Oh! man! I've been kinda stuck with "Long way from home" from Mr. Hekselman lately and "La Distancia" from Ignis Trio. I do use 13 gauge strings on a neck through solid body guitar and it has never gone out of tune and the string vibration makes almost impossible for you to get a bad resonating sound even when noodling. I do have 11 gauge flat jazz swing Thomastik on a 72 custom Squier tele having the original barrel saddles replaced by separate regular ones and it gives you that sweet tone but most importantly it forces you to play in a jazzy setting because trying to play other styles with it does not make it really. It wants to stay jazzy, mellow, and somewhat dark. With some compression it sits even better on the bebop realm and without it you can get more dynamics, kinda reminding some bluesy stuff. I did put 10 gauge regular strings on a Sire LC 335 but I haven't spent quality time with that to reach any conclusions yet. Just experimenting with different gauges to see how it feels and perform. Using lighter gauges forces you to play with a lighter touch if you don't want to mess with the clarity of your sound but nowadays I'm not so convinced it sounds thinner since the signal may likely go through some DSP and it makes harder to distinguish that, unless you're leaning more on the acoustics. Finally I am using 10 gauge strings on a strato with alnico5 single pickup on the neck and it may sound jazzy to some extend but you need to tweak things around a bit more. Planning to put some 9s on it just to continue making more comparisons.

Long Way From Home is a beautiful tune! I've always found that I can get a good sound out of any gauge of strings (adjusting my touch of course) but I prefer the stiffer platform of 13's. Currently I'm really enjoying these custom gauge daddarios but who knows, maybe I'll end up back on the extra thick ones in a few months.

Tough call. Through my speakers, I could hear a slight difference, but it was very slight. For me, it all comes down to what inspires me, what makes me more excited to pick up the guitar, balanced out by what I can afford of course. ;-) So many of the players I admire play 9;s, but try as I might, I can't stand them. It doesn't feel "right". I've had super expensive guitars that felt like I was fighting every time I picked them up, and some cheap, technically "lesser" guitars that, for reasons unknown, got my juices going every time. There's only one rule: Do what you dig.

Whole heartedly agree! I thought at first the difference was too subtle to be of note but was surprised that my fiance could hear the same difference just through my macbook speakers. The difference however is nothing that you couldn't get from a slight eq tweak but it was a fun little experiment to try!

Guess B thin strings? I only heard a very slight difference on single notes. edit i was wrong lol. The difference might be more noticeable live. Im listening on crap headphones on a phone.

Even through nice headphones the difference is incredibly subtle! Thanks for playing along!

40 dollars for strings??? How would anyone afford that more people play jazz than listen to it 😂

I've heard that they do last longer but $40 is a pretty big gamble!
