Holy sht that right clicking on Position and clicking "Add Key" was the best freaking advice, I used to drop down and search every child one after another that I wanted to animate before this. Freaking saves like probably a lot of time
@@kingbling7571 Thank you for the reply. I see no option to Add Key when I RMB in the Inspector Window. (crickets) UNTIL I press the auto keyframe button. I was like a monkey on a typewriter trying to figure that out. =[
BTW, when animating if you think that the animation is not looping perfectly or slows down a bit at the end making it uneven then you can select all extreme left and right keys then set them to "Flat" instead of "Clamped Auto" which is the default value.
As a non-photoshop user, I had to Google the difference between PSD and PSB, initially thinking one was just a typo. TIL: They're basically the same, whereas B stands for Big, and supports filesizes greater than 2GB. Nice video! Showing your workflow and shortcuts definitely help highlight areas where I can be more efficient in. Good stuff
Wow Taro. Thank you for the tutorial. I'm in the middle of deciding to make my strategy game 2D with Sprites or Animation Rig or 3D. This is such a cool and simple process, I think I'll make it 2D with Animation Rig.
1:33 even if you reduce the size of the sprites by raising the pixel per unit, it doesnt effect their memory space, right? They will still take a big portion of the memory
This tutorial is great to get a taste of it and I kind of enjoyed it my only complain is that the Example file is not that great but it is enough to test things xD
Awesome video, I'll definitely try this on my next project. By the way, are there any assets to sell with 2D bones animation (like for running, attacking, dying, etc) so I can hook my own sprites? I tried to look for it but I can only find 3D animation - I'm asking because I probably there is an animator somewhere with much better skills than me that can do a better job.
You know, I've never once looked for 2D animations... Strange. But let me just say: animating with 2d IK is VERY easy! I bet if you jump in you'll agree. What I've done in the past is find a nice running animation, record it and split it into frames, then import them into Unity. Stack them up and then just move the IK targets to match every 5th or so frame (don't do every frame, let unity interpolate for a smoother result). This is actually a great video idea! EDIT: I say it's easy because you only have to worry about the 4 IK targets for the most part... You can add additional flare to it by adjusting the head rotation etc.
I really hope you see and respond to this. If I create a Transparent Render of a super realistic 3D model, but affix the bone structure as outlined in this video, even if it is a single model, it will have these kind of mobility effects?!?! Or do I need to doa transparent render of the "head", "arms", etc.?
Hi! Thanks for the video, very usefull, short, and understandable! I'd like to make a little remark and ask a question: 1. This PSD to PSB converter ruined id of layers somehow so i couldn't use sorting by units (using Affinity-> PSD then PSD to PSB in photoshop solved the problem) 2. Is there any way to add new sprites ( in case I draw a pair of new units) for the whole system and bones we've set up?
1. I saw someone comment elsewhere that you can just change the file extension name from PSD to PSB and it will trick that package to work well 2. i'd like to know to!!
So when I click away from my Avatar PSB, I can't get back into "Units import Settings (PSD Importer)" in the Inspector. It did come up when I first imported it, but is not any longer. Once I click away clicking in my Avatar PSB in the Hierarchy only shows me "Avatar PSB" in the Inspector, with only a Transform in it. What am I doing wrong?
Bro can't we give skeletal to the PNG format characters because in inspector window Sprite editor is not visible could u plz make a video on PNG format characters.
Hey, Rigging animation is works good with Pixel Art Graphic ? I tried to do, but it was sucks... or there are some technics for this (exception of drawing every frame)
I know this video is one year old but if you could give me a little help I'd be eternally grateful. I have a 2d character I made in Gimp (don't have Photoshop) and I tried both renaming the psd file to psb and using the psd to psb converter link you provided. My problem lies with Unity. Apparently it moves the position of all my layers to x 0 and y 0, disregarding the layer size, grouping up everything together and placing layers on top of each other on the lower-left corner of the sprite instead of having the limbs, etc, properly positioned. Any idea?
Has anyone done this with a top down 2d game? I see this technique a lot for games at the side perspective like platformers, but top down is a little different in terms of perspective and how the body parts move. I just really hate making sprite sheets lol so curious if this could work... lol.
These videos are amazing and have helped me so much (beginner here) I do have one problem though: I am making my player movement script and it’s all fine apart from there not being a sprite renderer available for the unit as a whole in the prefab asset file. This means when I go to programme the flipX command when running backwards nothing happens, does anyone happen to know a good way to solve / workaround this? :)
The workaround for it would be to simply rotate the player instead of flipping it's sprite. This will also cause all of its child objects to also rotate.
I love the violent clicking of the keyboard keys when you type. All thay anger of working on making games going out on those keys
hehe lol

That's an awesome tip!
this is the only comprehensive and simplest tutorial I've found for importing and rigging 2D characters into Unity. it's ridiculous

i followed a similar tutorial from someone else a while back where it took about 30 mins what you do (better) in 7. Great job!
Thanks! Glad you liked it.
I've been using Unity since 2016 and I didn't know this! Thank you!!
Dude, your videos are hidden gem. Thanks for videos!
Thanks mate ❤️
I agree you explained everything so nice. This information is scattered along the web and arn't explained so thero.
Thank you for this great resource.

Every vid you make is a gem! Thank you :)
Can’t wait to get my gaming computer soon so I can use unity again thanks for the video
This is pretty well done and explained. Thanks and congratulations.
You are the Best! 💪💪
Such an awesome tutorial! This helped me out ALOT!
I'm glad it helped 😊
Man, you are new Brackey! I regret I didn't know this before!
Neat and compact tutorial! :)
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for!!!! Thank you from the depths of my soul.😭
You're incredible.
your videos are amazing, please keep posting
I will keep posting, just for you Deviken!
This was a great tutorial, really good information thank you so much!
Awesome videos, I have tried same kind of animations and also learned.
Hey wait can you keyframe the sprite swapping? Like stack a series of mouths for lip sync? This is an awesome video btw!
You absolutely could! I don't show that in my next video, but I should certainly mention it. Great idea 💡
Ur channel is awesome keep it up :)

wow your video so nice. I learned a lot thanks~
awesome
Did you create these characters? If yes, I would love to see how it was the character creation in photoshop. I love the art style!
Since this doesn’t use Sprite Renderer, what is the best way to flip their x axis when moving horizontally? Negative scale?

can you tell me a tutorial on how to draw in the same style?

the psb download is of another tutorial.. it is a skeleton
The one I used in the video is a paid asset, so I made a test psb with the same bone structure so you can follow along :)
