I found this at a grocery store in Oregon for $7.99. I laughed, thinking that was an outrageous price for such a silly device. Then I happily paid for it and have been playing with it ever since. It does a great job of attracting birds and they will come and watch you and study you as you make sounds with it.
My daughter noticed that I like to try and imitate birds that whistle but I couldn't manage to do the ones that chirp. She gave me this Audubon Bird call for my birthday last week and I love it!
I've had mine for 8 years and it's one of my favorite toys too! Sometimes squirrels are very curious about the sound too. No technique is really required, some animals are just really curious and will come near to see what's making the noise...
I have to say, I love my bird caller! It absolutely works and it’s amazing to see how many birds come to check out who’s making that sound. Thanks for sharing!
I got one for Christmas as a stocking stuffer. Whenever I go out on hikes and stuff with my husband (he's the one who loves all that), I always bring this. It's almost like the birds will follow you through the woods singing along. It's quite fun, I highly recommend. In the spring and fall, I'll put birdseed out and just sit on my back porch and play with this thing. Birds come up and look at me, and chirp back. I try my best to replicate their sounds with it. You want to get a birds attention? Well, it's this and bread, lol
when I was about 5 years old my father bought one of these and was very excited about it. while he was in the shower I took it out of the drawer and took out the capsule with spare resin. for some reason I decided to push on it to test if it would break, and sure enough, it broke and the powdered resin was lost. I felt sooooo bad about it. I'm 32 now and I just saw this device again for the first time, on a woodworking website. WOW!!! can't wait to receive and try it out!
ive had one of these for awhile now (couple years i think),.....it gets better the more you use it. at first it was a bit sticking....but now flows very well
I own one of those Audubon bird caller, it's an outstanding little device. It was given to me as a gift. It's absolutely the best gift that I have ever received. Outstanding! Frankie T, bronx.
Hi and thanks for the comment. With a bit of practise, certain sounds can be emulated. But not every specific call of every bird. Where are you located?
Hi Dana, thanks for the comment - I will keep that feedback for now. How exactly would such a video look like? Just the recordings of birds themselves? Let me know :)
@@RathwulvenBushcraft yeah sure, have a motion scene of like a forest with water involved, or water falls, birds in the picture a bit, something with the look of serenity.. idk lol just use your style create your own techniques

Thanks for your comment and first of all sorry for my late reply, I had an accident (see community posts on the channel). Did you already get one yourself? How do you like it?
Hi, I've got one. Had it 30 years and it's been great! However I've just given it a wash and now the chirps gone! What sort of resin and where can I get some?
Hi Phil, thanks for your comment. Donald has a point with the cornstarch, but it poses issues when absorbing moisture. I haven't tried violin resin but I guess this is the better choice. Tree sap should not be used under any circumstance as both sap or resin will just stick and inhibit the movement. Hope that helps, otherwise you might want to ask your trusted outdoor shop - I know that dealers can get resin caps from the manufacturer.
It's my understanding that you can use the same as for a violin, a couple of bucks in a music store for a little block. You would just have to scrape some fine flakes off with a sharp knife and drop it in there? I still have some of the rosin dust that came with it 8 years ago!
Hey Andy. I put a link in the video description to the Audubon manufacturer. There you should be able to obtain dealer contacts in order to find a seller in your area. :-)
If a guy had one of these and took me on a picnic then a bird sighting/mushroom hunt I’d be a happy girl :) I was also homecoming queen for my 5A high school so I know all sorts of people enjoy birds and things of the sort! ❤️❤️❤️
Could be, there was some misunderstanding between me and the Audubon society: I assumed, due to the information I got, that they produce those things themselves. Seems as if they just share the name but are not associated.
Ja das Teil ist der Hammer. Kann es nur empfehlen. Grüße runter in den Süden und an die Berge, ist schon wieder ewig her dass ich gekraxelt bin. LG Ralf
To subdivisions and open door one car garages everywhere (hair does not turn greasy): Do you think those are my values? Whether a bird... is what pokes holes in a parrot green bean bag chair in the office down the hall, spilling its beans everywhere? That's not going to be relevant to what millions of birds face in their own lives as problematic that we need to address on a first come bird feeder basis over eternity.
Just a pinheads worth. Dip the tip of a sharp knife in the resin and gather a little of the tip then tap it in between the metal and the wooden casing.

Hi Jason, thanks for your comment. I did not lure in any squirrels so far, weirdly enough. They only seem to go for the rations over here haha.

Hey Frankie - couldn’t agree more. Thanks for your comment!
This is a very cool little caller, works a lot different than I expected it would. I seen this at a garage sale but didn't get to buy it back then.
That’s a pity, but luckily they are still for sale these days. :-)
My favorite key chain. Don’t know if I’ve attracted too many birds with it but it definitely annoys my wife so worth it.
Hahaha well just watch out for slippers being thrown, head trauma is a serious injury. ;-)
What is the red pill thing?
That is a pill casing containing a lubricant for the actual device. From time to time that needs to be maintained.
Thanks. I got one of these without the packaging and couldn't figure out what the hell it was. Your video made it all clear for me.
I have one of these, but NOBODY on the internet seems to know if it mimics any _specific_ bird. does it?

It contains a lubricant for the caller. :-)

Maybe try cornstarch or get some for a violin
Idk where you are but you can find some tree sap

Add talcum powder to it regularly!
As in the one used for violins?
Where can I buy it?

In the US, Audubon societies view calling birds in as potentially unethical, for the reasons stated in the previous replies.
This is hilarious. Love it!
Yeah a nice little gadget indeed!

Maybe one day that thing can lure in a pair of hair cutting scissors ✂
These things are great for calling small birds into shotgun range or if you hunt by falconry.
Thanks for that remark, never did that type of hunting myself. :)
