Little Brother was like the last hiphop group that tried to bring hiphop back to it's roots. I will forever respect them for that and they will forever be one of my favorite hiphop groups of all time...
Incredible beat.. haven't heard this in awhile.. glad Ralph McDaniels played it on video music box 8-27-23 the beat is Incredibly Dope. I could just listen to the beat alone and vibe.. lyrics are hot too tho..
They got me in trouble in 3rd grade lmao. We had free time on the computer and I didn't know googling "The Minstrel Show" was a crime in school. She reacted like I searched up "big black booty thunder clapping " or "Buffie The Body" something wild like that. I tried to explain to my teacher that it was an album but she wasn't having that. Dad almost whooped my ass but he looked it up and saw the album and was "oh". He went out and bought it for me too. Good times. Good times.
The Drake-Kendrick beef leading people to discover Little Brother is not what I expected lol. To all y'all hearing them for the first time, you have A LOT of good music to look forward to!
This is one of my favorite songs ever, like period 😍😍😍!! I was at an industry party here in Atlanta and the DJ played this song out of nowhere! I went up to him and hugged him at his booth. All the hip hop heads was surrounding the booth super lit. Definitely was a moment. 😍😍😍😍
i love this story. Hip hop was my life then people stopped doing it for the love of the art. the women aren’t into it anymore. they Barely like rap anymore.
Joey Diaz Oh hey lol, I love waking up to hip hop especially with beats this beautiful. They're *perfect* songs to wake up to. My favorite part of the day is when it's so early its still dark out. Between that darkness and the sunrise, is the best part of the day. I think it's called twilight? I just asked my bf, but he wasn't sure either. I had to train myself to get up at 5am. I've always hated the morning. But I grew to love being up early, listening to music and walking around outside looking up at stars and the moon that's still there. Even today (on Sundays) I'm up by 6 and at the *very* latest 6:30-7am. Now I'm rambling.. ok bug u later-
2004 I was visiting my girl at Wake Forest University and saw their flyers around campus...we went to their show in Durham and they killed it...glad to see their success...9th, Phonte, and Pooh are all some of my favorite artists to this day.
I remember bumping this album driving around Hampton University campus in 2003. I was so proud of them for getting their break as I had been fans of them since the Listening. Here I am in my early 40s and still rep Little Brother hard. Thanks to Pooh, 9th and Tay for keeping it truthful
In all fairness, The Minstrel Show was never really underrated as it was critically acclaimed throughout various hiphop circles. I'd say it was more 'unappreciated' on a mainstream tip, if anything. But for music of this caliber, that's expected.
This SHIT SOUNDS SOOOOO GOOD. I fucking love hip-hop man. I can't even be it into words. I remember this coming out during my junior year of college. Still sounds good. That's when you know real hip hop music is TIMELESS.
Funny enough…I actually saw this on BET late night one day before traveling. I spent the whole time waiting for the video to close out so I could see who it was cause I missed the opening. I would up asleep right after and when I woke up I was a changed man. Revolution was brewing in my soul and these dudes were the instigators. Needless to say I wasn’t ready because while I was determined to look the up I didn’t because I forgot who it was. But one fateful day I heard it again and having been proved worthy of thier music I wrote it down and at lunch transported myself to the nearest record store in DC and bought ‘the Minstrel Show’. Revolution sparked and mission accomplished….
Minstrel Show, the name of the album, was a blackface show back in the day. Check out the posters at 0:02. That's probly why BET chose not to air this video
They very well could have used that excuse but, they didn't, BET said it was too intelligent for their viewers (wtf). The whole minstrel show concept was LB's way of showing what had become of hip hop and r&b; fast forward to the present and that message is even more truthful.
This is the hip hop I love. The essence if you will. That shit that hits you in your soul. I know there's people out there still holding it down and making the real but I'm losing touch. All I hear is the commercial and it depresses me. The Cross Over done happened. Just my perception as part of the old school though.
@@RichardY-yd4xbI would get little exposure here and there growing up like their song on NBA 2K6, but really got into them in 2012 and been rocking ever since.
bumping this since I was 14 I'm 25 now still playing this...this is what real hip hop sounds like....I'm tired of these new rappers with their mumble rap and their trap rap bullshit .....
Little Brother was so talented along with Joe Scudda and I like the way he brought Hip Hop and R & B and also Reggae together with a blend of Solid Golden Oldies. The ladies are so beautiful and amazingly incredible in all of your ways. We will do whatever it takes to make all of your dreams come true. This was one of my favorite songs of all times and I need to hear this song more often.
