  • We welcomed founder of I Can & I Am and inspirational educational speaker, James Shone, to St Andrew’s on Wednesday, as part of Children’s Mental Health Week. James’s charity passionately looks to inspire confidence in young people and to help them maintain good mental health and positive wellbeing. Through James’s own story, he helps children understand how best to respond to set backs, build resilience and confidence, and inflate their “balloons of self-belief”.
After James’s talk and workshops with Year 8, our RIDE Committee played football and attended lessons with blindfolds, and our teachers adjusted their lessons to accommodate our (temporary) visually impaired pupils.
Children's Mental Health Week is a mental health awareness week that empowers, equips and gives a voice to all children and young people in the UK. Aside from the RIDE Committee, St Andrew’s is proud to have five other pupil-led committees - School Council, Charities, Mind Your Heads, Eco and Food - who regularly meet each term. As Form Tutor and Mental Health Lead, Haig Howard, said: “The voice of the children is heard loud and clear at St Andrew’s - long may it continue!”
