  • In this video we explore how to create percussive sounds with Labyrinth and use it as a flexible drum machine.
First we separate the signal paths of Labyrinth - patching the NOISE directly into the VCF - and decouple the envelope generators so that EG2 is only triggered by SEQ 2. Using the sine wave VCO and EG1 we can create a wide range of kick drum sounds while the NOISE generator and band-pass VCF can create brash hi-hats. Using the generative control voltages of Labyrinth’s sequencer and CORRUPT control we can introduce timbral changes to our drum machine rhythm which evolve over time, while turning CORRUPT all the way up creates random rhythms. We also look at using the BIT SHIFT controls to rotate rhythms against each other and BUFFER to save snapshots.

Intelligent combination of west coast synthesis with two more advanced Turing machines. I like it! Putting it on my wishlist.

The most inspirational instrument this decade. Can’t wait for mine to arrive tomorrow and join my 2 DFAM, M32, SH and SV

Just like the DFAM the short sequencers makes them musically limited. Great sound, but mostly for minimal techno and noodling. A bit annoying. I’d much rather have a DFAM2 with an advanced digital sequencer with memory/song mode. That would be killer.

Really nice. However, like the DFAM, having only 8 sequence slots sounds repetitive (despite the randomization). This makes it difficult to use these instrument for actual performances rather than quick demo sessions.
