I think its worth mentioning since you haven't said it. Another reason Zerg can build a base far away from the main (other than nydus canal) is that a Hatchery can build ANY unit. I'm sure protoss and terran would do the same if their command centers could build marines // dragoons. The fact that Hatcheries can build military units enables the building itself to reinforce itself. It also gives the ability to flank easier too. (And then there are all the other things you mentioned too like defendable position). But things like Lurkers, you don't need to transfer them across the map since you can literally just make them at the base.

Hey, Falcon Paladin. I made a comment a few months ago about you casting "The Greatest Brood War Match Ever" between Saviour and Firebathero. It is an hour long game and it's on youtube if you search for it but the resolution is poor. Anyway, it's an amazing game that certainly lives up to the billing. I would love to see you cast it if you could.
I nostalgically remember seeing Archon for the first time, this swirling sphere of energy, with a dark shape in the middle, and thinking _Wow, that's almost exactly how i picture the Balrog._ o.0
Shift + Tab changes the colors of players. It can help when it is Brown and it's not to easy to spot it on the mini map. Sometimes it doesn't work correctly and turns everything into red, but it's worth to try from time time. Especially when there are teams like 2v2 or 3v3.

one note about the opening, Jaedong did an overpool into 2 expansions which is like THE standard PvZ opening. Also you comment about the difference in supply but actually Protoss usually always starts off ahead in supply and maintains that for most of the game but Zerg always just tries to stay relatively close in supply because they can replenish far faster so even if they lose 20 supply in a fight but protoss loses like 10, in the time that Zerg replenishes their 20 supply Protoss probably has not made their 10 supply back, so being behind isn't too bad, base count differences matter much more
I'm surprised there hasn't been more lurkers vs that exclusively melee combo of zealots/archons/dts. To be honest I think JaeDong realized he was pretty far ahead and just had a little fun with guardians and even devourers.
Nice game. It would be really helpful if you don't stay zoomed in to extents that an archon fills half the screen (exaggerating ;)) for extended periods. Helps to zoom in on small clumps but then please zoom out to at least normal distance again soon :-)
Hey Falcon could you try adding extra time at the end of the video. I always see the length and know what's going to happen. Like I know that the 9 pool is going to fail because it's a 30 minute video, it ruins some of the excitement. Maybe you could make all the videos an hour with some amount of nothing or royalty free music or even your podcast, or you could do sneaky combined videos? On another note your casting is getting better bit by bit, it's really impressive that you do both the commenting and observing at the same time. Keep it up :)
You know the 9-pool is going to fail because I'd never cast a game that is a successful 9-pool and that's it. :) I hear you about extra time, and I do sneak in some two-fer games to try and help with that. :)
Love your work Falcon. I got to appreciate you even more after 1) I watched a cast where the commentator talked too fast and 2) after I watched a game between two Filipinos (I'm from the Philippines) where the commentary was just BAD.
How can you be into this game enough to look up perfectman's pro career and cast a game, but not know the difference between a 6 pool or 8 pool (which arent even a thing) and a fairly standard overpool?
I don't get why he quit? was he out of money.. He won every engagement there was the entire game... shows you how broken the game really is tho... You just have to pray u can out expand and run protoss out of gas, but more times than not they just run right over you.. the game is not balanced, but you get savants who make it work because they somehow manage to outplay the opponent... but you can tell zerg can't win any engagements.. Dark swarm is useless.. And nothing zerg has can beat the combo of archons/storms/zealots/reavers.. honestly.. what beats that?? Tell me please. He won by losing every engagement throughout the game rofl.
Yes, he was resource-starved at that point. He played his engagements really well, his composition was good, but he didn't do any proper harassment, something you're really obligated to do when playing against Zerg. Jaedong was two mining bases ahead most of the time, so even with bad trades he managed to keep up. If you were to go back and see some other PvZ games, you'd probably see that most games where Protoss won are those where harassment and/or base denial took place.
@@frothfrenzy yeah but the point for me is that protoss wins every engagement... He could have won that game if he just kept attacking into his bases.. Most games you just see protoss steam roll over the zerg..
Because of the casting style we don't see what's going on in Zerg bases, but I guess there are two considerations here: 1. Jaedong always went for a base counter-attack whenever he saw he was about to lose a base. This way he avoids a relatively slow Protoss composition and preserves the resource edge so he could still afford to make bad trades in the future, 2. If Protoss puts himself in a position where he can't escape easily, losing his whole army hurts much more than when the same happens to a Zerg or a Terran. In fact in most games where Protoss loses, the defeat spiral begins the moment a Zerg first defeats his main army. The numbers at the end paint a good picture of this - Jaedong mined almost 20k more resources than PerfectMan. A fully macroed Zerg is just so very difficult to deal with.

So maybe for a tier one player they can manage to lose every engagement and still win by out playing, macroing, out expanding etc... but in a game where you will lose every engagement is kind of a disadvantage. .. i mean literally Jaedong is the best, he didn't even win ONE fight. Yeah, he is - often he wins games by outmacroing the opponent. This is not so much as an imbalance, but rather the meta which has to be played in a very specific way for the Protoss to win in a PvZ. This is why even a little harassment can do lots to set back the Zerg just enough so he can't keep up. Even though PerfectMan was winning battles, Jaedong simply rebuilt the army and swamped the Protoss again and again, reducing its army size every time. Admittedly, I believe there was a window for PerfectMan to deal some serious damage - 16:00 - if only he sent a part of the army into the lower right. Instead he was roaming the mid for a while and then attacked a base where most Zerg were at. He was pushed back at this point and supply counts have equalized. Jaedong put some effort into containing the Protoss from expanding - note how he was sending groups of zerglings to the lower left several times. If PerfectMan had done the same to the lower right - say a shuttle with high templar + storm once or twice, it would've won him the game, as it was down to the wire already. Instead, Jaedong had extra resources to spare, and PerfectMan was left without mining expansions. He made great trades, but ultimately didn't contain the Zerg, which is pretty much the best way to deal with them.
