rocks at you behind the fence, you cannot block those without reflect as well.
The glitch is at the end of the run... around the 1:20:00 mark

this game wouldnt be so bad if it werent for the lives limit. you can work around it with the "up+A" but still... we were only kids, and more importantly, without internet.

I think AGDQ is great and it's got some great people involved... but man. Looking at the couch and crowd behind the runner is always the most depressing thing.

I am new to this... so these guys collect donations for various charities, i.e. cancer, save the animals, etc correct? How much of those proceeds actually go to such charities, just out of curiosity? Do these guys keep a portion for their time to practice?
You're correct. idk how much goes to them, and how much to the charity, but if they make ANY money off of it, I'd be surprised. To my knowledge, everyone at these events are volunteers, and the participants pay to be apart of it.

Holy shit this game is hard. Haven't seen the run yet, but when I played in my 3DS I took a very long time to beat this (guess I'm kind of a noob, but still beat it, and the Dark Link last fight probably took a quarter of my fucking time because it is almost impossible)
